Conquer Driving

Conquer Driving

I've been teaching people to drive since February 2009 and I've been an avid car enthusiast ever since I can remember. The goal of this channel is to make all my motoring knowledge available to the public. I make videos on both learning to drive and motoring in general to help you pass your test and become a savvy driver.

Richard, your comments on diesel development would make too much sense for the government to implement, unfortunately, a lot of these ULEZ and LEZ policies are designed to gain political points by trying to appear like they're doing the "right thing" to combat climate change. On a side note, your videos are great!

Great video, excellent advice. I think that in most cases I have been into traffic (as a new driver), I have to constantly change between gears 1 & 2.

Any one reading, if you've heard your engine is prone to LSPI NEVER DO THIS! Always downshift! Good rule of thumb is if an auto box would have downshifted, then you should to. Good luck my astra K 1.4t friends

I do like your episodes, I wish there were more out there with a view to educate - not criticise - drivers in driving etiquette and the Highway Code and its application. There are three activities that wind me up, driving with fog lights when visibility doesn't warrant them, parking against oncoming traffic and hogger’s of middle and outside lanes, this is particularly dangerous because it causes frustration in other drivers which causes them to act with a bit of anger and thus likely to create an increase in risk of collision.

0:10 well actually, there are 6. You forgot about press neither and bounce off the vehicle or object in front. If PS1 racing games have taught me anything, that is usually the most effective way of cornering.

I am a new driver and just purchased a Renault Clio initiale 2010 automatic. When I do maneuroves sometimes it rolls in drive or reverse but then stops and I have to give some acceleration to complete the maneurove. This is a problem as however lightly I touch the accelerator it goes too fast and I have to hit the brake straight away or risk hitting another vehicle. Is there a way to keep it in creep mode so I never have to apply acceleration during a maneurove?

Resting your foot on the clutch is a pet peeve of mine. Also not selecting neutral and releasing the clutch when at a slow stop light. And, not being in gear before a curve (always be in gear!).

How come the short joining road shown from 2:50 to 3:05 has a line down the middle and double-lines and single lines on the side of the smaller road, but only single lines and no line down the middle on the side of the busy road? The busy side seems to be more dangerous, as that looks more like an exit only road from the main road.

I am happy that lane hoggers move out to the 3rd/4th or middle lane. It keeps the left lane clear 90% of the time. I am in the left lane doing 70, and all the other idiots are doing 50-60 mph. Yea boy, you stay out there. 😂

Was on the motorway yesterday… the left lane was busy the whole way with trucks… I tried many times to get back in to the left. I did just go back to the middle more regularly, but forever checking that people were not behind me tailgating or getting frustrated, I did top speed all the way. I got out of the way for folks who wanted to get past me. And off they went doing 90 - had to be at the speed compared to me! If it was clear I got back in the left. Middle lane hoggers in my opinion are only a problem if they are going slow and you need to overtake them! If you wanna go slower… get in the left.

It's a nightmare for bus or LGV drivers as the angle of the slats block out the colour of any light due to how high up the driver is.

My girlfriend is technically my pupil now as I’ve taken it upon myself to teach her at the ripe age of 21 and so far she’s taken my mustang out on a late night drive with minimal worries to me although when cars come towards her on the opposite lane she tends to “avoid” them by leaning into the bicycle lane a bit too much making me giggle which was NOT the right thing to do as it made her very anxious and she hasn’t driven with me again and it has been months.. I fear I may have hurt her trust with me and I was very excited to help her as my father who helped me learn was an scca sponsored track racer back in the 90’s and made driving a pure joy to me 😅 I hope to regain her trust again soon as she really isn’t that bad at driving at all she just needs more confidence

So my dad used to say it was because street racers like him got too good at reading the light on the right.. (when it went red it meant your was about to go green) so having louvers prevented them from reading that 😅

4:05, this is the technique I've been taught by my instructor and seems pretty easy to do. When it comes to buying a car, is there any way of knowint which cars I would get away with this method in? (Apart from obviously taking it for a test drive, but ideally I would want to know before that point)

No holding the clutch in cause excessive heat in your clutch it is actually not as hard on your clutch to down shift while braking as long as you are not to high in the rpms I do agree for the most part but you never want to hold your clutch down for long periods of time even sitting still just throw it in neutral and let off the clutch then use your brakes and then press clutch in select gear after you come to stop or ready to go again

  • @Vinny_Capatony

As an American learner with my first 5 speed I’ve been binge watching these and then going out and driving around for hours after practicing 😅 I’ve gotten decent at rec matching but my older car is very precise with the rev locations between shifts so I have to make sure I’m on it! Also hill starts were terrifying to me until I realized the E-brake method wasn’t actually hard I was just scared to try it My advice for nervous learners is to just put yourself in the worst of it like traffic and stop signs then do it again because that’s all driving really is in the end 😅

The standard of driving on all roads is getting worse, I think people have been taught how to pass a driving test, not road craft, so there’s no hazard perception, no forward thinking, no courtesy, no skill, it’s very easy to educate yourself in this.

I've just passed in a modern, very forgiving diesel, and was taught not to use gas until we were moving because that car didn't need it. Now I'm buying a little old petrol car. Thank you for your brilliant videos - I'm using them to brush up on some bits with my new car in mind!
