Hi! I'm known as Elewys of Finchingefeld in the SCA (aka Karen, in real life...yeah, I know...I'm not THAT kind of Karen) and I have dabbled in a lot of fiber arts, but my real love is historic tablet weaving. I'm here to teach you how you, too, can create amazing historic tablet woven pieces, whether you are a beginner or very experienced! I also share some advise and trade secrets to make your experience easier and more enjoyable.
You can watch the Weave Along videos in any order, but the idea was for beginners to start with easy patterns and work their way up to more complex patterns. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, or just drop me a note to say hello and share what you've been making. We're all friends here!
If you want to show your appreciation for my work, I have a "tip jar" at ko-fi.com/elewys. Thank you very much for your support!

My first try didn't work out very well. I think I'm going to try again with a simple pattern. I started a bit complicated. 😂
A hair stick might work well for these cards.
I've been meddling with weaving for a while, and just last year finished two projects (a trim and a belt), and your videos have gotten me through some hard times, made me want to build my own loom out of scrap wood, and this year I might invest in a good one 😅 but I always come back here to your channel to just have that good "I can do that" feeling and watch you weave, thank you so much, Elewys 💕
all I can say is" oh my goodness".... tku tku for posting.
I have a question, the number of cards/tablets do they have to be a uneven number or is it no matter if the pattern is even? I'm a total beginner again, meaning when I was a smal school child I made a belt in lessons. Now I would like to pick this lovely craft up again hence the dumb question. Newest project has 6 cards . Any way thank you so much for the very well presented tuition.💐😍 Best regards Jessica
just a small suggestion for markings on plastic. If you want them to be more permanent do your marking and when it is dry go over it with clear nail polish.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I just bought an inkle loom and I am following along with this video to make my first project. Maybe someone else noticed, the pattern you linked to doesn't quite match the one you used in the video. I figured out that it's the same if I start on line 9. Not a huge deal, just wanted to let you know. Thank you again for all your helpful videos!
Do you need to block your work, like you would with knitting or crocheting? Thank you for sharing these videos!
I hate making buttonholes whether they are done by machine or by hand 😂 Give me anything else!
I have a problem with this pattern... After a bit I'm working, all the threads on the back of the cards are rolled on themself... How solve this problem to proceed until the end without make a mess and losing the tension?
This really reminds me a lot of counted crosstitch patterns. Congratulations to your friend! And thank you for sharing this!
Beautifully done! I know what I want for Christmas now! Thank you for sharing this video!
I don't know how, but I put everything up correctly. My pattern is reversed and mirrored. How can this be fixed?
How lovely! It’s gratifying to learn that you’ve adventures and joys since your last video!
This would be my first try. But... I want him in 3 color... I need to figure out how I should do. 😂
You're my savior! Maybe finally I can try with tablet weaving too! ❤
Is the print out you’re using in front of you available on your website?
Why is the pattern printed on your website different than the one on this video?row one in the video corresponds to row 9 on the website.
I stumbled on your channel a couple of years ago and was totally fascinated by tablet weaving but I had no real intentions to start weaving. That was until today when I found an Inkle loom with tablet cards at the thrift store for $7. So, I'm back to learn how to setup my loom and, hopefully, learn to tablet weave. Thanks for the videos!
Thank you so much! This has become very useful when I run out of thread shortly before finishing the weave -.- I didn't want to throw away the last meter, so I just threaded a new one in with your method, and it worked fantastic!
I love the method of putting loops into the weaving at the end, and then pulling through the yarn to anchor the end of the braid, to stop it unravelling. My dilemma is how to prevent the starting end unravelling. I’m wondering if this method would work for the other end too, with loops placed into the weaving at the start of the braid in the same way. The yarn could be pulled through either after a few inches have been worked, or once the braid is finished, and before it’s removed from the loom, whilst it’s still under tension. Has anyone tried this?
I can't believe I missed this was for the Sounders when I first watched this. Now I'm getting to rewatch to actually make a first tablet weave for realsies!
I love your channel! I love the relaxed and organized sharing of your experienced knowledge. You remind me of my first weaving teacher. I would come to her with a problem and she would say, "Oh good! Now you get to learn about __[blank]__!" My mistakes were as valuable as what I could do. I also love the Renaissance guitar! Such a good vibe for this fascinating historical art form. I subscribed and will be enjoying more!
Hi Elewys, You have comforted us all through our weaving mishaps and encouraged us to keep at it. I wish we could shine on you during a low moment with a press of a button. Like we have KZread. New equilibrium is ok!
I love that I'm not the only person who gets more excited about surviving textiles than surviving jewelry. Roman coin hoards? Cool. Anglo-saxon brooches? Beautiful. A 2in length of a surviving woven belt? TELL ME EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW MORE
This was just what I was looking for! I have been wanting to try making a turn shoe and was looking for inspiration. I live just 20 mins outside of York so, so this coppergate shoe is perfect for me!
“But some of us” *smoothly cuts the work* “prefer the easy way” I started dying of laughter.
I really appreciate the inclusion of centimeters! Thank you!
You're wonderful! I learn, I laugh, I'm inspired, I'm appreciative! Thank you for serving the hitory and the future of fiber artisan crafts! 😊
Thank you so much for this! I knew I wanted to get into band weaving, but I was having a hard time figuring out what method I wanted to do and what kind of loom I would need. I'd seen the results of inkle weaving, and of card weaving (I love the patterns I've seen from card weaving), but I didnt know you could card weave on an inkle loom. Ashford, here I come!
I could watch these just for your choice of music.
Might make myself one of these. Trying to get into tablet weaving and struggling bc I bought a back strap weaving kit, and trying to learn it all while also trying to maintain tension with my body has been taking the fun out.
I want to try a super basic pattern with just a different color on the outside edges, 2" wide by 110" long. How many cards do I need to manage that, please?
Did any of the Native American tribes use tablet weaving for their textiles? Some of the detail work they did indicates that tablets would make their job much easier, but I've only seen them finger weaving or using rudimentary heddle+shuttle work. I'm preparing to weave a tumpline and would appreciate any advice on the authenticity of the use of tablets for the task.
This is so helpful!
Wonderfull, looking forward to learning a new Craft, Please can you let me know where l can get this pattern please
Thanks for the history and the videos!
Eowyn de Wever is no longer selling on Etsy. Do you have another suggested source for silk yarns? Thanks!
Hello wise one! I have a question! I have a long band that i want to shorten and make into a keychain loop. I have clasps for the ends, so I need the end of the band to not have any fraying. If I sew the ends of the bands and then just cut it, will that be strong enough? Usually I use your method #4 from this video to make my chokers to size and then cut right after the end and use glue, and it seems to hold up alright. But I've never cut a long band! I would be so grateful for your advice!
Thank you! Your video is very usefull!
Where did you find your Robin and Russ cards? I have been looking on the internet and don't find anything like them. Love your videos--thank you!
I have found that using a circular knitting needle keeps cards extra firm when starting skip-hole weaving!
I adore happy mandolins
Greetings from Germany … missing you!
If I find a pattern I like but it doesn’t have the gray marks for going forward or backwards, how do I figure that part out?
I think I may have figured it out by listening to the tablet weaving designer video you had posted. I have to say I can not wait for my loom to get to me next week. I'm ready to get started! and that all thanks to your videos!! they are great and so informative, and you are just wonderful to listen too :)
