Ever wondered what life looks like on the other side of leaving it all?
Quitting your job, selling your house and buy a boat to sail around the World?
We did too. And then, we took the plunge.
We are Ryan and Sophie, an American guy and a French girl who met in Sweden, on a cold night of March 2015. Shortly thereafter, we decided to leave our corporate jobs to live a big sailing adventure around the World together.
We had no experience of sailing at all before we started, and had honestly no idea what we were getting ourselves into. Turns out, with a bit of willpower and work, anything goes. The dream came true on June 5th of 2018, when we finally got to set sail from our home port in Stockholm.
Welcome to our channel, where we tell the stories of our sailing voyage, from zero experience to full-time cruising!
Don't forget to subscribe (it helps us a lot ;)) and check out our website at www.ryanandsophie.com for more sailing-related photos and articles!

Just come across your channel and I absolutely love your funny way of explaining things. Also, appreciate the honesty as I am planning on retiring on a boat in about 2 years but want to obviously make 100% sure that this is what I want and need. Dont have time or money to make a mistake. Keep up the good work, I am sure there are a lot of people like me that need the truth.
GO BUY A BOAT! ...WAY TO MUCH WORK AND MONEY FOR THIS SIZE BOAT
name her "SANDY" for all your time
Of course we liked the video! We always do! But 12 years here in Sweden? Då kan du prata en hel del svenska? Good luck with Polar crab 💕😀😄🇸🇪
So names... Sandling, Sand Bar, Shoal (which is made of sand), Dust, Stardust, Sand n Vac, Sand Clear, Power Tool, Fillet Queen, Fillet O Sole, Wet Sand, Dust in My Eyes. Ok, thats enough. Your video was very good! Entertaing, informative, very well edited, just a pleasure to watch! I know it was a massive process to stitch the vid together, but you did a great job. Bravo and thank you. BTW, the boat came out gorgeous.
Frankly neither both of you change a bit in your looks.
Sophie n Ryan, I have been following you for a while now. I had a few months break as I have a few issues to settle. Noticed that Sophie do lost a bit of weight and Ryan gain a little. With Ryan increasing responsibility to his full time job, I really hope that will not hinder your plans to continue seeing the world as you did. May all your plan to see Polar Seal 2 a reality.
❤️ beautiful
Your content was fantastic thank you. I’ve been going through a terrible time in my life and this video made my day a bit brighter
Sandbar Great honest video
A big fan of CLC Boats, building one of their boats now... but fortunately, I don't need to video it. Nice work on the boat and the video.
Beautiful. I think I want to build one but it's scary for someone with questionable dedication to such a large project... By the way, I live in Annapolis and sail/own a sailboat that needs a lot of sanding and epoxy... I like Crab Cake for the name!
hi sophie, I did enjoy this video but have to say that I always enjoy your video's, you are badass, keep it up you awesome woman.
I've wanted to build a stitch and glue boat for a long time unfortunately I am too old and feeble to do so at this point in life. I liked your narration of the video and the shots you chose to use. Chesapeake Light Craft is a company whose products I admire and the finished product is both elegant and handsome. Thank you for sharing this with us and I look forward to seeing some of the videos of the details.
Ummmmmmm...... SANDY!!! 💥
Amazing very nice boat making love you guys form Pakistan 🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰
Sanddy
How can you not have an absolute crush with the little lady.
Well done on the videos… thankyou for your time and content.. and I agree the boat should be called Sandy!!!!!
Best video yet, great job. I built the 17 kayak and that was a big job but I still use it 18 years later.

Dusty or Dust
Thank you Sophie great job building the boat and great job for the editing I can imagine it took a lot of time. Tack så mycket!! Hope you will get many happy memories with it❤
I was so happy to spend the day with you both while you were working so hard on this project!
Great to see you making videos! Boat name: 220 GRIT (in honor of the sandpaper)
I've long dreamt of building my own boat, yours looks amazing!
I saw this land a couple of days ago but it’s been such a manic and crazy week, I saved it to be able to watch on the big screen, with wine in hand, tonight. So glad I did. That was an epic build and an absolutely fabulous result! Looking forward to seeing the full build process, and your adventures in her.
Thanks
Polar Pup is a great name!
Good work ❣️
Great GREAT video !!!!!!!
My vote is for S $ E. Could be cardinal points. Could be for S and E. (Sandy). Thank you for the video. Transparent and self effacing. Loved it.
Ryan… I am trying to convert my boat to 32KW Lithium Phosphate… I need your help… do you have a contact number?
You can contact at [email protected]
So great to see this video. We met you and Ryan at CLC before you had started to build the boat. My husband had finished the Peeler Skiff and was beginning work on the Peapod sailboat which is now finished and on a trailer waiting for it to be moved to its New England home. Your boat turned out to be a real beauty. Hope you are enjoying boating on the Chesapeake.
Amazing very nice
You did a fantastic job on the video Sophie!...and also an incredible job on building the boat!
Great one, thanks a lot!
Great video--and wow, what a beautiful boat you've made!! My idea for a name is "Sand Crab" so you never forget the joy of spending hundreds of hours sanding epoxy. :D
I vote for Polar Cub... keep the name in the family :)
love Love Love this, “Women are the better boat builder!”❤
Right?!!! I think the World just needs more women boat builders... :)
Love you guys
Name the boat. Sandy. It’s a reference to all your Sanding.
Great Job Sophie! I also built my own (very small) row boat and it is a lot of work but also a lot of fun. Just taking some photos for facebook seemed to be a big deal to me, so I can imagine what it was like to put together this video. Can't wait to see what is next.
Sophie, Awesome job on the video it was great. Your dedication to details on the boat shows. Great Job!!!
Garet job 🎉
hahaha. subscribed just for the typical youtube water/boat scenery intro to 404. wasn't expecting that. nice.
Enjoyed it so much I feel I have an extra reason to make the trip down to Annapolis!
why would you spend $13 000 on electric engine when you can get a readily available convenient 20hp gas engine for $3000!!
Great video. The boat looks great and I am looking forward to seeing more videos on the build process.
Polar Pup is good. I would go with "Baby Seal" Excellent narrative by the way, for what could be a relatively dry story this was a shockingly engaging video.
Amazing video. Thanks so much for sharing.
Even tho a Pacific fis, name the boat sanddab
Is this really what it has come too Good bye
Beautifully made video!
