The dead-row totally blew up my back. Started smashing PBs, got thicker and my legs got stronger. Having some deadlift action break the inertia of the heavy bar feels safer on my back than going from a dead hang leaning forward.

I lived close to Phil Heath when he was Mr olympia for years. He used to cone into my friends restaurant in Colorado, hes a large guy. Ive also run into Brian Shaw a couple times. When i tell you Brian makes a prime Phil Heath look like a small man, i know its hard to believe. Ive seen a few men taller than Brian, but i have NEVER seen a larger man in my 42 years than Brian Shaw. The first time i ran into Brian he was almost 500 pounds. He literally had a 200 pound weight advantage on PHIL HEATH. Let that sink in. I weigh 170 pounds. Myself and Phil Heath in his prime weighed LESS than Brian. And hes the nicest guy on the planet though hes capable of destroying anybody very easily.

Genuinely really like your channel but I find it pretty baffling why you don’t include Andy Bolton given he was literally the first person to deadlift 1,000. He did this twice (albeit in a DL suit) with a conventional stance and mixed grip, making his deadlifts still some of the most impressive feats ever. I know you say that people don’t care too much about grip on deadlift but it would surely be ignorant to say a 1,000 conventional deadlift without straps and hitching is not objectively more impressive than with. Also you seem to suggest that all 1,000 conventional deadlifts have only been done by strongmen, but AB (a powerlifter) set the standard and was looked up to by Hall and other later 1,000+ pullers. No disrespect intended, but I think AB deserves a shout out here.

There were actually on “steroids”. Compared to modern men they had a baseline of their testosterone and DHT that was triple or maybe even four fold. So yes, what is considered today as supra physiological was normal to them.

Can anyone explain to me what's going on here? How the fuck is it a bad idea to not injure yourself? That's time lost not just lifting but in living your life? It's so meandering and seemingly internally contradictory. This just sounds like the gymbro version of ranting about "tryhards" and nerds.l in online videogames. Like look here: 1) I don't want to injure myself because I've taken something to failure of technique. What a nice idea. 2) Cool now I can take reps in reserve before physical failure so it don't wreck myself when I need to actually lift as part of daily life as well. 3) Cool now I can deepen my range, gaining range of motion I never had before. You know, so I don't wreck myself with movement outside of a range that I'm used to. This is exactly what physical therapists and doctors would and do tell me. It's exactly what the entire medical profession would tell me. It's exactly what I am told when working on lifting heavy things as a matter of workplace safety. It's exactly what the RP guy videos say and those videos CONSTANTLY stress what it is you're looking for so you can get the move right for your own body and sensations that can be used as cues for coming close to injury. They're constantly talking about how not all lifts are even going to benefit everyone. But no, this video is just injure your back 15 times, fuck it go ham, RP is mindless robotic nerd shit and you do you but also I'm right they're wrong and you're a tryhard if you disagree. This seems so close to actively telling people to go self harm I'm tempted to report it to KZread.

So I’ve been doing what I call “Let em cook” reps. Take a weight that you can only do 8 reps with, do 8 reps and wait 30 seconds, then only do 3 reps but do them ridiculously slow. I promise you, if your chest isn’t burning from this, then you need to video yourself and see where your form is off. I’ve used this to take my 8 reps to 10-12 reps in a fairly quick amount of time. Then get to where I can do those 10-12 reps slow and controlled, I then move up in weight.

If the point of powerlifting is simply to find out who is the strongest, equipment and reducing rom seem to detract from the entire purpose

This helped me learn a lot. How many main strength lifts to focus on though? What if I want to build strength only on pressing movements (dips, incline bench), dead lift and weighted pull ups and just keep my lagging legs in hypertrophy rep ranges?

one question how the hell John Brzenk is most successful and powerful arm wrestler while other heavy weight wrestlers compare to him lose from a 104kg man. america is not the whole world, people around the world can be stronger, you are not any better than the rest of humans. people in pakistan eat natural organic food milk, mutton, almonds (desi ghee) salajeet and a lot of practice of lifting woods, bags full of wheat, rice, potatoes as hobby. i can share videos of 10 year old kids lifting 40kg to 70kg in pakistan and ofcourse a lot of them are Laborer as they work in food markets and do loading and unloading of stuff in trucks. this is why they get this much stronger, because its their daily job. just don't get jealous.
