JeN's Jyugyou / ジェンの授業

Do you want to increase your English skills and enjoy learning?!? Welcome to JeN’s Jyugyou!

My name is JeN. I'm a Canadian English teacher with over 12 years of experience teaching ESL to international students. On JeN’s Jyugyou, I want to bring that experience to you by creating fun and interesting videos that help you to improve your English!

Every Friday I'll upload videos for intermediate-advanced level students. Every Monday I'll upload videos for beginner-basic level students. The videos are designed to help anyone study English and all instruction is in English only, however the beginner videos should be especially helpful for new Japanese learners as they will have both English and Japanese subtitles. (“Jyugyou” means lesson or class in Japanese.)

I hope you’ll enjoy my English lessons. Good luck with your English Studies!

Most Canadians see Mounties everyday. They're the provincial police in all Provinces except Ontario and Quebec. LOL. Also, some of the slang such as 'six', 'keener' and "give'er" is used mostly by the young'uns.

Thank you for this video on animal idioms. Your stuffies are cute. I'm just wondering why you have music playing in the background. As an additional language learner, I find it difficult to understand everything that's said when there is distracting music, no matter how quiet it is.

This is like the guide to living in canada maybe 60 years ago. Like, saying excuse me after sneezing? Covering your mouth when you yawn? It may be my autism, but i see no problem with yawning. Not having your elbows on the table? This is all very antiquated. Talking with food in mouth is ok should you not be showing people the shit inside of your mouth, and pointing to people is absolutely fine, no one does that upward palm thing. I hate tip culture, the jobs should pay their workers living wages so we don't have to. I believe the gifts are unneccesary and they are trying to sucker you into buying things for no reason. If it's a birthday or something that warrents a gift, go ahead, bring a gift, but if it's just dinner with extended family, don't feel pressured to do it.

Such a lot of information to remember...(even, for you!!) To answer a question you asked: I live in Ireland & it consists of 4 provinces; namely: Munster (where I live), Leinster (our capital city of Dublin, is in this province, Ulster (which is a divided province, meaning that 6 of the 9 counties in Ulster are under British rule - once upon a time, ALL of Ireland was, but following what is known as the 1916 Rising, 6 of the counties in Uster remained part of what became known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland) while the other 3 counties in Ulster & the rest of Ireland formed to become the Republic of Ireland. Following an agreement (which became known as, "The Good Friday Agreement, " in 1998, which was put together by parties of both, Ireland & the UK, the potential agreement, which states that the 6 counties of Northern Ireland, shall remain under British rule, unless and/or, until the majority of the people living on the island of Ireland, decide that Northern Ireland should reunite with the Republic, to form one, independent country, in its own right.

In Toronto it's OK for people to speak on their cell phones on public transit since it's just like talking to the person beside them, as long as they aren't talking loudly. But using speaker phone, no that's against the by-law, which is posted on every bus and train. No one can use audio devices on public transit without using headphones or ear buds. Speaker phone is not allowed. Of course they do it anyway.

I am so tired of these type of Utubes. Many of these expressions are native to some parts of Canada and not others. In Alberta there is no such thing as a two four, I have never heard anyone call a couch a chesterfield or even know what a bunny bag is. Many of us do not frequent Tim Hortons or use the term double double, I don’t even know anyone who would use that amount of sugar. A lot of Canadians would not know what the Peg meant etc etc etc.

#10. Twoonie was not my choice... I thought maybe Doubloon which was a 2-escuedo gold coin worth 4$$ would be cheeky, but Canadians needed to accept 2 dollar currency because in days of yore the frontier days they were used to buy prostitutes. I remember, I lived in Moose Jaw, so we never saw the red two dollar bill. The coin is Twoonie. But Double-loon ????? Anyone like it. Have a Royal Commission... By the way, I love your stuff Eh!

Let's start with the basic: KILometers, not kilOmeters. MILLimeters, CENTimeters, DECImeters, DECAmeters, kilOmeters?? C'mon! CONSISTENCY is the hallmark of the Metric system! In English, the accent is ALWAYS on the first syllable!
