    Can i spray my fruit trees after fruit has set and is growing?

  • @ashmorearboretum684
    @ashmorearboretum684Ай бұрын

    Excellent question. And yes, you can, depending on the spray you use. Some of the sprays you can use up to the day before harvest and other state to stop 2 weeks before harvest. The easiest way to tell is to read the label on the spray bottle of your choice. Not all sprays are the same. And you don't want to over spray or use an insecticide when you're dealing with a fungal infection, for example. Thank you for watching!

    I use Garden Marker pens I got on Amazon, they don't fade like Sharpies. I thought this video might be about 'how to tell what type of fruit tree one has'. I have a mystery tree planted in 2023 it was sold online as an 'Italian Plum', but now that it's in flower it looks nothing like one! I'm trying to figure out what it is that I bought and planted 😂, it's happy and thriving whatever it is🤣.

    I will have to pick up one of those markers for my other garden needs. I've found that the embossing tags are just simpler and do not need replacement or touch up. Hopefully you find out what type of tree you have. Please let us know when you do, I enjoy mysteries. Thank you for watching

Do you think it would benefit from covering the pot with a plastic bag to keep the moisture in? I'm bad at regular watering my plants and for such vulnerable ones I usually prefer to use a plastic cover.

    Is it safe to spray my fruit trees with neem oil while they're bloomed? If not what do you recommend?

  • @ashmorearboretum684
    @ashmorearboretum6843 ай бұрын

    I do not spray neem oil during full bloom. I switch to a general purpose spray like Bonide Fruit tree spray or Orchard Spray and follow the labels recommendations for concentrations to use at what stage of development the fruit tree is in (green tip, full bloom, petal fall, etc). I personally try to avoid spraying directly on full blooms because i don't want to disrupt pollination. If you do spray the blooms, i recommend spraying in the evening, once most pollinators have returned to the hives. Thank you for watching!

I'm in Northern New Jersey, its been a very warm winter, im not seeing below freezing in the 2 week forecast so maybe i can plant them in the potato bags outside. Just cover them each night with a blanket or plastic perhaps? Your advice would be most helpful.

  • @ashmorearboretum684
    @ashmorearboretum6844 ай бұрын

    I usually don't have too much of an issue with bugs, but the neem oil is an excellent option for controlling aphids, which i do have. That mixed with a bit of copper sulfate does a pretty decent job of quelling problems before they really get a chance to take hold. We always try to go the organic route first before resorting to synthetic chemicals on our homestead. Thank you for watching.

    Does neem oil injure or kill bees?

  • @ashmorearboretum684
    @ashmorearboretum6849 ай бұрын

    Neem oil is moderately toxic to bees. It's best to use at dawn or just before dusk on your trees to prevent bee exposure. If you have bees present or active on your trees, id be certain to spray closer to dusk. This way the oil has time to dry before bee activity the next morning. This reduces bee exposure and chances of killing your pollinators.

    Hello, thank you for the video. What time of the year do you do each method? How thick should the wood be? Is a sucker or can you use branches, too? Should the cuttings have leaves or not? How do you store the pots and when do they go into soil outside?

  • @ashmorearboretum684
    @ashmorearboretum6849 ай бұрын

    I start taking cuttings in early summer, and i try to layer in late spring/ early summer, too. I prefer canes the diameter of my pinky finger or smaller <1/2". I have had best luck with shoots for layering, and the cuttings can come from young limbs. I store the pots inside in a south facing window as i do not currently have a greenhouse. If they are successfully rooted, I will transplant in late summer after the harshest weather has passed. It is imperative to keep them sufficiently watered until they get established. Thank you for watching and the comment!

    A pork shoulder is also called a port butt or butt. Im quite aware of the anatomy of the pig. Bacon is traditionally made from the pork belly. However, bacon can be made from the pork shoulder (buckboard bacon) and pork loin (Canadian bacon). Different parts of the anatomy have a different term for the bacon, but the PROCESS is still the same. As for smoking, the process is quite simple as i explained the temperatures to keep the smokehouse at to get the smoke, not BBQ meat. Furthermore, wood selection is a personal preference i preferred not to discuss as there are so many variables that it is not worth the effort. Choose a wood type you like and smoke away. I prefer cherry, hickory, pecan, oak, apple/peach/plum/pear. You pick what is locally available. All these are found on my homestead, and i don't have to purchase or put much effort into acquiring. Oh, and there were 2 flavors of bacon in this video: brown sugar and maple syrup, and brown sugar with black pepper. These additives are optional and subjective. To each his own. The length of time the bacon is in the smoker is dependent on each piece of meat. Again I discuss in the video the temperatures the meat is taken to inside my smokehouse prior to removal. The bacon is them chilled before i slice and package the product for storage. Thank you for your comment and for watching.
