    It’s sailing- plans always change. I took my Sabre 402 up the Champlain Canal last year in preparation to enter the St Lawrence in a few weeks with a goal of Gaspe this season. Don’t know what you draw but the Champlain Canal saves several hundred miles over the Erie for your goal.

    It is awesome that you guys show the "glamorous" side of cruising in your videos. Its not always sandy beaches and Pina Coladas. I redid the electrical during lockdown on my First 235 so I know some of what Ryan has been going through, though, I think my space was a bit more cramped. ;-) I redid my head too so I get your pain Sophie as well. Again, a great vid and heck I haven't sailed either even though we have been on the lake for 3 weeks, halyards.... ugh. We will get sailing soon as you will too!

    Wow. lots of work done this week and the new electrical stuff looks great. I am concerned about where you transitioned from the 1" to 1½"ø hose. When you go from a small diameter to large diameter, the speed of the water flow will reduce velocity of the $h1+ that is flowing through the hose. I assume that the new hose is 1" and the old is 1½"ø. That is a pipe that is 2.24 times more area than the 1"ø. The problem with that is that because the fluid slows down, the solids will fall out of suspension, and you will end up with more $h1+ in the hose than you did before. It would be much better to run the 1"ø hose all the way back to the tank or thru-hull so that the fast moving water will carry the solids out with the liquid.

    Have you ever considered installing dry composting toilets? It's one of the first things we did on our catamaran. It changes life (no more leakage problems, no more bad smells), space saving (we removed the waste tank) and less water usage. I hope to see you in the Pacific Ocean at some point ...

    Brought back memories of rewiring the Beneteau 361 with the LiFePO4/Victron system. Spent most of a winter planning everything with Visio diagrams. Still took twice as long as expected, so I feel your pain. Nice result. Sorry to hear about your shortened plans. If you want a stop before the C&D Canal, I have an empty 40' slip at North East River Yacht Club you can use. My boat is on the hard right now and won't be launched until late July.

    There is always the New-York Champlain Canal that takes you from NYC to Lake Champlain and then to the St-Lawrence River not so far from Montréal. It would cut the trip short by a month. The only factor to consider is that the boat should have less than 6.5feet of draft to pass the Richelieu River canal system. Salutations

    Was thinking that also. Could go straight up the Hudson and thru Lake Champlain to connect to the St. Lawrence as opposed to branching thru the eastern portion of the Erie Canal to shave off some time. Unfortunately, I think they are still going to be short of time at this point. You really need to get out of the Maritimes by mid-August and down below Maine by mid-September to avoid the Fall storm season.

    Toilet Pipe Calcification is a problem caused by urine meeting Seawater apparently, and regularly Flushing with Neat Spirit Vinegar that you leave in the Pipes for a while, before Flushing it through with Fresh Spirit Vinegar, you keep repeating until you can’t hear the Vinegar working on the Calcification in the Pipe any longer, then just do the same thing regularly, to prevent the Calcification building up and reducing the internal diameter of the pipe, until it becomes Blocked. I haven’t tried this on my boat yet, as I’m still waiting to buy my next Sailboat, but Spirit Vinegar is cheap, and it is great for removing marks off gel coat, Non Skid, etc. Thankfully you can’t get Marine Spirit Vinegar, or it would cost hundreds of dollars a gallon. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bon in Wales. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🌟🌟🌟

    Your wiring looked like some system wiring on an airplane that has been flying on contract for ages before coming back to main base for a long C check. Too many wiring patches that are no longer labeled or has printing worn out from grease and whatever. 😉 didn’t know there was certification for working on marine wiring. BTW, Sophie, that was a nice install. Every time my crew used to do new install, it could always that ONE FASTENER or contact would be missing or on back order.

    If you prefer to use potable water to flush rather than seawater, use water from the sink faucet. I keep a tall water glass on the counter for this purpose.

  • @svechappe6075

    @svechappe6075

    Жыл бұрын

    We only flush with fresh water to dramatically reduce, if not eliminate, odors from our heads. We pull over our sink faucet, which is on a pull-out shower head, to fill and rinse the bowl. Of course, if you are traveling in areas where fresh water is not always readily available, you probably don't want to waste your fresh water supply. But flushing with sea water is the number one reason that boat heads develop odors.

    The complexity of modern boats! Ryan has done great work on the electricals. Sophie seems to have some time on her hands, she could do some technical boat courses/exams! After all every couple global cruisers I personally can both sail the boat and fix everthing from engine to electrics. Credit for the heads install. It seems Mr Bach needs to renamed St Jeff the patron saint of global sailors in Annapolis. I think Ryan deserves a Swan 108, but shouldn't tell Sophie there's an entire crew back there.

    4-ought. We use less than that on 2300 volt 3-phase carrying 150 amps. I'd crank up your voltage a bit, maybe standardize on 600vAC3ph buses Easy to step down if you have to run a coffee maker or washing machine. Great if you have to directly power high-output reliable motors.

    As much as I love watching, you guys do your thing I must say that I skipped over the entire destruction and reinstallation of your toilet. It’s one particular area where boats are concerned, and even where they’re not concerned, that I would like to have nothing to do with, so it was just not at all entertaining to watch you struggle Sophie . I must add that I have seen toilet struggles before on Delos and that was plenty. But it seems to be a prevalent problem with all boats that their sewage plumbing is problematic and for all the years that boat builders have been building boats, that they cannot come up with a better system is just tragic.
