  First, TR 4 is way too long and tedious, and being locked in Egypt for almost 40 levels doesn't help either. Second, the first 1/4 part of the game (up until Alexandria / Coastal region / Lost library) is fine, the rest 3/4 is just plain frustration. It is frustration after frustration without a guide-book / walkthrough. For me TR 1 is great, TR 2 is the best for being more polished, with Temple of Xian being the pinnacle of TR level design. From TR 3 onward, the level designers are just on crack. Really don't share the appeal of TR 4 after all these years.

  And not to mention the infuriating OVERUSE of jump-scare music on almost every enemy spawn! They are everywhere! A museum guard , a dog , even a crow come with the music like a Nemesis spawned ! This is extremely annoying.

  I know all 3 of the OG TRs by heart and TR3 is by far my favorite to replay. The levels are far more interesting, varied, and challenging than anything in the first 2 games. The design choices that make TR1 and 2 much better first playthrough experiences actually make them much less interesting to replay, since they're just not that interesting once you know what to do. TR3 still packs a good challenge even when you know the level layouts, traps and enemy placements by heart. I really, really like the new game plus mode for TR3 in the new remastered version (all weapons from start, no med packs, tougher enemies, crystals are the only way to save and heal). It rewards you for being careful and seeing how many tricky sections you can make it through before saving.

  Had to re-watch this after completing the remastered. Oh my god TR3 is definitely not a good game. The rant is totally on point here. TR1 is a timeless masterpiece, TR2 is still lots of fun but TR3? Trial and error BS with tons of jank. I hate it, lol.

  Okaaaayyyy, not once did any of the points presented here occur to me as I played this game. I enjoyed. Simply turned it on and enjoyed it. ... I take that back - I never got lost in this game like I did in the first game.

  I didnt have an issue figuring out the floor triggers in Maria Doria. I think in remastered visuals the floor triggers are more distinct. And it was easy for me to figure out with the cutscene hint

  I did not mind the snow mobile controls actually. Use the d-pad and it’s very manageable to control it precisely how you want it to. But yea that ramp blocked by a slab is just cruel level design 🙄

  Just finished playing through the remastered version yesterday. The remaster makes it soo much more visually tolerable imo. The classic visuals rly aged terribly, espeically the Maria Doria levels and the Tibetan levels. A lot of eyesores 😣 A lot of the environmental puzzles in this game felt too obscure. I ended up resorting to guide a lot. and it didnt feel like a Tomb Raider game until the last couple of levels when I got to the monk temple. It was overall a really engaging game though. The game really does encourage exploring every nook and cranny and entering new levels give this amazing sense of awe and being lost. I can def see why it was such a beloved classic. But I highly doubt many ppl managed to get to the ending. The difficulty spikes are no joke in this game. And the final two levels requiring this janky mechanic of flipping in mid-air while climbing a ladder to grab the ladder behind her was such a pain.

  Wait what? The sprint button helps you accelerate the quad bike in place? I beat this game 20+ times and I never knew that ... I just always tried to accelerate while making a u-turn

  I like this game. I like this trilogy even. I think there's a lot in these games that even still has the overall spirit of the franchise at its core That being said. I prefer nearly every classic Tomb Raider game over them. I'll play these games before I ever touch Chronicles or Angel of darkness again. Honestly probably put them on par with the last revelation because that one to me is also just as flawed as it is enjoyable But these are fine cinematic action games. It's just that, that's not really what I look for from Tomb Raider. I want to explore. I want to feel like I am in some exotic locale seeing things that nobody has seen for centuries if not thousands of years And most importantly. This new Lara Croft.... Is just not Lara Croft. She's a fine character if she was someone else, Ann Coulter perhaps. But the Lara Croft I grew up knowing and loving was a sassy, cocky, sarcastic, billionaire genius adrenaline junkie, who is quite possibly insane and ends up saving the world usually inadvertently rather than because of some sense of responsibility. She was a badass by choice Ann is yet another hero that has to be forged from trauma. And it's done fine, but not exceptional. And it's just nowhere near as fun as the original character. But I can't say I didn't have fun playing this game either.

  There was a big missed opportunity for her to wear her classic outfit in the 1st stage and in the Siberian wilderness her TR3 Antarctica jacket (With a hood added but the jacket in Siberia was fine for me)
