Team pickguard, and that is a fantastic bass, I just love it, vibe, sound, look, the whole thing!! I have a Supro Huntington 1 with a gold foil pickup that just kill's and a Novak Bisonic on a '67 Epiphone Rivoli both with flats, so that's my kind of sound.

The project is dope. Looks amazing Sounds even better. I am in favor of the pick guard and the thumb rest. I just added my own home made thumb rest to my project Bronco bass due to how flush the mfd pickup sits into the body. Wasn’t anywhere to rest my hand. So mine is strategically closer to the strings for utility as well as adding the classic wood thumb rest vibe.

Great idea adding that specific pickup! I guess you’ll be able to use this bass quite a lot more. And the tonality in a way comes closer to your Mustang now, but different. But, you’ll remain able to do the Darkstar thing too. Great! Love the pickguard. Only the easy to adjust Hipshot bridge brings it into the 20’s. 😄 Well, this is the 20’s... 😆 Great looking bass! 🖖

The goldfoil has a definite vibe, more vocal with a clear attack. I dig the pickguard, but I'm of two minds regarding the color. Mind 1: change the pickguard, selector knob and vol/tone plate to black, or Mind 2: leave the bass as is, because it reminds me of the inside view of a box of assorted chocolates. Now I want chocolates.

Flats? What are they & how old? If I ever break a Sadowsky (5years),La Bella’s low tension are tempting. Normally I’m no pick guard but after I put a Bart in the Dub King, the guard covers my routing…Harley Benton HB-60 WB with a Novak has been floating around my head but would I be able to retrofit a Hipshot bridge?

Curtis Novak’s attention to detail when recreating pickups needs to be studied. The pickups he made for Serek for their Lincoln 3 bass (their take on the Gibson Grabber 3) sound EXACTLY like the Bill Lawrence originals.

My special bass is probably my 2014 MIM Fender Dimension with one humbucker. Super comfortable, looks great, best neck I've ever played and it sounds magical with flats. Oh, and it's the cheapest instrument I own, and it probably has zero collectors value. It doesn't get too many gigs, since I'm in a heavier rock/metal scene, but it's usually the first one I reach for when I practice or just want to play something for myself.

"The drummers are not the time keeper, the whole band is the time keeper". Thank you from a drummer! Sure the bass and drums need to and are known for good timing, but if any other band mate speeds up or slows down it will mess with everyone no matter how tight the bass and drums are. Great video!

Great video man. Another good piece of advice would be get to know the bass you have. This goes for beginners and experts. Having a bunch of different basses can be great but it won’t make you a better player and can actually hinder progression because you can be so fixated on the next “best” thing. Get to know the instrument you have and know it well. Whether it’s a $500 bass or a $5000 bass, you’re still going to sound like you at the end of the day.

Thank you for creating this video on an often overlooked bass critical for the “tic tac” sound popularized in the 1960’s on many country and pop recordings. (Lineman of the County) If you are ever able to source a Fender Bass V, you might consider a video on it as well. It is a 15 fret, 5 string bass traditionally strung EADGC. It predates the Mustang bass by one year, coming out in 1965. Though it never caught on, it was made known by John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin and Walter Becker of Steely Dan.
