Welcome to ReaperTate728's world of comics and games! I have been a comic collector since 1993 and have loved every minute of it. In my vids, I show off new books I buy in haul videos. Sometimes, I might even talk about my perspectives on comic collecting and video games.

    Hey! Happy Birthday (yesterday) Ten years on YT, amazing. We had fun on Wednesday nights chats. I recall most of the big books you showed. Especially when you got AF15, it was so cool it was like I was getting it too. That kinda thing seems absent from ytcc these days. Now its mean spirited drama or only about what hot spec books to buy. Glad you’ve stayed the course in one of the corners of the community.

    As usual Anthony a great video but more importantly a great ten years of videos, ten years is a long time and many things in life happens over a period of time like that, your videos have always been a great watch and have been very important, one thinks particually of the pandemic period when one was looking for some normality and a escape from what was going on in everyday life and when your videos popped up it was for a short period of time an escape from everything that was going on and brought that sense of normality . You have shown some great books over the years and indeed lately some great upgrades to those books , its always evident when you are showing your books that you are sharing them with the viewers and not as some youtubers do in using their videos just as a method of saying " hey look what I have ", its been a great ten years watching your channel Anthony and look forward to future future years of watching them, continue to take care my friend , thank you.

    The number cgc gives is not calculated.Thus it is meaningless.I created a 100 point grading scale where defects are assigned numbers.It is calculated therefore 72 means more than 7.0,for example.Also cgcs way of doing it creates opportunities for fraud.

    CGC cases do not offer any real level of protection. They are not even UV resistant, so that whole "I like them protected" crap is a lie. There are much more secure self encapsulation products that actually offer a high level of protection for your books, like crafti. There are moderate protection offerings, like comic capsule- which is about as secure as a CGC slab, slightly more cuz they're UV resistant and books knock around less in em. CGC's grades have been shown time and time again to be inconsistent, so claiming it's just "that guy" who says you can't trust CGC's grading is ridiculous. Anyone who isn't financially motivated to say otherwise will admit they're incredibly inconsistent and every collector I know that regularly submits has had multiple instances of getting grades back that made no sense with no graders notes. If they were required to have graders notes then maybe your point of you actually knowing what's in the case would hold water, but it doesn't cuz they don't. The only genuine reason anyone cares about CGC grades and tries to defend them is because they want that illusion of secondary market stability. Returns, returns, returns 😂 trying to dress it up and pretend slabbing is anything but an investment is ridiculous.

  • @curtiscamron

    Good philosophy. I like to get my more valuable books graded along with books I plan to sell that would benefit resale wise. Some books the difference between a raw and graded copy in the same condition is a lot of money. Even the biggest haters of slabbed books wouldn’t try to sell an Action Comics 1 raw, you wouldn’t get a premium.

  • @Reapertate728
    @Reapertate72813 күн бұрын

    Absolutely. People sometimes do not want to admit that everything boils down to money. It's about the collecting for sure and the passion, but it is also about the money when dealing with big books.

    I heard. Hmm. Well, i need to do more research on it; if CGC can keep up the quality in their grading, they should be ok. Difficult to tell as of right now. CGC has been around for a while and has been on top for a while; they still will be seen as very legit unless something major happens. Time will tell.

  • @michaelcalabrese2960

    I totally agree. I would like to sell a CGC graded book so I can upgrade to a nicer graded copy. Raw books are very Subjective and Objective. Sometimes I don't always agree with a CGC graded book, so I just don't purchase it.

  • @Reapertate728
    @Reapertate72813 күн бұрын

    Same here. There were times I looked at a grade on a CGC slab and did a hard pass, wondering how that got the grade it got. Most of the time, however, I am happy with the grade and the book.

    I’ve owned a pretty successful, third party pressing business for five years now. I use the money from pressing to pay for the hobby. I submit the majority of books sent to me to CGC. I’m sending batches of books out to be graded semi weekly. CGC is by far the way to go. I disagree that CBCS is better at grading. I’ve found their grading to be more inconsistent and irrational. Especially after Steve Borock left the company. CGC almost always delivers very very thorough grading. Also, the insanely large majority of my grading submissions go perfectly. I’ve had four major problems at CGC out of about 7,000 books graded. And in all cases, the problems were resolved. I was more than happy with my restitution in all cases. My biggest recommendation to collectors is to get your older keys dry cleaned, humidified, and graded. Mostly to avoid tanning, foxing, or any moisture or “drop damage”. But it can greatly increase the value of your collection. Sometimes grading gives you the value bump that can exceed what you invested into pressing and grading it. I personally keep all my major keys slabbed. It’s aesthetically pleasing and I prefer to know the exact GPA of my collection. P.S I’m on my third copy of X-men N° 12. It’s one of my favorite books. I keep upgrading it. Having graded copies definitely helped with that process. I currently have a gorgeous 7.5 White Page copy. I think that’ll stay my forever copy. I used to have an extra attachment to collectibles that I grew up with. But now I don’t have a problem letting them go in order to upgrade that collectible. Or to help me get a comic or vintage toy that’s equally cool or more rare.

  • @Reapertate728
    @Reapertate72813 күн бұрын

    Very good advice for everyone. I think I will follow through with some of your tips to protect older keys for sure. I have found that CGC has a good record although there have been some issues in the past but those can be seen as minimal. Letting go can be therapeutic for many reasons. In this hobby, it is always better to let something go to acquire something better or rarer.

    CGC POSSIBLY DAMAGED MY BOOKS! I haven’t even started to watch the video yet but I already have something to say about this… So back in 2009 I started collecting comics and learned about comic grading. In the next few years I figured out the tips and tricks for comic con signature series. And I REALLY loved the Gold labels. After having a few signatures missing from my books, I decided to take them to the con and have them break the slabs to get them witnessed in another signature and to my surprise there was a long hair behind the cover. I was a little upset seeing as the oil from a hair could mess with the comics ink or if it’s dyed it could bleed into the comic. But ok one hair big whop. He assured me that that never happens but he’s glad we took it out so that it could be resealed without hair this time, after the signatures. Well the next CGC SS that he cracked open for me to get another signature happened had another hair, right behind the cover. Now I’m kind of upset. As he looks through the book he sees that the middle absorbing page was missing. He apologized again and we moved on. The third book on a different day, slab cracked open, hair behind cover page, and only one absorbing page behind the cover. Nothing else. Now I’m not one to complain about CGC all the time. I actually still consider them for getting my comics signed with a witness. But the fact that I’ve seen that scares me. I chose CGC to grade my comics and have them PRESERVED in the state they were in. Not to have them sabotaged. Let’s face it. If we are having a CGC witness a signing and slab and grade it, we aren’t going to be breaking it open in fear that the Signature series would be taken away and only given a green label. So these “mistakes” would potentially never be found. Possibly damaging our books. This is just my experience. But beware… now I’ll watch the rest of this video.

    1st. I have still to own or send any of my preexisting books to get slabbed. Looking forward to it. But not essentially something i feel nessessitates the absolute likelihood that it has got to be. It would be nice. Because it's a incentive to collectors, but after seeing a recent 9.2 cgc spider man on ebay for an exorbitant amount ,that i estimated wasn't worth the $$$ and wasn't near a 9.2,more like a 6-6.7, I feel very disappointed. 😂❤
