    Thank you for these videos, they have given my love of cardboard forts a place to be expressed. Everything is cut, with a steak knife, and starting the glueing today. Grinning ear to ear.Thank you for the joy!

    TY-AWESOME INFO.- I have yet to add anything to my GMC Savana cargo van- but I am anxious to get started. Breaking down the cost and how you add the screen to the foam- is fantastic information! I'm more convinced that that I can do this. Safe Travels-peace

    The reason why the interior heat/cools easier is bc of a reduction of thermal mass of your interior, not the R value.

    One of the videos I watched on doing poor man's fiberglass over this foam is to use a "spiked roller" - not one that pokes really deep into the foam, but when you are trying to adhere anything to this foam, creating a "deeper" connection is a good idea, right? So I've seen a few of these rollers that have about a quarter to half inch spikes allows for the glue to sink in and provides a better connection to both the cloth and the foam. Just an observation that might help.

    Can you build a bench/bunk that’ll Holed an adult?

  • @falkornomad
    @falkornomad5 күн бұрын

    As long as the supporting structure (foam or other) is less than 18-20” apart (depending on weight on that span, you can. That is the spacing / span length I used on our bed platform. If you are thinking a true bunk bed or like a 6’ long bench with only legs on the sides, no.

    Could you make bunk beds for kids?

  • @falkornomad
    @falkornomad2 күн бұрын

    I think you would need to incorporate wood or metal supports for the long spans… I was using 20ish inches as my max span for our bed (think a 200 pound person on their knees in the middle of that 20” area). So for 60-70 pound kids maybe you could go 30” spans without support? See 13:40 here for the closest I get to a discussion on this subject: kzread.info/dash/bejne/c22rrMienqvJf9Y.htmlsi=HnNQlyUn24-fdF3L

    Foam will never do well with lateral movement. That is why your only chance for success is to add a layer of strong wood.

    I have been searching the internet for ideas about how to do a lightweight, removable and modular car camping buildout for a Subaru outback. Was so frustrated that everything was overbuilt and in heavy ply, and knew there must be a better way. Thank goodness the algorithm sent me your way before I went completely mad!

    Thank you for justifying wtf I do ! People go to me why do I do that and not just go buy a replacement well first off I don't have the $$, secondly it's more environmentally friendly, 3rd gotta love a challenge on fixing it lol, but anyhow thank you for doing this video and showing alot of things can be fixed if we all just used a little more brain cells and wasting less $$, lol and thanks for also taking the time to do the editing and downloading love your videos at least you are honest about the things that you do so thank you again !

    In general, if foam is exposed directly to an open flame it will ignite. If the flame source is pulled away it will typically self-extinguish; however, if the flame is constant (i.e. your house is on fire) it will spread and burn similar to wood and many other products used to build our homes.

    Just came across your site, love your brain how you work it out, your really an artist, having never heard of this foam except for those pod vans, had no idea you could buy the foam inside, I have just bought a sprinter and foremost I didn’t want heavy interior, strong but not heavy, looked at the plywood which I was thinking of that until now, and being able to bend, I’m dreaming of retro, vintage design, I’m yet to watch more of your vids or see your van complete as this vid is a year ago, loving the freehand of your work. It’s giving me inspiration. Really appreciate your explanation of all this.

    Pretty sure a method I used to fix old dished out vinyl records would work for the big flat piece. Two heavy sheets of glass that fit in your oven, place the piece inside, letting some hang out if needed, like a lip. So the plastic is sandwiched in between the glass. Set your oven to it's lowest temp and start from a cold over. Hang out and keep a close eye on the process. The moment it looks flat or damn close to it, turn off oven and open the door all the way to start the cooling.

    Put in a vertical 1x2 pine strip at the tip end of the drawer slide from the floor to the slide, and then from that slide to the next one up. Continuethis between each set of slides on each cabinet side. Screw the verticals into the foam. You then have a series of fulcrums supporting the weakest end of the lever (slides end).
