The Thomistic Institute

The Thomistic Institute

The Thomistic Institute exists to promote Catholic truth in our contemporary world by strengthening the intellectual formation of Christians at universities, in the Church, and in the wider public square. The thought of St. Thomas Aquinas, the Universal Doctor of the Church, is our touchstone.

Founded in 2009, the Thomistic Institute is part of the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC.

Our KZread channel features Aquinas 101, a series of free video courses that help you to engage life’s most urgent philosophical and theological questions with the wisdom of St. Thomas Aquinas.

    human race did NOT have its origin in a couple that really existed. To claim such drivel is outragous. there is no big difference in "souls" between humans and our nearest ape relatives.

    There is a question that we don't see much: - Why is there a second person in the Trinity: Jesus? Why the second person in the Trinity is also a man?

    Everything was good untill you brought trinity Bro trust me you lost me there It doesn't make any sense Yes. Your previous speech consisted of some truths but your conclusion is just madness Thats why islam is the truth We don't just believe, we question everything, even the Quran , but guess what there is answer for every question So Return to the Almighty God who has no partners, who has no children , no parents , God is one ,eternal ,all knowing , most powerful, most high ,the creator of everything,God is not like anything In arabic we call Allah ,The Almighty 😊 I bear witness that there is no One worthy of worship except Allah and Adam ,Noah , Abraham ,Moses ,Jesus , Mohammad,all are the messengers of Allah (peace be on all of them ) And PROPHET MUHAMMAD (peace be upon him) is the last and final messenger of God

    Why call it 3 separate persons? I am a person separate than you, we are not the same person, so why divide God in 3? There is only one person in the Trinity, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are but manifestation of the same Person, the only and one God creator of the universe.

    St. Thomas Aquinas must have had a very high IQ. I don’t think that people with IQs below 80 or even 85 are able to understand the concept of order. Hence, many countries in the world are in a constant state of disorder. And currently, Western Civilization is dying because of the importation of massive amounts of people from the Third World.

    Nobody can answer the question, "How did Jesus, a flesh and bones infant, come out of Mary's womb?" Nobody can answer that question because it's obvious what the answer does to the doctrine of Mary's perpetual virginity.

    Got it. To be truly faithful and in communion with the One True Church I am required to participate in the ritual cannibalism of a Middle Eastern deity from the classical era, manifested so by a virgin man dressed like a chess piece who says some incantations over bread and wine. He cares deeply for me but says that if I don't participate I run a greater than average risk of being set on fire forever after I die. What's not to love about this religion? How can anyone not embrace this?

    The guest is way off about justice. Justice IS love, it does not get in the way of love nor is it self centered. Where is the self centeredness in not charging a criminal for killing an innocent foreigner? By his definition, since justice is self centered, the dead man (who nobody knew) is no longer around to be self centered, so how is justice (charging the murderer) self centered? I can't believe he wasn't corrected for this. What he described is vengeance. Which is obviously self centered and prideful. By his logic, I can only assume he thinks mercy is for anyone and everyone without contingency. That's simply not true. Mercy is for the repentent. We see this in the Bible. What everyone falls for these days is presumption. They think forgiveness can be given/taken without change. We are called to change, to repent, and that is when we experience true mercy.

  • @mariac4602
    @mariac46025 күн бұрын

    But remember, Christ showed us mercy while we were still sinners. This is the incredible mercy of God-so incomprehensible to our weak self-seeking desires. I understand that you are desiring justice for serious crimes, and that is fair. But this discussion is reaching beyond human systems of law and order -which are necessary in our broken world - but are not the final Word.

  • @DoubleOhSilver
    @DoubleOhSilver3 күн бұрын

    @@mariac4602 Well first, we are talking about human implementation of justice. We can't just extend mercy carelessly. We can't say that we can't exact perfect justice yet believe we can exact perfect mercy. Secondly, that is only extended to those who don't know what they did was wrong. Otherwise, it is called mortal sin and we are called to repent to be forgiven. When we don't, that is when it might become obstinacy in sin, or even presumption.

    This is just more blaming of men and 0 accountability for women. This is why nobody listens to Catholics about dating. Plenty of men do want to be the headship of the family. But most women 1) aren't virgins, 2) are entitled, 3) aren't feminine / are overly masculine, and 4) avoid men. I did what I needed to be a good husband. I can cook, clean, take care of myself, and make enough to provide. I don't even watch "adult content" nor do I fornicate. I have friends like me. But every girl I date is hung up on an ex, I even had the displeasure of meeting someone's ex on the first date. And it's usually the first one they ever slept with, I assume, since it's usually their first serious relationship). Everyone acts like a divorcee, it's sad. And I get it, marriage is about love, not check boxes, but realize these are not easy things to move past, they directly affect the relationship. Even if you forgive someone's past, they can't unsleep with someone else - there is no restitution. Yet men are expected to settle, to not care about her being ran through, to excel. And women are treated like babies. Never actually held responsible for lacking in any manner. Never expected to grow but expected to demand growth from her husband. Prenups are discouraged, ignoring that there is a default prenup (that favors women) since divorce outside the church exists anyway. For other men out there: Never take dating advice from Catholic media, they give some of the worst advice.

    I know first hand something supernatural goes on during the eucharist. I went during a Saturday afternoon massage once and as it began I was feeling bad sickly. Dizzy agitated and really really spaced out and something urging me to leave running. I stayed and once the priest was about over with the ceremony felt something pop off out of my chest.

    @The Thomistic Institute, how can you claim that the fall is what caused evil if it is an allegorical story? what about the earthquakes, tsunamis and typhoons 100's of thousands of years ago that would have wiped out our genetic ancestors, "pre-fall"? Are these not certain evils? Or am I missing something. I am not a biblical literalist, I don't believe in young earth creationism, I do believe in evolution, and I am Catholic Christian. I want to know the truth. Thank you for what you do otherwise! your content is very enlightening.

    So God allowed the holocaust to happen to bring about a greater good. Finally an explanation that makes total sense- thanks Thomists! I feel so much better about it now! And next time we can hope that there will be even more horror, death, and destruction, because God's plan ensures that this will lead to an even greater amount of 'greater good'! Same for natural disasters, the more death, the more greater good. No wonder they call them 'Acts of God'!
