ENGLISH I provided video evidence from the Michelin tire dealership in Milan that recommended the newton meter pressure for the tire lugs should be 170 nm. Now, I believe that they would know what they are talking about and would not want me to drive out of their business and travel over 1,100 kilometers (which I did) and experience a serious accident as a result of their negligence, correct? Now you came along and claimed the lugs should be tightened down to 330 nm based on an alleged Iveco manual, which you failed to produce upon request. I'm holding a professional grade Newton Meter for large trucks in my hand and it STOPS at 300 nm. It doesn't even reach the 330 nm you are talking about.

Grazie~ ENGLISH Please contact me via our website: www.overlanditaly.com and, once I have your e-mail, I will gladly respond to you. I would appreciate receiving a copy of the Iveco manual to which you are referring. Because, I assuming you are correct, I would like to contact the dealership which sold me the tires (and installed them) and inquire why they did so at such a low newton meter rating. I believe they should also provide me with a stronger, or higher rated newton meter device, as I also purchased one from them in an effort to ensure I was properly tightening the tires - having never owned a vehicle like this before. Anyway, I appreciate your input and hope that you will file-out the inquiry form on our website so that I may contact you directly. Thanks~

    Hi! As long as you feel you have the off-road clearance you need, I would imagine driving your 2008 LR3 a bit lower (at stock height) would be far more enjoyable to drive 90% of the time. These vehicle are already quite heavy and keeping the center of gravity lower is fine, as long as it doesn't impede your ability to get where you want to go.

  • @overlanditaly
    @overlanditaly3 ай бұрын

    Perhaps I should have mentioned this during the video, but these tires cannot be balanced because of their 3-piece rims. Go figure, right? Each brand new tire was €960 including the 22% VAT (Value Added Tax) in Italy and mounting. There was an additional €60 for the inner tube and protective rim sleeve. So, just over €1.020 each.

    The air suspension is hardly the worst of your worries on a Disco 3 so why go with springs. Madness.

  • @overlanditaly
    @overlanditaly4 ай бұрын

    Replacing the entire air suspension costs around €5.000 and does not alleviate the risk of catastrophic failure off-road. Utilizing the ARB heavy-load coil-over conversion cost around €1.500 in total and eliminated that concern. Again, the purpose of the series was not to discuss whether the Land Rover Discovery 3 or 4 was the best choice for an overlanding vehicle, which clearly it is NOT, but whether the modifications we made to it classified it to be "The Best in the World" for its Make and Model. Lord knows we had our fair share of failures from transmissions, to drive shafts, gearboxes, intercoolers, alternators, the list goes on-and-on. The coil-over conversation, at least, gave us one less problem to have to worry about. We hope you enjoy our videos and we appreciate you supporting the channel. Thanks~!

    @@overlanditaly I see your point then. Doesn’t cost that here in the UK tho to my knowledge. Surely it’s rare for the whole system to die in a one’r though? Single air bags and valves etc? Yeah a lot of components to fail tho agreed. Maybe get a V8 in it for more reliability and do away with crank failure stress. 🤣

  • @overlanditaly
    @overlanditaly4 ай бұрын

    The compressor, in Italy, costs around €1.206 with our 22% VAT. The sensors and valves are another €1,400 with tax and installation. The original Land Rover air suspension runs around €750 each, again with tax and installation. My compressor was beginning to fail, working sometimes and not others. And when one airbag goes the rest will soon follow suit, its just a matter of when and, more importantly, where. However, if I were a mechanic and could purchase the parts at reduced prices and install them myself I'm sure it would cost far less. Unfortunately I am not a mechanic and that makes the LR3 and LR4 difficult (ie. expensive) vehicles to own given their propensity for failures. Moreover, it was the wrong platform (for me). I wanted something I could live "in" for months at a time, which is why we purchased the Iveco VM-90.

    I am going to meet your challenge regarding the best LR4 in the World! I only found your channel last night as I took a break from preparing my new overland Discovery 4 for a 5 year adventure travelling around Australia using every off- road track possible to achieve 3 objectives. -Circumnavigate Australia. -Travel from its furthest South point to its farthest North point -Travel from its most Easterly point to its most Western point And Criss-cross the whole country to all my desired scenic destinations whilst doing so Now Australia is a tough land , so only tuff truks can do this type of trip, so my preparations are extensive and a little different from yours- but we both agree on one common theme- get rid of all the rear seats and the mid row seats This is a huge space not needed in 1 up overland touring AND offer such freedom to make the car suit your needs and purpose It also saves nearly 200 kg of weight that can be utilised for needed equipment storage Enough for the moment, I’ll be in touch with photos and text as we achieve the finished fitout Cheers Robert

    NO, it's NOT the best LR3 overland build in the world. In fact, I'd put mine over this one. ;) At least I didn't remove what makes the LR3 the best choice FOR an overland vehicle. The air suspension. The gullwing is a great idea, but this one is a ridiculously small opening. In addressing this with this Mfg, they just defended their design with flawed reasons. I gather the investment was at such a cost that they didn't want to make it better.

  • @overlanditaly
    @overlanditaly7 ай бұрын

    We haven't finished covering the vehicle, as we still have at least two more episodes. I've had the air-suspension fail on the vehicle far too often and don't want to risk having the vehicle go into "limp" mode again when on the trail. So, if you prefer air-suspension that's great! However, I've found it to be more of a liability than a benefit. Anyway, you might want to reserve judgement until we've at least finished the series. Thanks for your input!

    I was looking at your vehicle and I didn't see any gullwings installed on your vehicle? It's not a very nice thing to be so critical of someone else's product, particularly when you have never seen it in person, used it or owned it. The gullwings take as much space as can be realistically utilized. I have found them to be well-built and am very happy with our extensive use of them.

    Why don't you add some sort of extra panel on roof of your car which doesn't obstruct your bed and install starlink in flatbed mode so you have internet 24/7

    At the time I added the Starlink (stationary) mobile unit, they had just been released, so at the time it was quite new and revolutionary to the industry. The new flat dishes, or "Starlink in Motion", which can continue to receive and transmit a signal while driving, were only released here in Europe during the late calendar year of 2023. They currently cost €2,873 (Euro) plus the monthly subscription. So, we are waiting to place that unit, once we have ordered it, onto our forthcoming Iveco VM-90 military vehicle with a camper. Stay tuned~!

    Add rubber O ring to shackle bolt and even when you forget to back bolt off, it won’t lock up…..

    I've never seen anyone add a heavy duty O-ring to a D-shackle but, in theory, it makes sense. Have you done this yourself, or just heard about it over the years?
