I was just commenting the other day at r/chess how impressive it is that your mom has competed at the top levels of chess for decades. Despite that blunder in rd 5 her games have been good if maybe a bit passive as you said. And that was a great win today for Pia and great to see. Congrats! Go Pia for rd. 7!

Truly impressive. Like Anna said, most of Pia's generation of chess players retired decades ago. That she is performing this well as the lowest rated player is incredible. Especially winning an armagaddon when you didn't even know what it was on day 1. Also props to her support network. It is in fact also impressive that both Cramling's have been professional chess players their entire lives. Pretty sure tournament winnings weren't very big back in the 80s.

Wow. It's amazing to hear Pia analyze the game -- so quickly and incisively. I once had a friend translate Spanish in real time for me at a public event and for a moment I felt like I kind of actually understood Spanish, which I didn't. Much the same here. With Pia articulating the logic, it's almost as if I could logic it out myself, which obviously I can't at all. Anyway, what a privilege.

Anna, if you can follow my logic: the very fact that people are asking why there are [so] few women GMs is in itself a positive sign. Years ago nobody would have asked that question. The answer was considered as self-evident, for the reasons you mentioned today: either women were barred from playing or men thought women weren't smart enough or didn't have any business playing in serious competitions. So nobody bothered asking. Now they do ask, and that's good. The question shows that times have changed.
