    Why should people accept other people's illusions, they don't accept the majorities obvious reality? Women deserve their identity not to be borrowed, pinched or marginalised by psychological hang ups?

    The metaphor didn't "go bad" Bad writers stopped actually using a metaphor to make us think about our own views; why we held them and the greater ramifications of them, or if we might change them - and just went straight to preaching.

    I thought the "world without roads" thing meant "world without predetermined roles for people", like the roads being a confining box you have to fit in, like gender roles

    Someone on tumblr pointed this out, but the X-Men actually work best in a shared with other superheroes who aren’t Mutants, other superheroes whose powers are just as dangerous as the Mutants’ yet who don’t face any of the discrimination that Mutants do. Because that makes racism directed at the X-Men and Mutants completely irrational, just like in real life. But even if we ignore this aspect of the universe that the X-Men inhabit, I think it’s worth bringing up that the measures the governments of earth cook up to oppress Mutants are oftentimes just as dangerous as, if not more dangerous than, the Mutants themselves. Forget getting hit by laser beams, I’d be more worried about a Sentinel stepping on me while carrying out a routine Mutant arrest.

    Back again to argue in the defense of the current genderfluid flag: its not mirrored across the center, but its opposite! The magenta in the center is a mix of the purple and the pink on the opposite sides, and the black and white are opposites on either side as well. The blue and the pink, representing feminine and masculine gender, are on absolute opposite sides, much like how feminine and masculine are considered to be far sides of a spectrum. Similarly, magenta represents a combination or in-between of feminine and masculine, which is why its in the middle color and placement wise, as you alluded to in the video. The black and white also lie between the far sides of the feminine-masculine color spectrum, but not in the middle, because they represent the absence or what lies outside the false dichotomy of masculine and feminine. In theory these colors could change position and carry the same meaning, but not without sacrificing the opposite color sides. The shades of the colors aren't great, but I personally really enjoy their placement and meaning! I am genderfluid, though, so I might be biased...

  • @churchyg9199
    @churchyg9199Ай бұрын

    Forgot to mention: white and black also, in a manner of speaking, lie outside the color spectrum, just like the gender expression they represent... the genderfluid flag is not the prettiest, but a lot of thought clearly went into its design!

    Cars are a means of transportation, a means of escape. They represent freedom. Five characters become cars; utena, wakaba, shiori, and kozue. Well OK, technically 6 if you consider the castle/school as Akio.

    I’ve just recently finished Cherry magic, which is such an amazing anime! It is based around two 30 year old male Office workers ( one of which can read minds through touch) as far as I remember cherry magic falls into all the categories that needed to be on this list. The only thing is that there is another couple ( not the main couple) who have an age gap of about 7 years( both are adults and out of college) but that would be the only thing. I loved this anime and wish there were more episodes.

    I’m pretty sure X-men is showing the way society wants to deal with mutants is wrong. Not that mutants can’t be dangerous. The REACTION to them by society is the metaphor.

    i have a little comment to add about the genderfluid flag - while i do kind of agree that something about the colors is off, i honestly dont think reordering them works with the flag concept, the purple is supposed to symbolize a meeting of masculine and feminine, thats why its in the middle. honestly the order of the colors is probably more important to the design of the flag than the shades are, so it could be better to just switch the shades to be more cohesive with eachother

    I like the observations, they seem pretty well thought. Since the series is essentially a coming of age story, I've always liked to think of the cars as symbolic for "Adulthood's promise of freedom and independence." The whole reason Akio seemed so cool and temptuous to most of the characters is because he's this cool adult with all the freedom teenagers envy and he uses that to manipulate them. When Utena transformed into a car, it was because she was Anthy's path to freedom and independence, genuine this time. Just as Utena became the Prince that End of the World pretended to be when he saved her from the coffin, she became a true symbol and messenger of freedom to Anthy.

    I was gonna watch but I haven't seen enough Doctor Who and I don't want spoilers. I'm still on the first doctor in the 60s. But I will say, supernatural just gets worse and worse as it goes and I feel like I could do a whole video essay on the decline of it. I don't want to deal with it so I'm looking for someone else who gets it.

    "If you were a woman I'd kiss you/f*ck you" is such an old-fashioned bisexual mood. Like, if you don't know about the term bisexuality, it makes total sense to put it that way to yourself.

    I like seeing that a Western mindset is trying to rationally decode an eastern imgaination and fails! It is not working like that. To people of the east including middle east the whole world is connteted. everything is related to everything in a complex manner: a passing breez may be sing of a the birth of a hero for example. to decode eastern's imagination you should see the whole not details.

    Some scholars say that the portrait is not Marlowe, but Robert Greene.

  • @boogiesmell5181
    @boogiesmell51812 ай бұрын

    I hope not, as Greene was one of the most vocal and shameless critics of his peers and doesn't seem like he was a very pleasant person at all. He played his part in the downfall and undoing of Marlowe. I hate the idea that his face would now be generally known as the face of Kit Marlowe... no I don't buy into this at all, not without credible proof, which we will never have (either way).

  • @boogiesmell5181
    @boogiesmell51812 ай бұрын

    I looked into this, and it's 100% not a portrait of Robert Greene. Don't know who told you it was even a possibility. The portrait was discovered in 1953 at Corpus Christi University in Canterbury, which Marlowe had attended. Marlowe was a student there from 1580-87. The painting carries an inscription which suggests the sitter is 21, and that the year was 1585. Marlowe was born 1564. Greene was born 1558. Case closed.

    If Rian Johnsson were have left Kylo to be a villain, so Kylo Ren would be "decent" but because Rian Johnsson didn't follow the previous movie everything feels so lazzy written and improvise around his character, even his "romance" with Rey felt so out of character from her part, why Rey started to feel sorry for Kylo Ren? When their first interaction of both it was him trying to kidnapped her and almost killed one of her friends, for not mention the way Kylo killed Han Solo in front of her. If Rey had met previous Kylo, well ,it had made sense that she wanted to save him. But here is the thing, Rey doesn't know Kylo, all she knew about him is the fact that he's the son of Leia and Han and he was one of the responsaible that Luke's academy fallen. Out of this, there's nothing.. I don't understand people who claims that Kylo Ren is the only "good character" in this trilogy when the character is contradictory, lazzy written along with a bad redemption.

    The car thing could also be a metaphor taken literally. The reality bubble the characters are trapped in is created by the abusive relationship between Anthy and her brother. Utena literally becomes the Vehicle with which Anthy can escape this toxic relationship. You could also argue the car, at least when Utena and Anthy are concerned, is a metaphor for Adulthood. Anthy, before she is able to escape, is trapped by continous tracks that begin to grind Utena down and an apparition of her brother taunting her and telling her to go back. She decides to act like an adult and face the world head on, intending to shoulder the consequences of her decision of leaving the bubble, in which every decision was done for her without her input...before Utena arrived

    I think Dios is the super ego the conscience, that the Patriarchy and the system forced out of Akio. Notice most of those people with the swords are men. And Why did they have swords if all they were going to beg the prince to save their daughters? They were gonna kill Dios for not doing what they should have done. What they want to do. Reach out to their daughters and help them from their loneliness and pain. Not save but help. Again is saving has to be romantic then no saving but at with helping shows that you're there and care. But the patriarchy sees all emotions that aren't anger as bad so being compassionate doesn't work That's all Dios did. He showed Utena Anthy. Her suffering that he couldn't fix because he's going to be one of those swords that impale her. He reached out to Utena so she could reach. t the prince can't help a princess but only save. Leaving the princess dependent on the prince.
