    I F'd up big. Once I did the dohicky upgrade I did not do any periodically adjustments. I just rebuilt another Gen 1 and used alot parts off this 1st Gen 1. They look exactly the same. I am doing the Dohicky and sub frame bolts next week. I will be doing videos for that. In August I'm riding from Riverside Ca to the Artic Circle via the AlCan Hwy and Dalton Hwy.

    Very nostalgic. Brings back those memories of trying to rent the latest movie releases on VHS. "Be Kind, Rewind" was one of theor slogans. Never been to Bend, Ore. hopefully get there one day. Have an old friend that has been living in Bend for decades. The Suzuki is a very cool, retro looking, bike. Has a very nice sound to it. Must be gratifying to adjust and repair the bikes. Safe travels.

What's funny is my cousin and his family were in Bend last week visiting nearby national parks and I asked him if they visited BB and he didn't know the last one existed there! Doesn't surprise me the majority of their sales are from merchandise. Awesome you got to go

    Famous car guy Scotty Kilmer says oil is cheap, engines are expensive. The first time I changed the oil on my Kawasaki 400 Twin, I missed the clean oil in the window, added an extra quart, mentioned it to my dad, drained off the extra, and, learned a valuable lesson. I was 17. I wasn't kidding when I told you last Saturday how incompetent with tools I am 😅. Edit: I rode my dad's Bonnie, it was such a nice riding bike with a tremendous exhaust note

    I have covered over 30K miles on a Gen 1 and most those miles I was loaded like this of more to include a round trip on Route 66 and the Mojave BDR. Never had an issue, never bothered me. I trim down some items but people are very quick to say something about my load, but guess who they come to when they forget something or need a repair. I prefer solo trips, but next time someone needs something after saying how light they can travel I will tell them "Too Bad, carry it with you next time". But seriously, I have done all my long trips (4-20 days) on my own with all my crap and I love every minute of it.

    I'd say mid 70's to mid 90's. They wouldn't keep you warm and would need a mid layer lower than 60 degrees. Hot weather up to 90 would be okay but they don't vent as well as Mojave or Dakar. I will be using them on day trips in Southern California but for camping and long multi day rides I will go to the Mojave pant and layer up when needed

    Honestly? For me these bikes represent a whole bunch of memories some are good and some are not so much. However these bikes are complete garbage compare to what we have now. the technology on this bike is pre WW2 BMW R50 era. Ural is very lazy with design since in soviet they never had any competition. Yes it works off road and yes it works up to 60MPH anything outside of that its undrivable.

    Years ago, my brother and I stopped at Roy's. Seems to me Roy's was not in business, at least it wasn't open. The restrooms were open (outside access, like old gas stations), and it was my first experience with a pay toilet. Not having a dime, I shamelessly crawled under the stall door. I love stopping at Roy's, and at least buy a soda or something. Mother Road fans need to support places like Roy's. Edit: I think the motel office is in a "Mid Modern" style.

    Let me add one bit of advice about buying gas in Needles. Either buy gas at I-40/AZ-95 (the turnoff for Lake Havasu), or, if in Needles, cross over the bridge by the golf course, drive about a mile, and there's an ARCO and a Tribal gas station across the street from each other. The reason gas is so expensive in Needles is that California formulated gas is sold, and it's trucked in from somewhere in the Inland Empire. I grew up in the East Bay, and remember the multiple smog alert days every summer, until the increased smog standards and reformulated gas. I grumble on my vlogs about the cost, but it is nice to not be able to cut the air with a knife.

    I've seen on social media that in Valentine, a restored 66 station is now an open restaurant. For your subscribers who may not know, Peach Springs is the capital of the Sovereign Hualapai Nation, and in my experience, you dont pay state/federal gas taxes on fuel purchased on the rez. Sales tax as well. I've not eaten at the Wagon Wheel in Needles, but I've seen positive comments about the place. As always...

    My biggest fear with hard panniers is, that in case I drop the bike, the whole wight of it will crush panniers. While soft ones will survive. Though I don't know about leg protection by hard or soft ones. I'm NOT driving off-road, just talking about parking tip over or something at slow speed.

  • @adventurevin7600
    @adventurevin7600Ай бұрын

    I have a set of both and have dropped the bike on amd off road at slow speeds. Each has its purpose. Hard ones make it a bit easier to pick up the bike because it keeps the bike a bit off the ground. I am running soft ones more often because they have better cargo options. I'd say soft is safer and hard are more convenient.
