    Before this video, my life was in the toilet. I had mounting debt, from paying so called "professional frog coaches", my marriage was falling apart ("all you think about is those damned frogs!" She was right) and my career prospects were seriously hampered by my constant watercooler discussions about "jump timing breakpoints" and "rotational vector theory". Today i am a new man, and i will live my life as it ought to be lived.

    Dude again, super cool video! I like that you're going chronologically with the in-game music, so many little arrangements and tracks that are absent from the soundtrack and now I get to give a proper listen with added analysis! These videos aren't setting the world on fire the way my FFXVI video (well by my low standards, lol), so I haven't decided yet if I want to lock myself into a series that would likely take... a hundred episodes! But maybe! They are a lot of fun to make, so I'm not complaining either. I'll see where things are at once I'm done chapter 1 :)

    I have no words...... I began to accept that the excellence and sublimity of ffxvi music are lost on people. I had been desperately searching for YT vids that discuss the topic in-depth but to no avail (until now). I'm a person who is deeply affected by music, and when 'Ascension' came on during the throes of the battle against one maddened Bahamut, i was completely swept away by the aesthetic perfection of the music, the plot, and the visual, which had come together to create a singularly unforgettable moment in storytelling. This may sound cheesy, but that moment in gaming and the track changed my life. I might get an FF16 bahamut tattoo just because of that 😂 And now Rising Tide is out, please do 'Cascade'!

    28:44 Actually, there is an easily missed theme from a previous game. In the scene in FFXVI, when Ultima speaks directly to Barnabas after the the Bahamut battle, there's a reference to an FFXIV dungeon theme. The song that plays during that scene, "The Final Temptation," features a slowed piano motif, that borrows notes from Sunken Temple of Quan's theme: "Echoes of Ages Past" kzread.info/dash/bejne/k4110sWcedrTZs4.html. Within FFXIV's lore, The Temple of Quan is part of an ancient city-state called Belah'dia. It is the a precursor to two city-states: Ul'dah and Sil'dah. I have two guesses why they choose that motif for that scene: 1st, to highlight the fact Ultima predates humanity, like how Belah'dia predated Ul'dah and Sil'dah. 2nd, which is more likely, because of the moment Ultima transforms into Barnabas' mother to let him see her again, which is fitting because the motif came from a song titled "Echoes of Ages Past."

    For you wondering why Ishikawa was the sole composer on the Dominion tracks: it's possible Soken didn't work on them because he was at the hospital for cancer during that time. Hard to tell when those 16 tracks where composed, but we know his hospitalization coincided with the development of ff14's 5.3 patch.

  • @patrickrainville
    @patrickrainville3 ай бұрын

    Oh that's a very good point. That could very well be the case!

  • @OracleGrouse
    @OracleGrouse3 ай бұрын

    @@patrickrainville And for Soken using a lot of synthetized instruments: I may be wrong, but Soken tends to write the music much later down the pipeline than other composers. He prefers to see what the encounters will be like so he can adapt and time the music according to the rhythm of the fight, key events in encounters, etc. (iirc he once mentioned being bummed out that he should have seen the 14 Ifrit fight before composing because the theme would have been more fitting if he did) Which leaves very little time for an orchestra to practice before recording. Hence why he saves live instruments for soloists

  • @patrickrainville
    @patrickrainville3 ай бұрын

    @@OracleGrouse Thanks for sharing! Yes I'd read similar rational from Soken re: his use of sample libraries. I think that's pretty logical reasoning. It's not how I would budget my time if I was music director because I think the end product suffers for it... but then again, I'm not Soken!

    Superbe, j'aurais préféré un peu plus de subjectivité mais c'est très bien quand même ! Je vais écouter les deux autres. J'ai remarqué une inspiration provenant de allegro moderato de Tchaïkovski ( ~9 minutes) pour le premier leitmotiv de ultima, tu en penses quoi ? ( Tout le monde s'inspire, d'ailleurs je suis sur que cette composition a aussi influencé John Williams pour leia's theme.)

    Merci beaucoup pour le commentaire! En effet, je n'ai jamais fait la connection entre ce morceau par Tchaikovsky et cette parti d'Ultima, mais je l'entend, oui. Belle découverte! I really can't decide if this is my favorite video you did or not. I absolutely *adore* the analysis you for this, probably because the og FF themes make me so emotional. Fighting Fate especially gives me goosebumps and immense feelings, both b/c of its usage/throwback to the og FF main theme and also because of the scene itself. And especially because you used footage with the Japanese subtitles, reading Joshua and Clive's dialogue alongside the music clip really got to me. And ofc Bloodlines, where Clive finally gets angry at his mother for throwing them away T_T ohh the music really drives the tragedy of everything home. Your final comments about Torgal were LOL chefs kiss, but including that brutal scene of ifrit and phoenix and clive screaming stop was cruel T_T SOBBING AND THEN CLIVE CRYING AND HUGGING JOSHUA? I'm so sad now, thanks (definitely looking forward DLC music video(s) if you make them!!)

    Thank you, again, so much for watching all three videos and commenting on all three!!! It means a lot to me and my microscopic KZread channel 🙇‍♂️ I'm glad you appreciate the Japanese subtitled footage! One of the ways I justify making these videos is that it is good language practice for me, as a budding learner. それも、よかったですね! Yeah, that scene of Clive embracing Ifrit is... so sad. so good. With the Rising Tide DLC out this month, I'm starting to plan ahead to the final DLC music analysis video. However, since there is no release date for the soundtrack itself - and therefore no detailed music credits - the identities of the arrangers would just be guesswork on my part, which would break the format a bit that I've established in the first three videos. So right now I'm debating whether to wait for the official soundtrack release or not before making that video... TBD!
