Giving a quick explanation of this makes me realize how bad WotC is at writing. The lore is cool. The world is cool. But they have a terrible way of connecting shit. Morons. They will lose it all.

I ... don't think you quite get it. The Underdark is for the dead. It's why the dwarves were chastised by Saruman for "digging a little too deep". You must ask: why are your players there? ALSO, the library at Gravenhollow is something you simply can't comprehend. It's simply not for any level you've comprehended. You'd probably have to be at least level50 to comprehend any of the books there. Think like it's the library of Chtulhu -- you simply won't get it. I mean, honestly, you need to spend a little more time on the street to really get the darkness of this module. Most people simply haven't been through abject poverty, drug addiction, and insanity to understand this module. Try that mini-adventure in your own life, before you open up this D&D campaign and then come back with the wisdom of how to handle it.

My group just finished ToA tonight, I was a player, not the GM. Our GM really cut things back, as we are more story driven rather than dungeon dwellers. After listening to your recap, I'm very glad with how our GM used this as the backbone for our story but added a bunch of his own ideas as well as things that related to our characters.

Me looking at the map - So, how exactly do those trails to Falcon's Hunting Lodge work. Isn't he supposed to keep the nobles safe in if they pass through the forest? 15-20 miles within the forest from the closest trail seems far before being considered "safe".

Those two paths in the beginning are hilarious cause our party just jumped down onto the water below the cells and went down a river tunnel all the way to the koa Toa village, granted we had a bunch of insane encounters along the way.

We actually just called off a OotA campaign miday through the Wormwrithings because I don't remember the exact reasons but I blame the limitations of Talespire. Still had a good time while it lasted. I was a harengon cleric that was secretly one of the hidden library's librarians and also made a deal with the demon lord in it for feindish knowledge. By the way the library has a demon lord in it.

The people who write DnD modules are hacks who couldn't get anything else published. By the time you rework DH to make it playable you'd be better off just inventing your own story from scratch

When my party ran DIA it became a running gag that we were just doing the quest for the Biggoron Sword in Ocarina of Time. The whole Avernus part of the module is just this long sequence of fetch quests until it finally culminates in you getting the best sword in the game.

As someone currently in a DiA campaign, it’s a fantastic module… *if* you have a DM who’s willing to rewrite a good chunk of it. There are a lot of fun people and places and things to do in the book, but the way it ties those things together is often very clunky and narratively unsatisfying.
