When I bought the DLR Band album on cassette the summer of 1999, and heard 'Black Sand' I thought it WAS Edward VH at first. Then I read the credits. Had never heard of Terry Kilgore before, and realized that it was a shame that I, and LOTS of other Rock fans and Rock guitarists hadn't! Definitely SHOULDA BEEN FAMOUS!

This is basically just Ed's guitar. The vocals are buried and I can't even hear any drums. But those solos must have warped young minds in '75.

Brian May and Eddie Van Halen had a great relationship for sure but I wonder what May's impression was if he knew of this cover by Van Halen. One thing's for sure the Kinks liked Van Halen's cover of "You Really Got Me" better than the original, so I'd imagine it'd probably a similar response.

I’m an absolute die hard Queen fan obsessed. I also love Van Halen. But, let’s address the elephant in the room - that cover was absolutely HORRIBLE. it was out of tune, ad-libbed, and just plain incorrect. There are plenty of videos of highschool bands nailing this song. No excuses.

Al’s one of my Top 5 drummers. But…you can really hear the tempo problems (rushing) Templeman talks about in his book. Granted, if I go back and listen to board tapes of myself from younger days, I too did the same. So fair enough. He’s still a legend. And has feel for days.
