About the speaker: Fr. John Corbett, O.P. is a native of Columbus Ohio. He graduated from Providence College in 1973 and was ordained a Dominican priest in 1980. He received the Doctorate in Sacred Theology from Fribourg University in Switzerland. He has taught moral theology at Providence College, The Josephinum in Columbus and the Dominican House of Studies in Washington D.C. He is currently helping both in the Novitiate with spiritual direction and in the wider parish with Mass, preaching, and confessions.

John Corbett makes a great teacher
Swedenborgians smile when we hear of “realized eschatology”. We are the only ones who go the whole hog.
This is so profoundly unsatisfying. Fr Corbett literally says at 41:37 that the interpretive tradition that reinterprets “soon” in God’s time (1000 years is like one day) makes it “true but basically meaningless”. Then he concludes at 45:00 by saying that’s exactly what we have to do anyway, giving the example of a 70 year old looking back on his teens as though it was just a moment. So fr’s conclusion is that Christian eschatology is “true but basically meaningless to us”. Cool.
