I have been working with wood since I could stumble into the shop with my dad. Several years ago, I moved into a house without space for a full shop, so I decided to take up all hand tool woodworking. That started a whole new passion for wood. Now I feel as though I am learning the art all over again.
My Joy and desire is to share this passion for hand-tool woodworking with everyone I can. So come along for the fun of learning the ancient and new art of Hand tool woodworking!

Awesome scrub plane :) I am a novice and hold the flat back of the marking knife to the square with most of the edge of the marking knife to the wood. Since you use more of the point, is this from experience with using a minimal amount of the blade edge or for another reason?
thanks
Truly amazing work 👍👍
Nice editing skill~~ Like the no words/musical build~~
That is what this channel is all about. The other channel is the how to channel where I do the talking. If there is a video here there is a matching one there with teaching.
That is a beautiful plane, James. In fact, I think I can say without fear of contradiction that plane may be the most beautiful scrubber that I have ever seen.
Truly amazing work, James! Really well done! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks for sharing that! it is far beyond my skills!
Awesome

Hi, what a beautiful plane, someday I will make mine, what radius did you give to the blade and what angle did you give to the bevel? I am restoring a Stanley no.40 and it has a straight blade and I want to leave it curved, greetings from the end of the world, Santiago de Chile
for the radius I like the corners to be 1/8" back so I set the dividers so they touch the middle at the tip and the sides back about 1/8"
Beautiful!
i thought a scrub plane was a Boeing (737/747).... after all the doors blown off, or the engines catch fire, or.....
Hey, we already lost 2 good man. Stop this sh*t before we lose you as well. 😬
Rosewood?
Bolivian Rosewood is a sustainable cousin to the Brazilian rosewood that is controlled.
can you do a video of this and make it into a paste?
ion that case you use oil rather then wax. I am not a fan of that though. it just makes a mess and does not work as well. but some people like it.
The flattned dowel is called a fipple
This whistle would make any kids day, and a great looking apron would make any wood workers Father’s Day.
Most spokeshaves have a very open throat. If you have a piece of wood prone to tearing, try putting a shim under the blade between it and the body. The shim is cut into shape so it coves the whole of the area that the blade contacts the body, and must be kept flat. This has the effect of raising the blade and gives a tighter throat. I have one that I keep permanently set up like this.
How about when the Dado is 18 inches long
Same process.
Thanks
Very nice. Another tool to add to your collection.
Best video I’ve seen all year. Could sleep with all the hand tools going on.
It's worth pointing out that the best iron is the one you have installed in your plane.
True craftsman
Needed this! I’m gonna go drill some holes now.
Just what I needed. I was handed down a set of special gouges and chisels. I need to sharpen them more, they're about 150 grit sharp now, but I meant to find one of these demonstrations.
I know this is an "old" video, but I just found your channel a couple of months ago (it's great). The takeaway in this video was the chisels. I have a French cleat wall with a chisel holder I thought would be cool, but the design (not mine) just isn't good. Chisels are all blade up with various sized openings to accept them with spacing inline. Yeah, it's cool if you use one chisel once or twice per year. Your chisel holder is better.
at 6:45 do you really have to plane your plane? … is it not cannibalism?
Thanks for the video! I'm so excited for my tree adventure!!!
love the old school
beautiful table. Even more so seeing it built using jus hand tools. No power joiner, planer, or a fancy machine to cut a design, just a hand chisel. Toward the end, before you brought the table in the house, I was thinking you'd need some extra muscle. That table has to be quite heavy.
thanks. the whole table is around 600lb
Wow! An American using only handtools! Fantastic skills. You must be fans of PAUL SELLERS..... Thanks. That was really good to watch.😮
Around 60% of Paul's and my audiences are from America, 20% from the UK, and 15% from Canada. There is a huge upswing in handtool use right now as a lot of programers and commuters want to come home in the evening and actually build something with their hands.
Thank you Sir.🎉
As a cabinet maker in England, I always heard these being called Dodgers, great for getting old polish off of old tables etc. This was about 50 years ago.
you could use a Sweet Lips pliers (soft jaws)
I have a soft jaw pair but some times they don't work as well

Bella señora 💐💐💐
Loved this video, James.
Neat :)
Thanks for sharing that! beautiful tool!
Also, brace yourself. That isn't a plane. 🤣
She really does look pretty. I'm looking forward to seeing you put a ring on her in a future video.
Hi, James! Your collection of tools is impressive. And I see that you are constantly replenishing it with new copies. When you are quite old, you can open a carpentry museum. Good luck Viking! :-)
Amazing looking tool, James! Great work! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
She's a fine barn, English, but she's no plane.
I cringed when you took the bare players to the brass. I have a pair of pliers and channel locks that I put heat shrink on to prevent marring soft surfaces.
I have a pair that have hot glue on them that usually work really well but in this case they weren't enough so I had to go with the light grip of metal.
I came to state the same. In the other channel it's right.
Wish they still made beautiful tools like this.
