"The Vikings did not invent braids. Viking hair braiding can be traced back to the Viking Age (793 AD-1066 AD), whereas the origin of braids can be traced back 5000 years in African culture to 3500 BC with the Himba people of Namibia" "The Dutch braid was not invented by the Netherlanders as many people wonder, instead, this hairstyle was adopted by the South African immigrants that came to the Netherlands. African women used to tie their hair into various kinds of braids to protect them from the damage caused by the sun." "One of the earliest depictions of braided hairstyles hails from the 3,500 BC Saharan desert. Ancient African cave paintings depicted images of women with intricate braids weaved close to their scalp, or, as we know them now, cornrows." That comes from about 10 seconds of google searching and just copy/pasted the top quote. Not speaking for myself, only giving info.

I was born and spent my childhood in Tajikistan. I really loved Navruz. We are not Persians and did not celebrate it at home, but when everyone around you celebrates, you also feel this holiday. We with my classmates and my teacher used to go to a special bazaar where baked goods specially prepared for Navruz were sold. Everyone used to dress festively and there was a real feeling of spring coming
