Fun Fact: the Fascist American Nazis held a Rally in Madison Square Garden in May 1939 and the KKK held a fully hooded Parade in Washington D.C while Republicans were fillbustering an anti lynching law and a child labor law. It ended when Congress suspended everything on September 1st 1939, when Hitler invaded Poland. Lousianna GOP Senator said on the Congress Floor RACISTLY "I stand for White Superiority and as long as I serve I will fight for White Superiority"

I think Charles might be playing a mkvi tenor here, the Trane sound is strong. For me he found his special voice with the old Conn and the Dukoff stubby. But this this music is strong too:)

The world should be more grateful for Michael for getting Charles out of retirement. Imagine all the classic records on ECM that would never have been released. His Athens Concert was LEGIT!

What makes this so beautiful is that after the opening cadenza, the music could have become anything. A complex, nuanced jazz piece…but life happened. And every so often it can be beautiful

I loved this post! The pianist was excellent but I prefer the same group with Keith Jarrett. I always enjoyed Cecil McBee’s sonorous bass solos. I am surprised that he has not gotten more recognition than he has. All of the other members of that group, Charles Lloyd Group, from the late 60s-early 70s are highly regarded masters to this day.

In addition to being a very overrated jazzman, Lloyd is the other of totally stupid and laughable quotes such as this one: ''Women are as connected to music as women are to Africa. Women are all connected to the land and music is connected to the land. The drums come from Africa and have supernatural powers. Women and drums must be respected. I'm a shaman, I go out into nature, I talk to the trees and plants'' or ''I am a shaman, I go out into nature, I talk to the trees and plants'' ....LOL!

No such quotes can be found using Google at least. Maybe you have a printed source. Well, he was a hippie back in the day, after all. Now, he might be the closest thing we have to Coltrane if he didn't pass away at forty.

@@migmarfin french radio during a live concert in 2005. Don't care bout Trane and if you read Lewis Potter book about late trane projects (adapt yoruba songs and open a children school), you will see that your opinion is false.
