Cape Cod Canal Striper Fishing: May 2024 Report
A look back at what lures worked for me during May 2024. This report isn't about the quantity or size of the fish I caught or the spots along the Canal where I caught them... Instead, I focus on what lures, sizes, profiles and colors worked for me during May.
May 2024 was a good month and I found swimmers, jigs and top water lures all led to catching!

How often or douse the Magic swimmers in the 228 size.?I lug one or two around in my bag but never really use them.Tried it acouple times but what a beast of a lure to cast.

I use the big Magic Swimmer (228) almost all the time. I always have blue mackerel and ghost color schemes with me. I sometimes have the 190 in ghost as well. But usually I just go with the big bait. It is a chore to cast and it sounds like a wet sock when it splashes down.
Great video man. Which rod/reel setup do you use for each of those lures?

Thank you! My go-to rod/reel combo for the Canal is an 11’ ODM Jigster rated 4-10oz paired with a Shimano Saragosa 14K. I’m not a fan of bringing expensive reels on those rocks at the ditch and I believe the Gosa is the best bang for your buck value out there in terms of reels for its price. I also use a 10’6” TFO rated 2-6oz paired with a Penn Slammer III 6500 for topwater. Early in the season I use a Lamiglas Carbon Surf 9’ rated 0.5-3oz paired with a Shimano Saragosa 6K when the early arrivals are showing up.

@@nightshiftfishingthanks for the reply. Is that a 3 tube zbelt surf bag you’re using? How do you like it?

@@emoney508 yes, I previously used the 2-tube version and I liked that one but I stuffed all my pencils and jigs in there. It was too much. So when Luke dropped the 3-tube version I picked one up. I really like it. Simple and just the right size for me.
