My name is Nick and I’ve been an organ player for three quarters of my life.
I’m based in the British Midlands and am fascinated and/or obsessed (depending upon your viewpoint) by all things Hammond. Over the last three decades, I’ve worked my way up through many of the best organ clones such as Yamaha SKs and Hammond XBs to arrive at my current setup of a Hammond XK-Pro rig for touring and a 1960 Hammond C3 organ for recording. I use these with either a Leslie 122 or 145, a Leslie pedal that I was lucky enough to win in the Hammond USA Riff-Off competition, or a NEO Ventilator, depending on the need.
If you’re struggling with any aspect of the Hammond Organ sound that you feel I might be able to help with, please don’t hesitate to drop me a line. Likewise if you’re an instrument manufacturer or retailer & need a little consumer feedback, I’m always available.

In the 70s & 80s , DP was one of my top five, along with Yes, Uriah Heep, Rush & Black Sabbath.
Sounds like the good old D.P. I grew up with 70s & 80's.
About Viscount Legend I heard, the only way to distinguish it from an electro magnetic Hammond is in AB comparison and solo played and only for owners of a real vintage Hammond they play it everyday.
Great fun watching these reactions Nick. All three new Purple songs are great and kind of representative of their different styles. Really looking forward to the album. Only 9 days to go! 😊
Great video about great song ! Thanks!!!!
Cracking song and l love Simon's playing. He's absolutely nailed the feel for a classic Deep Purple style and sound. Subtle nods to Ritchie's licks back when they were cementing the unique Deep Purple sound ?. Brilliant !......l'm 16 again !..deffo on the shopping list
It's The Fender Rhodes Hands Down
..But in All Fairness I Will Say The Legends a Nice Piece of Gear.
Roger still has the blues beat. He doesn't play super fast notes like the old days. Very much Deep Purple. IT'S FRICKIN GREAT!~!~!!! Good review mate.
Nick, thank you for the demos and playing tips. I just put in an order for a Mojo Suitcase, so I can practice without annoying the neighbors and have something light weight to play out. My C3, Leslie 122 with Organ Grinder on the Swell and Tube Overdrive pedal on the Great, is a bit noisy for practicing blues scales.
It sounds a bit like the riff from "fool for your loving"
I liked this one. There's a couple of years without good music from Purple.
I love it! ❤️
Hi Nick. I actually have a question, not sure if this is the correct place. I bought a used Hammond XK-5. They keys at the top "C, C#, D, D#" (under the percussion) are very loud. It's as if there's no cushioning under the keys. If I play softly, I don't notice, but if I put a moderate amount of weight into my playing, it's very loud and the keys bang against the keybed. I'm in Sydney, Australia, where there are seemingly no organ specialists. Is this issue normal for a Hammond? Should I be concerned? Is it ok to open up the Hammond and look inside? Thank you kindly. I love your channel.
@@adamjacksonmedia I’ll check mine but that doesn’t sound right. I wouldn’t open it up as it would invalidate your warranty. Contact your dealer in the first instance I reckon
@nickfoleyuk Thank you very much. I bought the Hammond used, with no warranty, and dealers are in different states unfortunately.
Geriatric Rock, rocks.
All 3 songs are fantastic and they still rock as the best. Of course the words written by Ian are also always very beautiful and special.
Dear god you sod off!!
From what I have heard it's much more back to Blackmore era writing style.
Bravo lads, amazing work especially with one foot in the grave! Can't wait to see these old farts try to play rock music from wheelchairs.
They should have retired a long time ago.
Nick you should play with Deep Purple, you're the LOST MEMBER...is serius and true...from CDMX MEXICO...
Both have great sounds. Both were made for certain music and certain era. Musical instruments are infinite.
Thanks Nick you always explain the real Deep Purple...bye teacher from CDMX MEXICO...
No se parece en nada, yo vendi este año mi mark 2 y me arrepiento, es el que mejor suena para. el legend no suena bonito
You couldn’t just listen to the song before you started messing around!
Great great song!!!
Rhodes is the winner 🙂
Nice, nice, nice !
Hello I’m from the 3rd rock from the sun Rygel 4 and we are Deep Purple games here. We give the new album 8 zarion glots and 10 Big zygkits 🆙
Fantastic!
Great job!
The EP is Fantastic!!! Sounds like the old Purple...Best stuff they have done in a long, long time!!!!!
I turned up to my second gig with a band with no sticks. Thankfully being London there was a local studio that sold sticks ! I also set my kit up at an avenue and realised my hi-hat stand was still at home. Local drummer saved the day. Thank you sir whoever wherever you are. The only two incidents in many years of gigging thankfully.
The beauty of the Rhodes is it's simplicity. You sit and play and enjoy. You concentrate on the music because you know the sound is exactly as it's meant to be. No need to tweak & test & tweak some more to try and get it to sound as close as possible to the sound of an iconic instrument because it already is that iconic instrument. Just because we live in a digital world doesn't mean we have like it. 🤣 But I do love your videos always👍👍
Obviously you can’t beat the original, but the Legend is pretty nice….😊
Not even close to what is played on the record.
Great job Nick but how about wooly bully watch it now 😮
Have you done a review/musical assessment of Nantucket Sleigh ride?
Great vid. I just got a yamaha ck88 and I thought the rhodes sound was s bit dull but its a good match for your rhodes. Now Im happy. The legend is brighter. Could it be an age thing. You mentioned in hammond video that they get duller as they age is it the same with the rhodes?
The Legend is more than fine enough for stage but digital just can’t replicate the nuances that the real electro mechanical pianos have. There just isn’t anything like the real thing.
Great new song and a great review! Many thanks. I’m an old Deep Purple and Jon Lord fan. All respect to Don Airy, who manages to fill these enormous shoes. Also loved the Ken Hensley inspired part of his solo. This new line up with McBride is great.
Yo cant beat the Original rodhes but the other in my opinión is more versátile and practícal for the Studio records. The legend has more high end and the original Rodhes has that low end. Sorry my English
Yes, it's pretty noticable but I guess it could be rectified with some EQ. It also sounded like Legend volume was cranked up so it contibuted to the difference.
Rhodes wins so far
Hi
The "willitzer" organ...??? I always called it the "wurtilizer"...
@@davidgilmour7664 you are correct
Amazing 😊
just found you. Enjoyed the breakdown
I really like this. The song is crisp, tight, excellent arrangement, excellent performance from everyone. Is it me or is big Ian sounding the best he has in many years? I have been following Purple since 1968. The sound is very reminiscent of mk2 from the 1970s. I See Simon is using Engl amps which Ritchie switched to in the 90s. I like how Don did a little quote from Jon in his solo (from Jon's live work). I wasn't sure if Purple should continue after Steve left. But, my doubts have been put to rest. Purple is rocking! Ezrin has done it again. He really is a good fit for Purple. He knows how to get the best out of them. (I like that Paicey is using the Deep Purple logo from the early 70s on his bass drum). Can't wait for the album release.
Although Jazz is my first love, I've always been a Deep Purple Fan. It was my favorite band in my teen years, the 1970s. I stopped paying attention to Rock and Roll in 1985 when I stopped playing music for a living. I haven't bought very much new Rock at all since then. But, I actually love the latest lineup of Deep Purple enough to buy an actual Rock album. I loved Jon Lord's Organ as much as Blackmore's guitar, even though Tenor Saxophone is my main instrument. Looks like your reaction video sold me enough to subscribe! Will check out more of your videos.
Finally, real music. DP rocks, and always will. These people are alien, not from this world.
