TorqueCars

TorqueCars

I created TorqueCars in 2003 to pass on tips I gained from modifying and upgrading cars, we are not built for profit but for a love of cars and customization & modification of them.

I found many parts did not do what they claimed, or my expectations were far higher than reality would show. So by passing on the things I have learned I help many others avoid making the same mistakes I did when starting out.

This is very much community driven, so viewer feedback and suggestions is highly recommended and tips are passed on in future videos.

This channel contains Videos from TorqueCars.com to supplement the content, articles, photographs and features we have on the main site. Please visit www.torquecars.com for the latest car tuning and car styling news, features articles and tips. We are a very friendly car tuning and car styling club and welcome members from all over the world and with all types of cars.

    I feel its more of a protective measure for us as drivers. However, I can say so with the understanding that I will still have the ability to control my car's speed when needed. Let's see what happens.

    How frequently? Put aside the manufacturer's manual that only is concerned with getting you through a short warranty period. Put aside the advice of the fellow who makes a 125 mile freeway commute every day. Put aside the lab report when you may switch from the 125 mile work commute and start doing 1 mile hops a few times a day. Let's create a hypothetical. It is not the hypothetical (real world example) of the guy who leases a car and drives it for 2 years racking up 25000 miles and goes off and leases another vehicle. Let's do the hypothetical that the car will be kept for 14 years and driven 15000 miles a year - more normal in my area. That is 210,000 miles. Most people never arrive there. My extended family has had 4 of the same model of car. The three that are gone each did over 250,000 miles because the owners did not do 10,000 oil changes. Mine is 20 years old. Take the price of a oil change, including any tax. You are using an unknown oil filter and trusting that the shop is using the cheapest oil of the type used in your car model. Make it $60. If you change every 10,000 miles - $1260. every 5,000 miles $2520. every 3,000 miles $4200. Take the price of your new, average car $35,000. The sales tax in my county is over $3,500. I will ask you to disregard financing charges, although the average Joe finances. I will ask you to disregard the additional insurance charges although a lender will require you to have collision and upset to insure the lender. I will ask you to disregard that your annual registration fee goes down if you have a used vehicle. Finally, I will ask you to disregard the benefit of putting a car up on a lift and inspecting the tires, the worn parts by inspecting the car on a lift. All we are concerned about is the sales tax of $3500 and the cost of oil changes. I assume that you understand that failing to do oil changes is the number one cause of a destruction that the owner can control other than his driving. So, 3 people obtained an additional 40,000 miles by doing at least 5,000 mile oil changes. It meant that they got another 3 years before having to go in and negotiate for a new car, as well.

    Hi I am a owner of a 2.0bitdi automatic 4motion amarok 2018 with 96000km on and I have done a egr delete and catalytic converter delete. My vehicle has a much better performance, but the main thing is my intake manifold is clean and my oil stays clean much longer. Now I can service the vehicle every 10 thousand km. I am happy with my choice and would do it with every vehicle that is fitted with this money making scheme.

    I'm just curious about the turbo timer and affecting the immobilizer. It this your opinion, or has it been proven? Please respond!

  • @torquecars
    @torquecars15 сағат бұрын

    If you switch off the engine and remove the key the engine is still running so it is not immobilized, you are effectively walking away leaving the car switched on. Insurance companies would not approve of a car which is normally immobilized and protected from running happily without the immobilizer. It would be possible to get the immobilizer circuit to switch on after the turbo timer has run, but most that I've seen just bypass the immobilizer and make it easy to hot wire the car.

  • @soloflexmaricruz6702
    @soloflexmaricruz670214 сағат бұрын

    @@torquecars I wasn't looking at it from insurance stand point. I thought it causes issue for the immobilizer.

  • @torquecars
    @torquecars13 сағат бұрын

    Ah I see. The immobilizer is completely bypassed in most cases so the car will start without the unlock happening, and in the best case scenario is that it is only disabled when you shut the engine off for the cooldown period.

    There's a difference between fuel quality and fuel grade. Warming up your car? Are you stuck in 1955? With up-to-date oils, mostly being synthetic, there's no need to warm it up.

    My VW Golf 1.5 130hp Bluemotion 2013 needs G13, at least that is what it says on the reservoir. That is easily available here in the Netherlands. I think a G13 is a long life coolant. Sometimes I read that it is recommended to replace coolant occasionally. Does this also apply to the G13?

    Good bits of info! Pops showed me the ropes when it came to the turbo engine life. Let it warm up, don't be erratic with the throttle, and let it cool down after a rip. Oil changes at 5k kms, with a filter change/dissection halfway through. 0w40 in cool months, 5w50 for summer in my 09 Dodge Caliber SRT4. Engine is squeaky clean at 217k kms, and brings me joy every day.

    Turbos don't spin all that fast unless you're boosting them a lot by driving hard. At low RPMs and driving gently, the RPM of a turbo is not nearly 200,000 or 300,000 like he says.

    I keep saying this and I will continue to say it regardless of what some idiots think-motor oil is cheap compared to an engine rebuild or replacement. DO NOT listen to these moron car manufacturers that say extended oil change intervals are fine,change your motor oil every 3000-5000 miles depending on the engine type and how it runs. These 10,000 mile oil change intervals is the biggest scam ever,your engine will sludge up and fail eventually if you do this to any engine( diesel engines are the exception ). My 2011 Honda Accord euro has a K-24 engine in it with 260,000 kilometres on the odometer,the oil in it has been changed every 5000 kilometres since new and it uses no oil,the oil stays clean and engine runs like it’s new. The other thing is don’t use cheap motor oil and filters,always use good quality motor oil and filters.

    I recently bought a hybrid car with a turbo, so I'm just curious since I don't control directly the gear its in, nor the RPMs - should I assume that the car's computer will do a great job for the cool down and warming up? After long highway driving it usually just shuts down the ICE for the last 1-2km of the trip, so i guess it doesn't need a cool down?

    Thks, great Video. Also consider if the car is diesel and has a DPF, regular Regens will contaminate oil with fuel and dirt(soot etc) whilst trying to clean the DPF (Filter). Idling or regular short Journeys will mean more carbon build up, consequently more frequent oil & oil filter change..

  • @haraldpost
    @haraldpost2 күн бұрын

    Very important point. I don't think people realize that regular short tips = SEVERY DUTY oil change interval. Yet, look at any service book and you'll find that it is - at best - done at the normal interval.

    Love your videos ( from the USA ). Where i live the car culture is lifted pick up trucks with big mud tires or very old American cars with candy paint and super large wheels 22” and bigger… so having a 2015 Audi TTS competition Pkg ( Imola Yellow ) stands out of the crowd and from my understanding it’s quite rare. As you stated in other videos … you can make specific content specific to a viewer. I’m new this car so I’m listening to all your videos featuring VAG so I can have a broad knowledge of this type of vehicle. Would like to see more recent videos talking on the Audi TTS 8J MK2. It’s weak points. It’s areas to be concerned of . Also would like to know if catch cans are needed even for a simple stage 1 ecu tune or not. Maintenance and so forth. ( EA113 engine last generation before the MK3 Audi ). 🙂 Keep up the great vids and thanks 🙏

    I just changed engine oil and serviced on my friends vw1.9 car he claims they last for ever . The last time it was serviced was when he bought it over 3 years 48k miles ago . Mmm only well know for long lasting it looked after . Could tell the engine sounds a bit quieter after oil/filter replaced . Wasn’t sluggish if that was 30years ago the would be like tar after that time millage .

    I have been doing 25K oil changes for over 30 years, drive most cars to over 300K miles and have never had an oil related failure. I have modified the wast-gate pressure and the down-pipe for additional power. I have also never had an oil analysis showing excessive wear.

  • @BlackhawkPilot

    I have had very good luck with tweeking the waste gate pressure, using a larger down pipe and a heavy duty inter-cooler (on some engines I have installed a fan on the inter-cooler). On a direct injected engines the head(s) need to be pulled and the valves cleaned.

    When you arrive at your destination, do not just immediately shut off the engine. Sit there and allow the engine to run for a couple of minutes to allow oil to circulate to the turbo to cool it off some.
