Was hoping to drop my warrant packet for the deadline to WORC on 15 July, but medical has hindered me by taking 3 months to schedule my phase 2 for my physical. So now instead of hitting the board on Sep, I have to hit the next board, and it's disappointing. Soon, though and I'll be up there and chasing my dreams to be an aviator

Congratulations!! You'll love being a Warrant. In 1987, I started WOEC (Warrant Officer Entry Course at the time). Moved on after 10 years, but would do it all over again. Enjoy and relish it. It has led to a 38 year career as a pilot, 20 years helicopters, and 18 years fixed wing. I'm now flying Citation CJ3 light jets for Wheels Up. Again, thanks for a great video. For those of you considering becoming a Warrant, it was much more like joining a fraternity of professionals than a rank structure. No saluting among Warrants, always calling each other by our first names. Go for it. You will not regret the decision.

Good morning Marine. Adding a bit of perspective from age/experience here. Flunked out of engineering school in 1956 and lost my student deferment. Korean War fraternity brother, USMC, put his arm around me and told me I was going to enlist in the Corps. I did - Senior DI called me a draft dodger, and he was correct - 2 yr Active MC Reserve at that time. Ended up w/ 2nd MAW Cherry Point as radio repairman after switching from 2 yr reserve, to 3 yr regular MC. Marine Corps treated me well my entire 3 years, even though my enlistment originated primarily from a desire to get my draft obligation out of the way, not because I wanted to become a Marine. I served conscientiously wherever the Corps sent me - Atsugi Japan, Formosa in '58, Quantico. Served with a lot of good Marines, and was glad I had chosen the Corps. After I left active duty, went to work in the Defense industry and eventually got my engineering degree. At 89 I've seen a lot of changes - Not only in society, but the military. I fully agree with your assessment about the Corps. Marines have to be versatile, adaptive - I wish you every success in aviation - There is a need for a lot of good pilots today - Not just in the military, but the commercial sector as well.

Hey, all. Completely new to military life and the ins-and-outs. Never been in, but looking to join. I recently left pharmacy school to become an aviator. It’s my true passion. I’ve always wanted to fly and figured it would be something I would do in the future after retiring or something, but I’ve been influenced by my girlfriend’s family. 2 commercial pilots, her dad was in AF for 40 years and was a flight engineer. Her brother is training on the F-35 soon. All of them have influenced my path and opened my eyes to realizing my potential of following my passion. Still unsure of which branch to go through and I know I may need a medical waver for an arrhythmia that has since been taken care of surgically, but I still believe in myself against the odds. Luckily my cardiologist is a flight surgeon at Luke AFB and he’s said I’ll be good to go. I’ll be following you for advice. Best of luck.

I flew with Marine CH-46 pilots as a contractor in Afghanistan. The State Department procured about 10 CH-46's and we needed pilots, keep in mind that these are former Marine aviators. Those guys were the absolute worst, whinny, back stabbing, complaining, morons for the most part. I haven't seen so much drama outside of the TV show, Housewives. Me and all the other former Army pilots hated dealing with those clowns. Now all of the crew dogs were outstanding, but the pilots made Biden look like a genius.

I paid for all of my training from student loans so I know this isn’t the typical route to military, but essentially I want to only fly in the military, I don’t really want to get stuck doing something else because I already went through all this training when I could’ve just went to the airlines. Ive been all over the warrant recruiting website and I understand the required waivers and other packet requirements. Dealing with enlisted recruiters is difficult and most of them dont want to deal with warrant officer packets. Or they simply dont know. Im at Fort Bragg (now Liberty). I'm a retired CW3, and I applied for Warrant Officer flight starting in my 7th year (25 years old) from 1990 - 1994 when I was an enlisted soldier. It's the only thing I ever wanted to do. I had a stellar career up to the point when I started applying for flight school. When I first applied in 1990 I had a 130 GT score, multiple 300 PT test scores, Excellent NCOER'S, Pass my flight physical with flying colors, the flight test scores were different back then, but I scored a 123 (which I was always told was a very good score), I was interviewed by senior aviation warrant officers for my recommendation letter, and I felt very confident that I would be selected. But unfortunately for 4 consecutive years, I was fully qualified "not selected", a total of 4 times. For the life of me I could not understand why I was passed over and never selected?? Still to this day some 30+ years later, I still don't know. I remember being hurt and so disappointed every time the board results came out and I was passed over. I ended up applying for warrant officer in my military intelligence field and got selected my first board. I remember being at Ft Rucker going through training and talking to some of the individuals who were going to flight school after the warrant basic course and I just couldn't believe some of the people that were selected to go to flight school. That made my multiple times applying even worse mentally, but at the end of the day I still became a Warrant and did very well for the Army and my country, but it still stings every time I see a UH-60 flying overhead, and I often say, that should have been me.

Btw congrats on getting selected as an “old man.” Where are you in the training pipeline at the moment? I was Marine Corps ROTC and “guaranteed” aviation until I turned 28 then all of a sudden I was “too old.” One foot in the grave at 28 lol… If I had made Naval Aviator my callsign would have surely been “Gramps.” I would have gladly taken it. Given their retention rates across the board, they will probably up the age limit again within the next few years. Air Force studies have shown that older guys are more competent pilots anyway.

May not be military but it’s still in service to this country. Check out FBI (mostly helos), DEA (only require a PPL) and the CIA (lots of cool, spooky shit). Currently have an open application for pilot to the CIA but typically takes 1-2 years to hear back if they want you.

What’s up guys, Alex here. Current civilian commercial pilot working on my CFI eventual ATP. Grandaddy was a fighter pilot, flew F-86 in Korea, F-4 Phantom over Vietnam, B-52 and KC-10 instructor, uncle was a C-130 navigator for Desert Storm then went to Pentagon after making Colonel. I was all set up for Naval Aviation in 2021 (aced the OAR, ASTB, all LORs from military pilots) Covid screwed me and put me over the age limit. Considering Army aviation if I can get fixed wing (Have lots of rotorcraft experience but not a helicopter guy), during my trials I found the NOAA (Hurricane Hunters), all fixed wing. They fly Twin Otters, King Airs, have a Gulfstream G-IV and two P-3s, switching to C-130s soon. It’s the smallest of the uniformed services so hard to get selected but NO AGE LIMIT!! Already have a degree but just finished another year of additional college for environmental science as they require no less than 48 STEM credits. Going to put in an application after I earn around 1,000 hours to make myself competitive as they have a good amount of prior service aviators to compete with. If any of you have a degree, 48 STEM creds and don’t mind flying into hurricanes, may want to check them out.
