I’m going to check out your tent city video when I get a moment, a rare commodity these days. Life is keeping me busy! Meanwhile, some thoughts (this is where my husband winces and taps out)... So if homeless people can’t sleep outside… where are they supposed to sleep? Or is that a privilege they aren’t allowed? Can we also criminalize them pooping? Eating? Breathing? Existing? You see where this is going, right? While it would be good to shine a light on this issue, I worry that not having them on public places like Sunset Blvd will just give cover to the problem and the issues that cause it. Out of sight out of mind, meanwhile simply sleeping has been criminalized. WTF kind of dystopian nightmare are we living in? Here’s a thought… maybe instead of punishing the homeless for being homeless instead we put our efforts and $$$ in addressing the core issues that leave people unhoused. It’s time to make housing affordable again, require ALL jobs pay a livable wage and limit insane profit margins on the backs of the working class. Just spit ballin’, here. Oh… and end the corporate hoarding and direct resources to making sure all needs (financial, physical and mental health, addiction treatment, shelter and food, etc,) are provided to ANYONE that needs them. Make sure that housing is affordable, and for fucks sake… take profit out of health care, the justice system and education. How about corporations that have even a single employee in need of public assistance get heavily taxed. The greed of those at the top of the “food chain” will bleed our country dry and leave nothing but corpses behind. These gluttons are not smart people, they're self serving and slavishly focused in immediate gratification. The problem isn’t the homeless and their tents on the sidewalks, it’s the greedy MFer’s that profit off of putting them there.
Yep. . It is truth at more needs to be done. To your point. This is where voting and city government comes into place.
