The first thing I grabbed as a kid was a set of car keys. Since then, a passion for these four-wheeled beasts has grown in me that continues to dictate my life decisions, both good and bad. Let me take you along with me in whatever I do in this hobby; life’s short so why not have some fun - who needs a savings anyways?

    Hearing that starter turn over, and the exhaust note that followed after 2-3 revs brought something outta me man. My Dad drove a 240sx for 19 some odd years, and I was old enough to remember the night he brought it home. Early 2000's were a trip, getting picked up from school in that car, then later that night going to the movie rental place, and then drifting the entire way back. It's a special kind feeling when you can look at a picture of the car, and you can just hear it turning over, sitting there idling afterwards. Only two times in my life I've ever seen my Dad dry was when his brother passed, and then when he was finally forced to sell his 240. So many wild memories, and an equal amount of broken engine parts, because damn did he drive it like he stole it. Yours sounds exactly like what used to wake up the neighborhood at five in the morning for so many years. Big of a Toyota guy as I am, the 240's got a special place in my heart. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

    Wow thoroughly enjoyed the TED talk! We really feel the nostalgia and just feels coming from a trip down memory lane there. Honestly, not the best for their exhaust now, but very prominent and also fairly turkey mortar for the side being a 2.4 ha ha plus the HKS. Definitely missed this car sometimes, even with the RB swap, although if I were to do it again, I will probably have just kept KA and went turbo. I’ll become a Toyota guy myself, but absolutely agree with you with the 240 having a special place!

Thankfully, FA warrantied it without a hassle and questioned initially possible install error but thankfully I had this video to show em haha. I’m thinking a random casting or manufacturing error or perhaps due to some evident rusting caused by having no way to torque down the top strut bolt properly and having to use a vice grip. They suggested me use some locktight this go around and has been good for nearly 8-10k miles now; otherwise, no other issues besides how stiff the rears are haha. Handle awesome tho!

    Sounds absolutely fantastic with the resonator, and I'm pretty sure this is what I'll end up buying. I feel like I've watched every "NB (insert name) muffler" video on KZread at this point, yet this is the only one that truly sounds good in my opinion. The stock Megan/Manzo/Malian axleback is just too loud and ricey, the Cobalt muffler seems to have QC issues and some sound like cheap eBay mufflers, the M2 performance muffler is far too quiet, etc (I'm forgetting the rest, I've been researching for hours on end). How much quieter is the car from the outside with the resonator? I want some noise and the deep tone, but I don't want it to be obnoxious even for old people. I've heard a few Megan/Manzo/Malian axlebacks from like 100ft away and they sound horrible, almost like a civic with a straight catback. Also, does it scrape on speed bumps? It looks super low

  • @dapetdetective
    @dapetdetective Жыл бұрын

    I appreciate the notes man! Thanks for watchin haha. I agree, lots of people go for the loud and it ends up being pretty raspy. Love what the resonator ended up doing - louder than stock but not much drone and not annoying haha. I would say it reduced sound by a good 30% or so, still loud enough to know you’ve pulled up to the gf/ bf’s house but not at all obnoxious! Also zero scrapes or anything on bumps, my stock bracing tends to hit before ever the exhaust anyways. I will say I had lots of side ways banging tho due to worn stock hangers so some poly ones solved that and sucked the tip up to the bumper nicely as well.

  • @nb8c_fd
    @nb8c_fd Жыл бұрын

    @@dapetdetective Sounds good man, thanks for the tip about the poly exhaust hangers, I'll grab some of those too. Does the muffler sit lower than the front bumper, or is it roughly similar? I plan to set-up my ride height to allow the front bumper to clear large speed bumps, which should still be low enough to have nice wheel fitment.

  • @dapetdetective
    @dapetdetective Жыл бұрын

    @@nb8c_fd no problems man! Let me know if you want more closer up pics. I do need to do an update video on the exhaust broken in and with the poly hangers as well. The tip sits literally a finger below the bumper, looks great and what I was after, a wee hit of scuffing on the bumper from the exhaust being hot and me hitting bumps on highway but very minimal and can’t see it. Funny usually the bumper’s alright and the chassis bracing hits before anything but if you have a bumper lip, it’ll scrape unless you keep it a finger ish height high. I’m running FM’s suggested height from my coilovers video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mI52udiin7K5e7g.html and rub a bit here and there and scrape on bumps if I don’t angle it right so definitely suggest an inch or two higher than that hahah. Exhaust wise those poly hangers will help, running FM’s, they specify for NB’s btw and usually need 4, one at the midpipe and 3 for axle back.

  • @nb8c_fd
    @nb8c_fd Жыл бұрын

    @@dapetdetective Yeah I'd love to see an update video on the exhaust. I plan to get MeisterR Sportive coilovers myself, and I'll likely run them at about 13" front and 13.5" front (some nasty bumps where I live, can't go too low). Are you running your VMaxxes at 12" and 12.5"? Do you find the exhaust tip to be the first thing to scrape even with the poly hangers, or is the chassis bracing still lower? Also to add to that, should I be concerned about the chassis bracing going rusty due to scrapes? Last question, what were the specs of those wheels you got for free? (Just for reference, struggling to decide on offsets)

    Sorry for the late reply man! So the fronts are 12”, rears at 12.5”. FM suggest deviating no more than 1/2” from there to not have any binding issues. Exhaust tip is actually the last thing to scrape for me since it’s angled upwards, the front and rear bracings are always the first to hit. As far as rusting goes just keep an eye on it from time to time but shouldn’t be bad, just coat with some spray paint or touch up if need-be. And the original wheels were 15x7 +30 if I remember correctly.

    A torch and heat will take that bolt off brother. Use a wet rag to keep the rubber boot from burning.

    I appreciate the input! I wish I had a torch on hand haha such a pain to fix it but got lucky enough to be able to! Been missing this car more lately for sure but also sometimes not! 😂
