Yerba mate (ma-teh), travel, and culture are a passion. This channel is designed to share with you information about yerba mate, lifestyles around the world, as well as culture and travel information.
I just ordered my first Yerba Mate "starter kit" which is the Playadito... seemed like the best option for newbies. Assuming I like it and want to try something a little stronger what would you recommend be my next step?

Playadito is a great choice! With such a wide variet of flavors and flavor profiles, you can't really go wrong. Depending on your taste preferences, I would recommend a Barbacua like Isondu. It is beautiful and Argenthings has so many beautiful hand-crafted gourds. Check them out: www.argenthings.com/categoria-producto/gourds/
@@yerbatravels Oh nice. They do have a lot of nice gourds, I'll ask if they ship locally since I'm from Argentina lol.
I always drink exactly 30g, I assume it’s the best dose for me and my body. And I always drink it from the same gourd.
It is so nice when you can find the perfect amount. What type of gourd do you use? What yerba do you enjoy drinking?
Just over half, maybe ~60% fill. But I'm not a fan intensive strong kick.
Perfect amount. What is your favorite yerba to drink?
@@yerbatravels Rosamonte and Amanda (both elaborada)
Nice video. Do you if this one is smoked?
No, this Taragui Sin Palo is not smoked.
@@yerbatravels Nice! Smoked products give me acid reflux. I'm definitely gonna try this yerba. I guess the one with palo also isn't smoked, right?
@@Vague2121 I don't think that is smoked either. Most smoked yerbas are labeled either toasted, smoked, or babarcua.
Cuia de purungo.
I now have a cuia! Wish I could have made this video with it in it.
@@yerbatravels all good brother. thanks for telling the world about this great culture. cheers from a brazilian expat :D
Since I tried this yerba I have never could change to any other brand. I drink Rosamonte Special Selection every day. In my experience prepare a uruguayan yerba is totally different than an argentinian one, you can use warmer water (until 80 celcius) because bigger particles extract slower.
It's also in my top yerbas! It's funny how different people prepare yerba mate. I will be making a video about this soon :)
go for it with the spanish. your doing great and no one will ever be offended. cheers from brazil.
Appreciate ya! Love the feedback :)
Which one you think that tastes better, this Rosamonte or Cruz de Malta?
For me... Rosamonte. It's one of my favorites!
How much you drink a day?
I typically drink one gourd a day. Do you drink yerba mate?
@@yerbatravels yes of course! I am drinking Taragui original
@@yerbatravels you put full of Gourd, right?
@@caubegiaumat1037 yup!
@@yerbatravels oh , I'm still don't know how to make a mountain in Yerba Mate like you do
How taste?
This one has a sweet earthy/grassy taste. Not too bade. Smooth enough to drink every day.
@@yerbatravels cool
It's very interesting to see North Americans trying Brazilian mate. I'm from Brazil, although I'm from Rio de Janeiro, not from the south where chimarrão is usually consumed, but I love chimarrão (my favorite erva is called Madrugada). I'm actually doing the opposite of what you did soon by trying Argentinian yerba in a few weeks for the first time. I can't wait! Thanks for the video.
I'm just glad I can share with others, especially North Americans and those specifically here in the US. What Argentine yerba are you trying first?
@@yerbatravels I'm trying Rosamonte first. It constantly gets recommended as the first Argentine yerba to try because it's, from what I've read, quite balanced, having just the right amount of bitterness and sweetness at the sime time.
@@ricardogadelha5003 Excellent choice! I’d love to hear your thoughts on it after a few gourds.
What's your top yerba of all time?
Mine would have to be Anna Park. I also would put Rosamonte Especial at the top followed closely by Isondu barbacua, La Merced De Camp, and Canarias (yellow bag). What's your top yerba of all time?
@@yerbatravels thanks for the insight. I love Rosamonte SE - possibly my favourite of all time, but jostling with Playadito, La Rubia and Pajarito SE... Got a Merced Campo Sur that I'm looking forward to opening. I can sort of see the appeal with Canarias yellow but it's just too damn strong and bitter for me, and the caffiene content must be off the charts. Unfortunately I can't get Anna Park in the UK to my knowledge - but would love to try it as have heard great things!
@@neotropos Great list of yerbas! Canaria’s for sure has a strong caffeine kick, but I think that is what makes it especially great for athletes. Check out Annan Mate for Anna Park. They are a UK based company, and I know they sell Anna Park. You can also contact them through their IG if they don’t currently have it in stock. anam-mate.square.site/s/shop
@@yerbatravels aah thank you. I must've missed it at Ana Mate but will definitely take a look there and hopefully buy some. Yep I definitely get the Canarias thing in situations where one is in need of a massive caffiene hit 😁 👍🧉
I just started drinking Yerba, and for better or worse, not sure which one yet, I chose Canaria’s Serena. Being a 5-6 cups of coffee a day drinking to this has been drastic! I LOVE the flavor, but it’s TOO relaxing to me. I was wanting something that hits hard caffeine wise, and this one isn’t it. Like you said, this one would be great in the late afternoon to relax ya and such, but not for the top of the morning.lol I’m gonna try the original Canaria’s in the yellow bag, and hope that’s better.
This one definitely hits different than coffee lol. Canarias (yellow bag) is a bit stronger. I also like to recommend either Mate Factor (fresh) or a La Merced to those switching from coffee. You can also find dark roasted Yerbas that hit like coffee, too. Hope you find what you’re looking for 🧉
@@yerbatravels thank you for these suggestions!!!
I felt smoke and toasty notes. It is very different in my opinion to the classic Rosamonte. It goes pretty well with some empanadas, bread and bacon, pepperoni pizza or crackers.
Pajarito
It's on my list to try. Hope it packs a punch
@@yerbatravels It does
Buenas . Me encantaría saber tu opinión y videos con traducción al español.
Thank you for watching and commenting. We are in the process of getting our videos translated. I hope they will be up soon.
Thanks for the video. I plan to buy a cuia and the bombilla for chimarrao very soon. I have yet to try a Brazilian erva, but can't wait to give it a try.
Fantastic! Let us know what you think :)
Послевкусие кисленькое, долго проливается раз 7-8 точно, кофеиновая бомба!)
This is definitely a heavy hitter! I believe this is one of the best yerbas for athletes and for recovery as well.
Watching this as I drink some
If you want something similar in concept, you could try "mate cocido". You can either make it yourself (better), or you can also buy it in tea bags (just like tea). You can search for recipes online, it's really easy to make. Also I wanted to recommend "Don Satur" biscuits if you can find them (the salty ones). They are an incredible combination for when you drink mate.
Hey forgive me if you already have a review up, but I love la Merced de campo, and I’m super interested in trying the other three types of la Merced. And not to bombard you with suggestions but playdito makes despalata in a red bag as well. Would love to hear your thoughts on them
I love these recommendations! I will get these two and make reviews of them!
Hey, do you have any idea what yerba mate teas contine the most cloragenic acid or what's the best one in general?
Not off the top of my head, but I will look into this and let you know!
@yerbatravels allright thanks a lot
