    Great video. Just watched it today. Wished I found your video 3 weeks ago when I had a sticky C key where the right half of the white butterfly frame was broken. Apple refused to fix it and wanted to charge $500 for it. I watched a different video where some guy recommend removing the bottom gasket and I could then no longer put it back. I could have just gotten another white frame and followed your steps which would make it a lot easier to deal with.

    I’m curious why people aren’t using solder paste on the cable repairs?

    Interesting, I am curious why you think that would be a better thing to do? I can’t really think of a reason to not try that? I just prefer the way I am use to and it’s cleanup process.

    Is this method as good as soldering one on top of the other like other repairs have shown? (not the using wires to join, the sandwich way is best I can describe it).

    brother, I need your help, I have an imac a1418 (2014) that drives me crazy, it does not provide audio, the strange thing is that it does provide audio when the machine starts, once the system starts, it does not do so, it does not detect any device, except one that says digital output, I have already ruled out the system, I already changed the headphone jack, I measured if voltage was reaching the codec, and if it did, (just in case I replaced it) and the problem continues, I no longer know what to do, thanks in advance .

  • @JosephHughes

    Hey! I have not offered this as a preemtive repair. I have seen so many systems just working fine and flexgate never happened to them some reason. But technically, yes it could be.

    Just did mine. Wish I would have seen this first. I broke out the old broken butterfly clip. I ended up unglueing the plastic cap to get the new fragile butterfly clip underneath. My eyes are not that good. I guess you almost need a microscope to do this. Magnifying glass on a stand, like the soldering stand, sdmaybe? I did find I needed to firmly rub and a press down all around the edges of the plastic cap to get it sealed down again. Sketchy business. My keyboard is barely better. I figure it will never be all the way alright again.

    Now I am watching this after ending up with a cracked screen. I bought a used 21.5 inch iMac 1 year ago on eBay for a good price, however forgot about the display glued to the rest of the machine until I wanted to replace the darn Fusion Drive in it! for a SSD solution! It watched tons of other videos on how to replace a hard disk with a SSD in search of a few good hints on how to.refix the two display connectors after the disk exchange in order to see if the system is working. I had the display come loose unbroken or cracked, but when reassembling the machine I fixed ithe bottom side of display with painters mask tape to prevent it from sliding over the case's edge and tried all sorts to fix those 2 darn display connectors. I thought I had managed to do so, powered the system on but nothing happened so I guess those connectors were not in place correctly. I took the display carefully off again but it slipped out of place falling onto the towel underneath the upstanding iMac when I was busy trying to fix those connectors properly. So I ended up with a cracked and splintered display still not working ... Out of frustration I bought on eBay a 2 years younger 2015 model with a factory installed SSD and 16 GB RAM for a unter 100€ here in Europe as a replacement. Do know what to do with the other one. I do love these smaller 21.5 inch iMacs over the bigger 27 inch model. And with Open Legacy Patcher the installation of macOS 14 Sonoma is no problem at all on these beautiful machines. If I actually do think one day I need a faster machine for example to do perhaps more intensive video editing I can use my Mac mini M1 system with a dual display setup, but anything else ....

  • @JosephHughes

    We don’t glue the caps on, the should click back on. To glue the plastic protector down we use something like T-7000 But if any glue touches the cap or butterfly mechanism, you will have problems

    And also I read that some people faced problem not with flex cable length itself. But with dust that accumulates under flex cables (this one that you cleaned with brush) and rubs the cable over time. What causes problems with the Display Matrix and so on. Are you supposed to clean in time to time? And can you not disassemble your mac and just use compressed air outside the hinge?

  • @Vlllllllla
    @Vlllllllla10 ай бұрын

    Hi! Can you please compare 2016/2017 pro’s flex cables with 2018 pro. Cause I saw that Apple adress that problem and make backlight cable 2mm longer. Is it actually true? And we no longer have the same issue with newer macs
