Thanks! I find these useful. Do you find it difficult to stay looking at the negative space? I can see it easily but many times drawing I slip into positive space and run amok. I am hoping this improves with experience.

i like your philosophy, it also reminds me of my arts teacher in middle school who always brought up this example: " so here is a cow in a field photo that i want to draw, a shadow cast upon the cow from a telephone pole off the photo frame is right down the middle of a cow.. so what do you do? do you 'cut the cow in half' by this strange shadow? - no, ofc not, it makes no sense.." 😂 i often get influenced by rather boring looking google earth images bc of exciting scenery, but it would be boring to reproduce it 1 to 1, so i invent my own weather condition upon that image from my mind, applying a light and shadow to feature shapes

🤣So true for me as well! I know that I can be good at it if I put in the time…but my skill level and my vision are miles apart right now! And yes, life is a bit busy. Still I want to get there, so I guess big plans require lots of little steps👀😉

I thought the vertical positioning of reference and art was an interesting and effective change for this subject, rather than the much more usual positioning of the reference on the left and drawing on the right.
