    Burris range finding scope? elevation solved. Still wont solve the time to target of an arrow, from the crack of the bow till impact. The deer's reaction time and the speed of sound will limit your ethical distance until we get bows shooting 1100fps or breed deaf deer.

  • @BooneDownSouth
    @BooneDownSouth16 сағат бұрын

    Knowing the distance is always easy to figure out. It's the stuff you can't see that far out that an arrow will clip and change trajectory, or worse, trigger a mechanical broadhead to open too early, and all those other things you mentioned that limits the shot. Breed deaf deer - that's funny! ;)

    You can hunt with whatever you choose, but crossbows should not be legal buying bow seasons. You I know, it says cross"bow", but it's really not the same category.

  • @BooneDownSouth
    @BooneDownSouth23 сағат бұрын

    First of all, I would love to hunt with a recurve, but a person has to know their limits in order to respect the game. I don't have the time to put in the amount of practice it would take for me to be accurate enough with a recurve to make a clean kill. As far as the argument of not having crossbows during bow seasons, we can disagree. I understand and fully agree, that a crossbow makes it easier than a bow, compound or recurve. Some people may not agree with me on that, but it does. Aim and shoot right? There just isn't near the same amount of movement that drawing a bow takes. Less movement has to equate with a little easier. I have hunted with a compound bow my entire life. I enjoyed the challenge. However, I have had surgery on both of my shoulders at this point. I don't want to risk damaging them again at my age. So I shoot a crossbow now instead of the compound bow. In fact, come rifle season, for 95% of the time I am still using a crossbow, because I get more satisfaction out of hunting up close and personal with it. The thing is, that adding crossbow hunting to bow seasons has done more for preserving our sport of hunting than the negatives that people claim it does. I have only understood 2 negatives with adding crossbows to bow season. The first negative is from the purists. Well it just isn't a bow... so what. It was the same purists, that put down compound bows and made statements back in the day.. what 65% letoff, oh no that's a lot more than 50% letoff, we can't have that. blah blah blah. is it really hurting the purist if another guy is out there using a crossbow? No. The other negative is for those folks who feel threatened by being overrun with crossbow hunters during bow season. The reality is that just hasn't happened to any degree worth talking about. To those I say quit being selfish. The positives on the other side are that it brings more people into the sport of hunting. It allows you to take youth or women who are not able to draw a bow back and gives them the opportunity to hunt during that time. A lot of folks work 9-5, and have other responsibilities on the weekends and don't get a lot of time to hunt. Perhaps the archery season, gives them another 2 days to hunt with their available schedule? You don't have to agree with it, and that is fine. But again, there is far more benefit to it than the perceived negatives IMO.

    What happened to your shoulder bro? I’m 25 an had a serious shoulder injury i finished rehabing after operation as someone with lifting a major hobby ppl scare me when they talk about unusable shoulders at 40 or under but yeah man hope that gets worked out

  • @BooneDownSouth
    @BooneDownSouth22 сағат бұрын

    I don't really know what caused my shoulder problems. I have shot a compound bow for 35 years, I work out, I paddle kayak as well, so not sure what did it really. Never had an accident that would have caused damage. My first shoulder just started a pain when doing certain things at the gym or pulling certain objects, and it just became a dull pain that would linger. It built up over a 2 year period and then I finally had surgery. Went to rehab, was getting better, starting working out again, got up to 100 pushups a day, and then started getting pain again. This time it was a SLAP tear. That was probably caused by me over doing it at my age. Then after that healed, the other shoulder developed that dull ache and about a year later I had that shoulder done. It takes about a full year to recover after each surgery. I am probably 97% of where I was, but if I do too much I can feel an uncomfortableness so I back off and try not to push it. It was in my late 40s when it started affecting me.

  • @BooneDownSouth
    @BooneDownSouth17 күн бұрын

    So I don't know for sure, but there are a lot of scopes that are very similar to this one. It is very possible that there are slight differences but all coming out of the same factory. This particular model, has the 50 yard marker at the center of the scope, most models have 20 yards at the center. The Cabela's model has 20 yards at the center. CVLIFE has just shipped me the 20 yard version to test out so I will be looking at that soon. This particular model with the 50 yard marker in the center is still being used on my main crossbow. It has proven to be very solid. I took 3 deer with it last season. I think the one that matches closest is the Cabela's Intensity that is $119, but it will actually be more like the other CVLIFE model that is being shipped to me currently.

    The problem though, according to statistics, is that most of the accidents that occur do not happen while you are just sitting in the stand, they happen when you are heading up and when you are heading down. 76 - 86% of the accidents happen that way. • @BooneDownSouth
    @BooneDownSouth18 күн бұрын

    I had bottom fall out on me a long time ago as well in a palm tree in Florida. First time in a borrowed heavy steel Amacker stand. The only way to get down was to shimmy down below the seat part and then push up on the seat to loosen it and it would fall a few inches and hit my head, then I could go down another foot and repeat until I got down with it. If I climbed straight down the tree by hugging it, I would never have been able to get top top part. Miserable event. That stand beat me up all the way down. That's when I learned to always tie the bottom to the top to help with that. But man you have a great example where if you didn't have a safety harness it could have been real bad news. It is not a bad thing to be a jerk to them about it. Better being a jerk than having them paralyzed for life.

    I appreciate you taking the time to create this post. However, I do not understand why your opening is comparing apples and turnips. There are some companies out there that will create an actual mold of your ear and make personal ear protection for you. You are REALLY asking this AXIL product to do way more than it is designed to do. Good Luck in your continued search for adequate ear protection/inhancement/all of the above and more.

  • @BooneDownSouth
    @BooneDownSouth18 күн бұрын

    Charles I never intended to ask this AXIL product to do more than it was advertised to do. My expectations were that it would do what it was advertised to do, nothing more. - Provide adequate hearing protection - which is does do. - Provide hearing enhancement - it did OK but not nearly as good as a set of Howard Leights. - Have a comfortable fit - for me it was not comfortable at all - Would stay in my ears - which it did not due to poor fit. - Would actually work - fully charged, yet battery dies in 10 mins - doesn't work - Slightest bump turns it off - not supposed to be that way - again doesn't work As a side note, I thought the fit issue was perhaps due to my ears being smaller than average. On my next visit to my audiologist, she told me my ear size was average. I was using the smallest tip that came with the AXIL. As far as the companies that make personal ear protection by making molds, I do know about them, but that is way more $$$ than I want to spend. The majority of my hunting time is spent with a crossbow so that is why I was hoping this product would do what it was advertised to do at this price point. I ended up just buying another pair of Howard Leights for when I do an occasional gun hunt. They have always worked solidly and I was just trying the AXIL out to see if they would work and cut down on the bulk at the same time. I am glad they work for some people, but I found the product that I purchased to not be very good in function or quality. Thanks for watching!

    So this is what you need to do. Sight in at 20 yards using the regular scope adjustments just to get the windage correct. Then once that is done, sight in at 50 yards using your scope adjustment. Yes that will totally mess up what you did at 20 yards but don't worry. They key is getting 50 yards dead on. Once 50 yards is dead on, do not make any more adjustments with the normal yardage adjustments on the scope. Now go back to 20 yards, but instead of using the normal windage and yardage adjustments on your scope, you are going to use the speed adjustment or "zoom" ring. Adjust in one direction and if that takes you further away, make your adjustment in the other direction. You will figure it out in a couple of shots. But keep making the adjustments on the speed ring until your 20 is on. During this whole process, your 50 will always be on because it is the center of the scope and the center never changes as you change zoom on the speed ring. Once you have the 20 yards set with this method, you should be good to go. I ended up shooting mine out to 80 yards with this method.

    What section are you on? From what I've seen most sections of the Chattooga are not suitable for fishing on a kayak. I'm not looking to go over bull sluice just for a fish.

    It's part of section 1 and section 2. We put in at Russell Bridge at the state line and took out at Long Bottom Ford campground. We had some shoals but nothing serious to worry about.

    This video is so helpful. Is this pretty much a smooth paddle? Is there any white water?

    There are shoals in several sections of this stretch but nothing bad. It is a loooong run though.

    Thanks Rich! I am a big proponent of wearing a safety harness and not just the safety harness but the whole lifeline. When I was young and dumb I would climb 20' up a tree putting tree steps in along the way and then mounting one of those old loc-on stands on the tree with no harness or nothing. Then I bowhunted out of that little loc-on stand with nothing. It is only by the grace of God I never fell. How foolish I was back then. I think everyone needs to wear a safety harness and use a lifeline. Every year there are bad stories of people falling from their treestand.
