Great job James. I'm also moving so watching you re-install the tool wall is a great help. Thank you. I am really sorry you were left unsupervised.
Great practical project, and beautifully made. I see that you have more planes than the air force, and more files than the national archive. I hope my hand tool collection will one day be as large (and that I will know how to use them all). Thanks for sharing your knowledge - and your dad-jokes!
Nice piece! I made something quite similar to this but for the hall bath. Mine added two sliding doors to the front so that it holds and hides toilet paper rolls and such. I happen not to have used glued up panels and ripped the doors from the same width I used for the 'box'. I can see where you might not want doors because of the speed of access. On the other hand, there is something to say for some tidiness. I also made it out of red oak and iron stained the left and right verticals and did it separately from the horizontals so that the dovetail pins and tails were oiled/stained alternating.
Nice James, I would have done the same before looking at the finished product with tool rolls in place, especially the one rolled out on top. After seeing it however, I think it might benefit from a slight downward slope to the shelves. That would give a little more room for tools to sit while maintaining the same depth, provide a little less chance to bump into protruding rolls and a bit more purchase to keep the expanded roll from sliding when you pull anything out of it. Just one of those thoughts that are wonderful to hear after a project is already done.
Great looking shelf.
Very nice James! You really boxed in your tool rolls! I need to try hand cut dovetails someday.
Thanks
Thanks for sharing that!
Perfect. Don't add a thing.
It looks wonderful, James! Nicely done! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Nice!
You might want to consider crafting wooden brackets to suspend it, especially after watching you painstakingly hand-cut dovetails, only to discover a couple of metal brackets later on.
