The video you have the comments turned off on the like a 50 versus the like a 50. Why is it constantly dinging? You can't watch the video because of the audio dings in the background. I thought it was a warning chime on my car driving. Well it looks like could be a good video you can't pay attention to because of the constant dings. Try to take it down and redo it. I bet it would be a hit

you only shoot close ups , lenses have different quality depending on how far the subject is , some or most Zoom lenses even change Focal Length with focus so if you focus close you get 100mm say , and if you zoom out you get 150mm lens , so 2 different lenses . This is why is say testing it only close up is insufficient , things can change

The shots were all with max aperture? I think if you step up a bit, you would get no vignetting and better sharpness.

This lens is NOT the same as Dr Rudolph's original double-Gauss Planar design. It has an asymmetrical design of 7 elements in 6 groups. There are 4 separate elements in front of the iris, and 3 behind it, with one group being a cemented doublet. The optical performance of this revised Planar is far better than the old 6 element/4 group design.

Even if Apple makes good products sometimes we wonder if the engineers took their breakfast in the morning before going to work because to change a hard drive you have to disassemble everything until you remove the screen must still not laugh We can criticize the PCs nevertheless we just have a hatch to open to change the hard drive and the ram ... And in addition you will notice that at that time he put the apples upside down because when the Mac is turned on the apple is found upside down for the person in front MDR but hey we will say that it was still the beginning of the Apple epic ....

I am surprised you have a copy with no play in the focus rack. I have had at least three of these and all three have had play when you change rotation of the focus ring. At one time, back in the early 1980's I had a Rolleiflex sl35E with seven Rollei Zeiss and Carl Zeiss lenses and all the Rollei Zeiss lenses suffered this play. I have had the same in the SLX lenses I have had. I used to think this was only a Rollei problem as I have never noticed this with Canon or Pentax lenses. That is until I purchased the later versions of the Pentax 67 lenses which have similar issue. However, I have to say the performance of all Rollei lenses was always good. Sadly I do not have any of these lenses today, I wish I had not sold them in the 1980's. The HFT coating was developed with Zeiss and for all purposes is the same as their T* coating. People should remember that by the time your lens was made, quite an old lens design but it still produced a competitive performance with more modern designs of the 1970's. So well done Zeiss. I did enjoy the video.

My apologies, Zeiss started manufacturing it in 1968 (in the Voigtlander factory) so it was not all that old a design but some of the Japanese manufacture's did come to the market with lenses after and the point I was making was the design of the lens was a really good one, it stood the test of time. Rollei started manufacturing the lens in 1974.

I have the Jupiter 9, it is a superb lens faithful to the Sonnar design. Soft at full aperture, then at f4 it suddenly starts to become really sharp with increasing contrast down to f22. I use mine with a very deep lens hood and have no problems with flare from off axis lighting. If you look at the Mir (Flektagon) Helios (Biotar) and Jupiter (Sonnar) they all have similar characteristics with individually beautiful bokeh. I have all three as part of my permanent collection.

Merci, thanks, I have this lens! QBM old version, before 1975, all metal (it's not marked HFT in red on the front),, it is not a formula 7 elements in 6 groups? I don't like to use full open optics! I always close a one stop, even 2 stops, the photos are often much sharper and more homogeneous at f2.8, there is still bokeh (I'm not crazy about bokeh, as long as it's smooth) and I prefer sharpness, otherwise why use Zeiss?.I did a test at f2, very surprised at the quality already! ,, sorry for my English

How do you tell it was made by Chinon? I have one of these lenses and can't seem to find a way to identify the actual manufacturer.

While I confirm it's short comings, I have a very special feeling about the images it produces. I mean, like looking at the whole picture. It's very nice, indeed. I have the original Chinon brand, which is exactly the same as this one, and I won't trade it. I have also the FA 35 f2, that is a very good lens, but still, they produce different type of images. Thank you for the review

Thanks for your review, I have a silver 2.8 as well - Tell me, do I start from the front or from the back to reach the helicoid to re-lube? No screws are showing anywhere... So should go front the front removing the nameplate etc, or from the back, there are 2 marks for inserting a calliper but... The aperture ring is turning fine, focusing is stiff.

Thanks very much for the review. You appear to have version 2 of this lens. It focuses between 0.36 (1.2ft) and 10m (30ft). It has 9 aperture blades. I have version 1.2 which focuses between 0.35 (1.15ft) and 10m (33ft) - that’s how it’s marked on the lens. My lens also has 9 aperture blades. Another strange marking is the vanity ring. My version says Jena F 1:2.8 f = 35 Nr. 4425011 and it’s in Exacta mount. I also own the modern 35mm f2.4 version. It’s a completely different animal. 😊

Thank you for this review. I recently discovered these cameras and really like them. The lenses are particularly beautiful in design and manufacture, and can be adapted to digital cameras, which provides some relief from concerns about developing problems with the camera body itself, which is as you noted, complex, and will likely become increasingly difficult to repair.
