I had a black GT350 with gold stripes. Mine had a roll bar, surprised you did not mention that when showing the interior. Also the stripes on my had a more distinct edge. Kick myself for selling for a low price back in 1970.

The '66 Toranado did incorporate a futuristic "no vent windows, look" With GM, the Chevorlet Nova was the last car to have this window feature, after 1972 Chevorlet finally eliminated the "side-vent windows on the '73-'74 Novas and up....

The clicking noises was from the header -- just needed to be tightened. This car was sold at Barrett Jackson in Jan 2022.

Interesting video nice to see an original Shelby instead of a clone . Didn’t realise how standard they are inside , I have a 66 Fastback here in the UK and it’s exactly the same apart from the rev counter . No air con , no power steering but better access around the engine without extra pulleys, pipes and belts . Don’t know why Shelby replaced rear quarter vents for glass ? I can only assume it was so he could glance over his shoulder to see cars trying to overtake in a race , I don’t think it would be a weight saving modification. No one seems to know ! Chris

Great.looking car ! I'd love to have one in a deep blue sparkle and factory - installed air. But l would'nt drive it every day and no one else would get the keys. An accident w that classic would be hard to find replacement parts.

The manual choke cable was used on all 289 High Performance equipped (K code) Mustangs. Of course, this also included all of the Shelby GT350 Mustangs.

@@paulreed2138 According to page 13 of the 2019 1966 Shelby Registry and I quote, "Initially, all cars were equipped with the Holley 715 cfm carburetor with a hand-operated choke. Starting with chassis number 801, all GT-350s with an automatic transmission were equipped with the Autolite 4100, 600 cfm carburetor, also with hand-operated choke."

I was thinking of looking for decent one but from what i see on the FB Toronado group parts for them are VERY hard to find., i did see one that looked decent or better located in FL and he wanted $13,500.00, it was gold and the deluxe model. Yours externally looks like a twin to the one we had, after 67 they ruined the design in my opinion though the 70 was ok, my neighbor had a 70 GT.

I drove 1 for a year, built the 427 Cobras, so got to drive 1, street raced it, never got beat, wound it 7500 RPM, plugs only lasted 2000 miles, also got 4th in a gymcan with only race cars. Was a lot of fun!

*I had one for awhile that was 4-yrs. old when I got it...and man the bills were killing me!* *It went thru ball-joints the same way I eat Ritz crackers because the front-end would never stay in alignement and I needed front-tires in only a year and the front-end would oscillate over sixty even on smooth pavement* *It ran great...but it was just too much in repairs for me*

When you bought the over the counter 3 two barrel carb setup OR when you bought an over the counter "cobra dress up kit" for an engine you got those 2 emblems with it. When the dealer installed those kits they usually put those emblems on higher up on the fender ( just above where the 289 emblem would go on a regular mustang). I wonder if that car had a 3 2's set up on it in the past. Where did you get the fuel pump rebuilt?

One of the commenters said this used to be his grandfather’s car. He didn’t mention any mods other than the hurst linkage. I got the fuel pump rebuilt a long time ago probably 18-20 years. I’ve owned the car since about 1998. Thanks for the insight on the emblems.

transmission was put together for 66 toronado in 50's not for eldorado it was introduced in 67 year after tornado,first project prototype was created based on buick riviera!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This car makes my heart swoon!! My uncle had this cat, and my grand aunt had 66 Buick Riviera at the same time, but there was something extra special about the Olds Toronado. It was like an American version of James Bond's Aston Martin DB6.

Probably ditch the wife before the next build they only come for a look for five minutes every six months and fuck with your ideas, cool car and easily 200k spend good luck to anyone who could do better for less, to me the interior is the elephant in the room , there are plenty of Burgundy reds that would have been killer, next time i recond a 66 mustang stripped out race car , love Steve strodes martini mustang, stillthink ditch the wife, 😂

Why do you say that? I know these cars pretty well and I would say it's quite unlikely to be a fake from the details I saw. I would certainly need to look at the rearend and the rest of the car to confirm for sure but from what was shown it was all there. Evenly spaced bolts on the export brace and all. Someone added the alarm, changed out the shifter and put the over the counter tri power badges on it at some point. I kinda thought those Cragar made wheels were optional on 65 Shelby's only, but being such an early 66 car maybe they are correct?

My parents bought a new Tornado in 1967, I was 11 years old. My friends were impressed by the style of the car. Oh yes..it had Air Conditioning!

My dad was a designer with GM in the early 60s, he worked in Preliminary Design studio that worked up the concepts for this car. This design along with the Buick Riviera design of the same timeframe.

There is no gas at the carb until it starts. Modern gas evaporates when sitting so some of this is "as designed." There are plugs in the bottom of the carb that many rebuilders don't address. They should be epoxied so they don't leak. Other than that the fuel pump could be leaking gas into your oil when it sits. Its not an ignition problem, its a no fuel at the carburetor problem. My 69 GTO does this also. Its mostly normal. Just crank it continuously until the fuel can be pumped up to the carb.

Exactly, i just mentioned that to him, Quadrajets have been known to 'drain down' overnight so i suggested to check accelerator pump before starting to be sure there is gas in the carb which i really doubt there is, just because it's been 'rebuilt' doesn't mean it was done right, checking float level, etc. and the plugs in the bottom.

thanks so much for this video and info on your Shelby. i'm an old guy now and saw my first Shelby in the summer of '66 on Ft. Gordon Ga. military post but it had different wheels. it was only later that i found out thru photos that it was a '66. i was aware of these Shelby Mustangs in "65/66 due to reading sports car mags when i was in high school but never saw one until Ft. Gordon and i have never seen another in motion on a public street. i was always a Chevy guy in my youth but the early '65/'66 Shelbys were my dream car to own especially due to lighter weight of these cars and the 306 horse power engine. you are very fortunate to have one and i'm jealous. Ha.

375 hp chain drive, I owned the 66 Rivera. That was rear drive but also had 425 cubic inch, also drum speedo, could smoke the tires a block and a half with the poly glass tires, which suck in the snow.
