Most vehicles are parked 23hrs every day. 😮😊😊😊
I’m not an EV owner but interested. 2 questions: 1. Do you need a 20amp or 15amp standard outlet? 2. Why do you need to set the charging timer vs just letting it charge until you need to drive it?
Generally it's not advisable to charge to more than 80%.
How do I reset the Wi-Fi password?
Good reviews Paul
Help please.. Is it possible to buy the same size from the front and put it on the back ? Now you can ha e all four sizethe same? Thanks@paulshoover
i had same problem, but i had some diferent problem my door indicator sow me that the door was opend. that hapent after i washed the car.
Glad it helped.
Muchas gracias!!! Tu video solucionó el problema de que el instalador dejó configurado el cargador a baja corriente, no sabía que hacer….
Perfecto mi amigo!
Thank you for the informative video. I have a 2018 Leaf SL, 46Ah battery, EPA 150mi range. I'm retired and find that the Level 1 charging serves my purpose just fine for near-ranging in the SF Bay Area. The Leaf is perfect for the LibNut Bastion 😂 of the SF Bay Area, L2 and ChaDeMos up the yingyang everywhere. I have two 4L V8 vehicles to range further - a Land Rover and a Lexus sedan. Once you get away from lala land, say into the California Central Valley, charging options diminish noticeably.
Glad it helped
Paid $600 for set of 21" Uberturbines with 3 good tires and size up the back to 295/35/21 PIRELLI for $500
Nice
Wow, I thought the granny charger was slow on our 240v sockets in the UK but after seeing it run on 110v I'm not complaining 👍👍
Good to hear
I tried everything and it would not connect. Finally learned my internet gateway had to be set to WPA2 and NOT WPA3.
Nice!
Meh, my 2013 Leaf had the ability to stop charging at 80%. My 2017 doesn’t so I charge it to 100% on 110V when it needs it. I’m down 2 bars out of 12 for capacity with 45k miles.
Good to know
Geez== You've GOT to get your audio levels fixed! The only thing I can hear is the incidental music between shots.
yep - had issues in post
::edit:: I just took a laptop out there instead of the phone and was able to connect to the internals page and configure them with no issue! 😊 --------------------------- Do you know if this information is still current with the latest software? When mine was installed a few weeks ago, i tried commissioning via the tesla one app per the instructions, but it seemed you had to be a tesla certified electrician to use the app. Eventually I gave up on it and just added the connectors to my tesla app without commissioning them. Which works fine for charging, but I don't have access to most of the deeper configuration, like load balancing.
nice! Congrats
Thanks this vid help me to try to get a leaf
nice - enjoy!
How to order it
on the tesla website under shop. shop.tesla.com/product/paint-repair-kit
I have had my LEAF Plus almost a year now. I have found the easiest way to compute reaching 80 to 85% charge is to: Read the message the car gives you at shutdown as to what time the car will be fully charged ( it is assuming you are going ahead and plug it in now). After seeing the estimate of, let's say 3:00 AM to 100% charge (as an example), subtract 2 to 2 1/2 hours from that. That should give the car an estimated 80-85% charge around 12:30 to 1:00 AM. If you are going to plug in and start charging now set the end time for 12:30 or so. If you want it to start later you now can estimate how many hours you need to charge by subtracting what time it is now from the 12:30 AM end time. Adjust your start to stop time span to equal that same length of time. There are some variables, temp, battery condition, actual line voltage your charger receives and the state of charge the car is in but this is a way to get close. You can tweak the amount of time to subtract from the 100% estimate as you narrow in on the best number for your current situation.
good advice here.
Nice review I am a Nissan leaf 2022 and great car
Nice 👍
there is a setting in the menu to stop charging at 80 %
not in the US cars.
Thanks for this. Short and sweet. You made it easy.
You're welcome!
Thank you for the advice regarding charging to 80%. So much conflicting information out there. I’m into my 3rd year of ownership of my 2020 Leaf. It has been a great daily commuter. Economical as well. I intend to keep it long term. So battery life is my main concern.
You can do it! Just drive and enjoy.
Thank you! I am going Saturday to buy a 2022 leaf. So the car should come with the charging cable that has 120v and 240v connectors? That means all I will need to do is run a 240 outlet into my garage correct?
either one. Really depends how much you drive and how much time you need to charge. 220 is the fastest and quickest. Most folks who drive 40 miles or less can get by with 110 over night
Genius.
lol!
I only get 160 miles on a full charge is that the normal and it drains fast
depends on temps, driving speed, battery pack size. Hot or very cold, high speeds all drain super faster.
I'm sooo jealous I see you have about 3,000 miles on the odo!! My 2021 Leaf SL+ has 68,000 miles on the odo! still at 100% battery soh on the dash battery screen. Interesting video, I have seen about 52KW max charging rate at the fast chargers I have used, and I was thinking about looking for a 100KW Chademo in my area. But after seeing the cost (twice the price) and time difference (only 5 min.) I'm not gonna bother! I have a BP station a few miles from home with a charge point Chademo that is charging 25 cents/Kwh. enjoyed the video , Thanks! 😀
you bet!
I bought one Nissan Leaf SV plus 2024 !Awesome car and affordable
Good choice!
One of the best Leaf reviews out there. Thumbs up 👍
Wow, thanks!
Do i need to upload the photos if the breaker set up and the wall charger set up to be able to charge the car? Are they necessary? I dont understand why they are needed to charge?
nope - no need to upload.
You mentioned rage of 124 miles which is not true. 124 is a small battery version, and SV Plus has 212 miles range.
yes 212 is the SV plus
I just found out on the KZread channel Dala's EV repair that a Chademo to CCS1 (for U.S.) adapter is now available.
I've learned about that. Its great news to be able to use CCS. Much easier to find.
Nissan Leafs can charge at up to 6.6kw. At 240v, that is 27.5A. The current measured at the outlet will be slightly higher to cover losses in the EVSE and overhead in the car. If you have one of those EVSEs, it needs to be on a 40A circuit your Dryer is 30A -80% = Max Current useable is 24A.
correct
TERRIBLE sound!!!!
yes - I had issues in post.
Purchase a car for the kids! That’s why young people today feel the everything should be given to them. If the want a car, tell their lazy a$$es to get a job and purchase one themselves. Parents today are nothing but enablers. As a youngster, I had to work and purchase my own, including insurance, gas and maintenance. I was brought up to understand responsibility. Our country, today, is filled with useless irresponsible youth. As soon as I heard you talk about purchasing a car for the kids I stopped watching. Our country is quickly going down the toilet.
ok - you do you.
Hi Paul, thx for the video. I have a Tesla Model 3, and a gen 3 wall charger, just bought a used 2020 Nissan Leaf, for the same purpose as you ( short range commutes). I live in Australia, our Tesla and Leaf have the same AC connection plug, so I'm about to see if my Tesla wall charger will charge my Leaf, then I won't have to buy an extra wall charger, hopefully.😊
nice!
If you need to make a long drive get a rental car. With all the money usu are saving by having this Leaf, you can rent a car for your longer trips and still be $’s ahead.
good point!
Thanks.
You're welcome
Just a niggle--charging rate is in kW (not kW per hour). Example: Charging at 150 kW for half an hour would accumulate to 75 kWh.
yep - thanks!
Excellent video. I will be aiming people at this video. We're planning to buy a used Leaf soon. Will be showing my wife this so she better understands the charging side of things. We too will 99% of the time be using this car as a local car. Maybe occasionally a trip from our town to the big city. Maybe x1 a year. I've done it with a borrowed Leaf so I know it'll do it.
you'll enjoy!
Thinking about purchasing this vehicle for my short local commutes to work. Thanks for this review! This was so valuable!
Glad it was helpful!
How do you charge the car? No maths needed... It tells you on the display how long to charge it to 50%, 80%, etc, at the rate you are charging it. Plug it into the wall charger and set the wall charger to charge for how many hours you need. Simple
Cool, mine didn't work that way...
@paulshoover using the left-hand steering wheel buttons go to the dash display showing the battery symbol (the furthest left and then down one click from the power meter). The battery symbol is incremented, showing you how long to charge to different percentages. If you press the OK button, it takes you to an option for different charge rates. You can use the car timer to set how long to charge if your wall charger doesn't have a timer built in. My gf bought an e208 GT Premium. Her car only has a start time setting and no end time. So she can't charge to a desired percentage from her car. That also means that at night, her car continues to charge into the dearer day time tariff. That's why we purchased a wall charger with a timer. She also tends to use my Leaf's granny cable, and I go on the wall charger because she doesn't do many miles in a day. So, to combat both her car and the granny cable not having a timing method, we installed a digital timed isolator before the socket for about £30. The timed isolator has paid for itself many times over from the savings by only charging on the cheaper rate. The timed isolator also prevents other people from stealing our electricity from the outside RCD wall socket.
@paulshoover there's no need to drive or time to establish the charging rates either. Yes, it's maths, but it's easy. We have to do this for the Peugeot e208 GT Premium, which doesn't do the maths for us. You can Google what any vehicle charges at or look it up in the manual. The Leaf charges at 2 charge rates: 6.6kW AC max or 50kW DC max The actual charge rate depends on the method of how it's charged, i.e., the available kW, by the method you choose to charge at. There are basically 3 methods to charge a Leaf: 1) 2.4kW AC (supplied Nissan AC granny cable UK. This may vary in different countries. Read the label on the charger) 2) 6.6kW max AC (AC wall unit or destination charger irrespective of the unit capability 7kw/11kW/22kW, etc) 3) 50kW (DC rapid charger) Example 1: A 62kWh battery at 50% charging to 80% using a 22kW AC charger (remember 6.6kW max). That's 30% charge you want to add. (30 ÷ 100) × 62kWh = 18.6kWh to add. Divide that by the charge rate. 18.6kWh ÷ 6.6kW(max) = 2.82 hours I'm not that critical in real life as a few extra % won't hurt. So, it's basically 3 hours. There's actually a portion of unusable battery below the indicated 0% and above 100% in all EVs which is managed by the battery management system to help protect the battery, i.e., you can not actually get to the genuine 0% or get to the genuine 100%. Example 2: A 40kWh battery at 20% charging to 80% on a 2.4kW AC granny cable UK: That's adding a 60% charge. (60 ÷ 100) × 40kWh = 24kWh 24kWh ÷ 2.4kW = 10 hours. When plugged into a 50kW DC charger, the Leaf tells you exactly how long to go to 80% You can do this for any size battery charging at any rate. All you need to know is the vehicles max charging rates.
I'm a new EV owner who purchased a 2018 Leaf from a BMW dealer. Their elec. charging station did not work on the Leaf and they informed me they would have to take it off the lot to charge it. BMW said they had the plugs that came with the car in the back and I never asked to see them, I just trusted them because they were so nice and professional). I left the car there so they could repair a small dent in the bumper. In the meantime, I have no idea how to charge the car, so I came to KZread and typed, "How to charge 2018 Nissan Leaf." Out of the ten videos I watched, I still had doubts about how to charge it and what plugs I needed. Paul's video popped up and FINALLY! None of the other videos came close to the quality and "need to know" information I needed like Paul's. I even learned more stuff as a bonus! There is no one here trying to be a reviewer / comedian or fill the video with "commercial" type images and visuals that have nothing to do with information about the vehicle chargers and charging stations. Thank you, Paul! Best information video out there!
Glad it was helpful and sorry for thr rotten experience to start with. Just trying to educate and inform. Wishing you a great one!
I just look at the car screen that shows time to charge to 75%...then add 30 mins...you'll be really close every time...then set timer in car for night time charging or use your phone to set timer then go unplug when timer goes off.
Cool
That’s all I use my Leaf for is around town. I love the car, but I wish it had a % selector like the Tesla. It sure would make charging a lot easier.
Agree
I see that your VSP warning light is on which indicates that the pedestrian warning sound is off. Did you intentionally turn it off or was there an issue with it?
Yes, the noise sucks.... I unplugged the speaker.
@@paulshoover I can’t tell you what to do, but the VSP is a safety feature and shouldn’t be removed completely. I can see the implications of muffling the speaker to reduce its output, but not removing it entirely. On the other hand, i thoroughly enjoyed this video and will look forward to more. 👍🏼
@@rylans.5365 we can agree to disagree - The noise is dumb whether there is noise maker or not the driver is solely responsible to ensure the vehicle does not hit objects/people. Sound or not. The noise is just plain dumb and its annoying.
FOR HEALTHY BATTERY, TRY TO KEEP IT 30 TO 80 PERCENT
Good call
Interesting approach to use the timer, nevertheless I was thinking about the possibility of using for example (no ad) a Xiaomi smart plug that has the function of Charge protection, meaning that if the current draw (or watts) drop below a certain value, the smart plug just switches off the power to the charger. So if we measured the (decreased) draw of current at around 78-80 percent, we could set the smart plug to do the job for us by telling it to switch off the power when the draw drops below this value.
Great idea
Thanks for this video! I have an amazing 2020 Nissan leaf and have been offered a Tesla 3. Should I take the Tesla?
Hands down. Tesla is a way better car now that prices have dropped.
Cool Video. It is nice to know someone else in the Dayton Ohio area owns a Tesla and a Leaf. I also think Costco should get a DC Fast Charger
That would be cool!
could you set the amp current on the leaf
Nope not able too.
i was online for the last 4 to 6 hours trying to figure this out and then i found this... oh my f**k... THANK YOU so much, this saved my phone from turning into a piece of tin and glass. Cheers!
Nice! Your welcome
