Hello 👋 and welcome to my channel!
Over the past few years I have slowly been turning Yogi, my Nissan NV200 van, into my dream micro camper, suitable for holidays, weekends away & days out around Cornwall!
I've been insulating, carpeting & building furniture, whilst adding the essentials & a few interesting extras to make it into a comfortable campervan. I've filmed it all along the way & also make videos on different van and adventure topics.

Hi i have a old minivan 2002 pontiac montana. I cant get my new rimoody mp5 to work with reverse camera. I did use a scosche wireing kit. At first nothing worked until i ran my own 12v ignition wire to fuse box. Also steering wheel controlls do not work. After dealing with these issues im thinking the old van is not putting out a signal for backup wire im gonna get a circut tester so i can figure this out.
Best rear cam tutorial ever! thank you!
Thanks!
how tall you are? i wondering if i sit two of mattresses, i don't want hit my head to the roof 😅 i'm 180cm
You would likely be too tall to sit up in a Nissan NV200 unless you lower the bed below the wheel arches. I'm 5'6 (152cm) and there's a couple of inches above my head when I sit up, and that's with one 4 inch mattress beneath me. Hope that helps
Very nice, very clear tutorial!
Thanks!
Remove everyday in summer. My suction cup will no longer stick
That's a shame, I've used it over summer and had no problems at all
so my concerns would be screen glare for passengers, for people who don't want to remove the device all the time hot summers would likely damage the battery, do you know if either of these issues are addressed?
Hi, the screen is dimmable so glare isn't much of a problem, plus with night mode on maps it the screen is quite dark, and it doesn't have a battery in it so nothing to worry about there

What a great little build with some awesome easy ideas, thanks for sharing :)
Love your method here especially the templates. “I’d LOVE to see how you would make the same covers but with magnets to hold them in place.” How would you attach them if you have a binding on the edge rather than a fabric cover with magnets sewn in. Even sewn in I’m not sure how to do that.
When you showed the iq vid vs the 622gw i thought the vid on the 622gw was better? I can see it obscuring alot of people's windscreen's due to its size!! I agree it has some cool feature's but im still not 100% sold on it 🤷♂️
The video makes it look bigger, it is still small and sometimes un-noticable. Sometimes i forget its there
I'm not sure how I managed that but you're right, I really don't notice it!
I've had the 4k version from release in November as well as the rear camera when it was released. It has come along way since and as of today Guardian Mode was released in the last update.. I can't wait for roadwatch ai.. it is expensive and the top subscription is also but it is worth it in my opinion.. I am always remote checking in on the car when left in car parks.. it took a while too get my settings right but now it's 👌 would I recommend it.. definitely..
You wasted a lot of material by placing your paper-model in the centre of the fabric. But the idea itself is great any I will copy it for myself. Thanks.
Only issue is the lettering in the frame
Did the rubber u-channel edging trim still hold after a few years ?
Yes, I'm pleased to say it's still holding as well as the day I stuck it down!
Nice bed build, thanks for sharing! Question, where do you leave your surfboard when you've pulled out the bed to sleep? Or do you not bring the board on trips?
Thanks, I don't always bring the board but I strap it to the roof bars or slide it under the van
amazing build! how did you determine the number of slats?
Thanks! You can have as many slats as you like but I wanted to make sure they're thick enough to be strong but not too thick so the gap between the slats is huge, making the bed uncomfortable

Great stuff James. Love your style. Cheers.
could you tell the dimensions of the bed 🙂
It's 183cm long, 56 cm wide when closed and 150cm wide when fully pulled out
@@LensOfJames how much wood i should buy about? (meters?) i have nv 200 also, and this look compact, btw how tall are you?
@@LensOfJames how it can be 150cm if wheel arch to wheel arch is 143,5cm 😅
Width of the van at its widest part is 150cm (side door to side door), measure from a narrower part and it'll be less 🤷🏻♂️ (2:19 kzread.info/dash/bejne/dX6ZmtKgca7dqNo.htmlsi=33beBFQdgv-7JrWI)
I wouldn't want to take the fun out of your build for you 👍
Brilliant video, this answers many questions and is easy to follow.
I've been a cycling (bicycle) and camping digital nomad for 13 years now. I wonder whether all this insulation, carpeting and paneling is worth the time, effort and expense. I do need a flat surface for my 1 cm thick camping mat but other than that, extra clothing in winter and four walls against the wind would be enough for me, I believe. Of course, I'm generally a minimalist and "anti-accessories" type, would love to have just a tatami room and a big suitcase and a couple of bags. Just seems like a lot of waste and substance abuse, all that glue and all the trappings.
Fair play, the beauty of van conversions is they can be all shapes and sizes, and tailored to everyone's needs 🚐
Good 411
This is almost exactly how I want to convert my van! Saving this playlist! Subbed!
Thanks, appreciate the sub, good luck with your build! 🚐
Good job man, good job! Liked and subscribed…..!
A question, how do you take a picture with the 622gw
From the manual: "Tap the centre of the screen to take a photo. This applies while recording and while in video mode. If a Rear Cam is attached, touch the centre of the Front Facing view to take a photo. This will save 2 photos, one from the Front Facing camera, and one from the Rear Facing camera."
Nice method, thank you.
That is not carpet that is some kind of fabric. It almost looks like felt.
You're not wrong, it definitely feels like felt! It's called 4-way-stretch automotive carpet and is really nice to work with
Why did you leave the fact that they all require a monthly subscription till the end of the video? This should been made clear right at the start ......
Would you have watched the rest of the video if I did? But seriously, I put chapters in all my videos so you can easily find the section which is most relevant to you without watching the whole thing 👍
So clearly explained and straight to the point. Great instructional video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
That’s amazing work! I’m looking to make my own window covers for my Honda Element because without them it has been very difficult to have any peace during rest times and also the extreme heat is misery. Thank you for taking the time to video your process and wonderful idea. I’m so relieved to have a better idea of ways to make my DIY project go smoother than I ever imagined. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Maybe I too will have some videos on KZread to help others like you are helping me and so many others. I’m sure of it! Thank you again! 😊
when is camera first launch had major problems , especially with the rear camera and connection to Vodafone in the uk . As of june 2024 can you now confirm with the latest software update eu-r2.1.14 that all these problems have now been resolved . The problem I am talking about rear camera not working most of the time . Slow connection through the Vodafone network. Rear camera not even being recognised . Camera crashing . The app was full of bugs . And generally the whole performance which are very very poor . Compared to other popular brands . I agree the potential of this camera is amazing but at the time when I purchased this camera just over six months ago it was a total nightmare . I would love to purchase this product again but I'm worried the problems haven't been sorted out . somebody give me an update ... Uk customer ...
this is so helpful
Brilliant video, thanks for explaining all the features
Most of that gap is from the bolt and hinge plates. Cut the Hinge so that door side is short (or use t-strap hinges). Inset the hinge on the door. Inset it at the fully closed depth so that it sits on the seat/bracket face. Grind down the bolt head, or use a different type, carriage, connector, or cap bolt, or drill a clearance hole for the bolt head. TBH I thought the holes in the seat were threaded so i was confused on why you needed a nut.
Good review, finally got my replacement after fighting with customer service on amazon AND direct, both told me to contact one other lol. Mine stopped working only after 3 months, did some researching and could find 3 others that had that happen too, only who I know about and found online, so who knows how reliable this actually is, def dont look forward to testing it in the heat after it randomly died in the spring (yes, it took me 2 months of back and forth to get a warranty replacement). If it wasnt so expensive, I would have just taken the L, but its 4 months worth of filling my car up with gas, so you know I at least wanted a 2nd try with this but i honestly was ready to buy a cheaper one, but from a better known brand lol
Messy is an understatement
Brilliant job. I've just bought an Opel Combo panel van that's a similiar size to your NV200. Having watched many YT videos of conversions, I'm going to go with your build. It's really practical, simple and maximises space. Too many vans are cluttered with needless stuff. Some people want to replicate their home in their van. I still want to 'camp' in mine.
Thanks, good luck with your conversion!
Good tips thanks for the video
Great tips! What kind of carpet is that? I’m having a hard time finding stuff that isn’t the scratchy stuff for boats
Thanks, it's 4 way stretch automotive carpet: amzn.to/3ncNHEP (affiliate link)
have one NV200 too, Im not verry satisfied with my solution. Using 4 great boxes for the stuff and a folding layer for the night. Ist allways uncomfortable to remove the layer, if you want to get your stuff out of the boxes. I need a more comfortable system. Yours is a great inspiration. THY for sharing.
Hello, I have the 522GW and I’m thinking of getting the IQ now, my only issue is with the 522gw I have a stop start car so camera keeps restarting whenever the engine goes into eco mode and restarts, I’ve tried asking re constant power and was told wasn’t possible and stop/start shouldn’t be an issue. Am I correct in assuming this is a constant power feed, as in video you said it switches off when engine is switched off ? Also in emergency situations I’ve found the 522gw only does 5 seconds before incident instead of the previous 30 seconds on earlier models? What’s the accident / save incident timeframe before and after incident ?
Interesting questions, I'll have a look into them and get back to you in a few days.
So I've had a look at my iQ and, whilst I don't have a stop/start vehicle, what I've noticed is that if I was to stop for a while (i.e. minutes) with the engine on it goes into parking mode, which I assume it would with a start/stop car, however when I drive off the dash cam starts recording again. It's not like traditional dash cams where it's either on or off - it will detect things going on around you even if it says it's in parking mode. You'd have to ask Nextbase about the timeframe for accidents, I've looked through the manual but can't see the information. Hope that's helps
Obviously vehicle dependent, but if your car has a switched fuse for your cigarette lighter, wire it into that as your cigarette lighter doesn’t turn off when your car stops due to stop start
Thank you! I love this info-centric video style! Am subscribed, you're a great teacher, fun and to the point. I finally feel like I can do this!!
Would you recommend this product or wait till more releases come to get rid of the bugs? I was also concerned the actual dash cam would be a target to break into your car and steal it?
Hi, yes I'm really happy with mine. The latest firmware update has cleared up the last of the issues for me and it works perfectly now. That's an interesting point, I don't live in a high crime area but I suppose if someone wants to steal something they will - at least you'll catch them on camera!
Hi James, your video was really helpful and I have now made covers for all my van windows. The best tip was using smaller pieces of paper to make the template as even a slight wind made it difficult.I found it easier to work from the outside windows for all covers
Genius
Whatever, this is just for storage and to sleep in, where is the fridge, sink and burner as a minimum, waste of my time watching
It’s too big for my windshield. The rear cam is questionable at most times. Subscrtion is stupid, but you’re basically paying for 4g service and is nice to have. If it wasn’t so big, I’d keep it, but it’s on eBay
That's fair enough, it is a bit bigger than other dash cams. I've heard that they've fixed the rear cam issues in the latest firmware update - mine didn't always connect but is working perfectly now.
This is ugly and needs an even bigger cable and plug.
Can't please everyone!
Why on earth do we need to install yet another OBD cable why can we not use the cable from the 622gw camera. The cable and plug for this is MASSIVE!
I don't know why they've done this, one to ask Nextbase about! My 622GW used a USB or 12v port so it's nice to have OBD option to free up a port, and you really don't see the cable or plug when it's in use as the majority of it is hidden.
Just removing the bed frees up the majority of the space you’d ever need. Turnbuckles was a great idea!
Glad you think so too, worked a treat for me!
