Pull ups def helped improve my grip. Haven't focussed on just the finger tips. Will give it a go. I've seen on YT rock climbers use a narrow ledge (like the decorative moulding around a door frame) to just hang from their finger tips..those guys lb for lb have awsome grip!

Hangboarding works well for climbers because hanging off small edges is a big part of the sport. If you're not actually climbing or doing gripsport it's probably not the best way to train since it's a lot of isometric work in a position you'll never use. If you really want to, the look at doing no-hangs / edge lifts with weight on a loading pin rather than hanging overhead. It's way easier to scale up and down and it's less fuck around than adding weight via a harness.

Genes have alot to do with it. I was born with big forearms, both of my sons have huge forearms for their age 12-14. Now if you aren't blessed by genes you will have to build that from scratch. Just pick up insane weight and don't set it down, get a job in construction and push yourself past what you are expected to do. you will develop a body that others can't get. 8-12 hours of hard manual labor gets you there. once you build it all you have to do is maintain. I don't workout in a gym. If you want a nice workout while you sit in traffic, just grip the steering wheel as hard as you can and alternate hands when you get to failure, to it as long as your commute is, and you see development. dumb lil exercises like that can get you huge gains. Also have a heavy protein diet, you dont really need powders or suppliments just eat beef, goat, chicken and fish. you can switch it up, as much as you want pork is good to, eat the fatty meats, all that the human body needs.

Quick Tip: I always carry one of those “Grip Pro Trainers” around. They are these small silicone circles that come in different resistances. They fit for example into your coat pocket or in a bag that you carry on you or leave it in your car. Whenever I am waiting, walking, calling et cetera I just grab it and do a couple sets per arm every day. Over time this nonintrusive volume will add up and improve your forearms without having to make it a big part of your training. Hope this helps for you!

Most people have access to plates for pinching anyway but sledge levering you can to do with literally any long object that allows sliding lower to one end for worse leverage (e.g. straight lat bar, short barbell, heavy table leg...). Put some markers on for progresson and you can even do dropsets.

Forearms are my favourite. I use a cable to do behind back wrist curls, this gives you more stability and you can concentrate on contraction. Standing dumbbell wrist curls on the edge of a preacher bench. Behind back barbell holds for 3 sets of 30, 20 and 10 secs. Hammer curls, but lift your thumbs and index fingers off like your hands are pistols. This stresses the smaller muscle groups. Pronator teres, Flexor carpi radialis and palmaris longus. ( Yeah, I did google it 😄). Reverse curls but flex your wrist down at the bottom and up at the top, don't need much weight for this. And try not to use straps when training other body parts. My forearms have always lagged, but training them for 20 minutes 3 times a week using a variation of these exercises have really made a difference.

For people who want to develop forearms but dont want to spend time doing multiple exercises etc, honestly I believe that hammer curls or reverse curls will do great work, because the largest muscles in the forearms are the brachioradialis (which you don't even mention in this video) and the finger flexors, both of which are taxed heavily in these movements, and will fill out both sides of the forearm.

@@arepa83 no, I didn't mean to come off like a prick, but i can see how i did. I know armwreslters love their sport and want to spread the word (and its a cool part of strength culture) but the cost of participation is more than many lifters want to spend; since I speak to average lifters, I feel obligated to emphasize the trade off, both in hours and effort spent training and likely excruciating nerve pain that prevents pressing and squatting until the tendons adapt.

I used to have a really strong grip but now I have hand arthritis. I have basal thumb arthritis, I can't make a fist with my right hand because my fingers don't bend anymore and the middle finger on my left hand is in the beginning stages which means it still bends but hurts like hell. I'm a gym rat and love lifting but on pulling movements I have to use versa grips. Don't know what else I can do.

Arthritis is extremely easy to permanently beat. Just start taking Borax everyday. Yes, you read that correctly. For frame of reference you’ll need to get on alternative video sharing websites and type in “The Borax Conspiracy.” It’s roughly 54 minutes long and will change your life if you take it to heart and implement what you’ve learned.

@UniquelyUbiquitous-yg3xl I bought a flex bar and have been using that in conjunction with ulnar nerve exercises and 60 reps of light band tricep pull downs. But I'll definitely look into those. It seems like it doing what I'm doing works a little, but once I start diving back into easy lifts I can feel my grip and elbows not feeling quite right. I do a lot of city driving for my job as well so maybe that's playing a part into it.

Ok strange question here: I used to double overhand 315 for 5 or 6 reps on deadlift on a really nice olympic bar (this was about 3 years ago) I took a long hiatus in training and now I’m struggling to do RDLs with 185 for 8 reps with a Texas Power Olympic Barbell? Is it really possible my grip strength atrophied that much? Or is it the fact that this is a different barbell/time under tension while doing RDLs? Because I’m tracking that strength typically doesn’t atrophy more than 30% even over several years.

  • @user-he4ef9br7z

Both. Grip strength decays fast in my experience. Also RDLs require you to hold on longer.

Fat Grips on your rowing machine. You're welcome! Using a finger board is a great way to train the finger flexors. When you're training any kind of pulling movement, focus on keeping the knuckles forward or upward will engage the wrist flexors more.

I used the overhand grip when training my deadlift, only switching to the alternate grip when the weight I was lifting was too heavy for just double overhand. I never used straps. At my best I was able to deadlift 200kg (440lbs) with a double overhand grip. I had 17" forearms and 19-3/4" upper arms from that and other heavy pulling movements. I used to do pullups on a 2" thick bar. I was only 5' 7" tall, and weighed 273 pounds at my heaviest.

Realistically every-other-day so long as they feel like complete dogschitt when you lift. *Don’t forget that you need to hammer your extensor muscles as much as your flexors to stave off potential tendinitis. *High reps are magical for forearm exercises. Use a weight that lights that schitt on fire by rep 15, but keep pushin’ to over 40. This’ll be an ultimate Litmus Test on pain tolerance. *Put your wrists through extreme stretches in between sets to really force growth. Think of ways to stretch that you wouldn’t typically find your hands in. This additional ROM helps with growth. *Don’t forget that your forearms also supinate and pronate. You should ALWAYS do at least two sets of each when working forearms. *Don’t forget radial deviation and ulnar deviation. Same rules apply as with supination and pronation. You do all of this and your forearms will BLOWWWW the eff up!
