I can't believe this video doesn't have more views; I had to watch this twice to really appreciate all the things you called out about the location themes! I'm partial to Ascension and Bahamut, so naturally, I was super 👀at the Crystalline Dominion section. I honestly never noticed a lot of things you mentioned here, but now that you've pointed them now, I'm firing up my game for another playthrough to really enjoy it. I also love love love the work you put into calling attention to all the arrangers! They deserve more credit and appreciation (I appreciated your call out about SE being notoriously bad at crediting arrangers in part 3 lolol)

Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed Part 2. :) Yeah, so much of each arranger's styles and musical personalities come through in their arrangements. I love trying to pick out their tells. Similarly, if you are a Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth fan, I am currently doing an analysis going through Rebirth's songs in order of appearance as I try to guess who the arrangers are. Give it a shot, if interested!

Once I find a way to do that series justice 🙏

For you wondering why Ishikawa was the sole composer on the Dominion tracks: it's possible Soken didn't work on them because he was at the hospital for cancer during that time. Hard to tell when those 16 tracks where composed, but we know his hospitalization coincided with the development of ff14's 5.3 patch.

@@patrickrainville And for Soken using a lot of synthetized instruments: I may be wrong, but Soken tends to write the music much later down the pipeline than other composers. He prefers to see what the encounters will be like so he can adapt and time the music according to the rhythm of the fight, key events in encounters, etc. (iirc he once mentioned being bummed out that he should have seen the 14 Ifrit fight before composing because the theme would have been more fitting if he did) Which leaves very little time for an orchestra to practice before recording. Hence why he saves live instruments for soloists

@@OracleGrouse Thanks for sharing! Yes I'd read similar rational from Soken re: his use of sample libraries. I think that's pretty logical reasoning. It's not how I would budget my time if I was music director because I think the end product suffers for it... but then again, I'm not Soken!

i love the theories of the strange flute and trumpet in the sanbreque theme. my first thought is that it shows an inherent weakness and vulnerability of what i assume is a regime relying on what is essentially an outside power in the mother crystal. awesome video as usual : )))

i just have to say, i am in love with these videos, i watched them back to back and im in love. i catched most of the motifs from the characters themes while playing/replaying/watching others play, but with the locations so many flied over my head. it's fascinating also, if i have to guess what character theme you didn't include in the first one, uh, that's really hard. I don't think any other character has a theme per se? but I'm gonna go with Torgal. During the return to rosaria, the song that plays when he saves Jill isn't used anywhere else and it's completely unique as well, i think? but i am not sure at all. Looking forward to the third video! Thank you so much for making these❤

Oh this is a great response, and arguably much better than the one I was thinking about lmao It was a major oversight on my part not to include that one in either the character or location videos (I considered it for the section on unique themes in my Part 3 video, but decided against it since it isn't one of my faves). Unfortunately I JUST posted my Part 3 video, so alas, I can't give you a shoutout for your superlative answer. If I make a video covering the DLC tracks down the line, I'll try to remember to rectify that mistake 🙇

I want to do the Xenoblade trilogy justice and as of now haven't really found what my angle is beyond "this is the greatest video game music", so I would like to take some time to figure out what exactly I can contribute that would be educational and does right by those scores.
