My best guess is to land a job in a small to midsize law firm so you can have the chance to do REAL legal work from the beginning, to LEARN THE ROPES from day one instead of being the personal secretary of a Partner in a big law firm, doing the dirty work the Partner does not want to do, just reading extensive and boring documents and summarizing its contents to the Partner. This is especially true for trial lawyers, the more time you spend in the Courts litigating instead of in the office highlighting contents of a document to a partner, the more skilled and better lawyer you will be. I also believe that the Justice Dept. in Washington DC is a very good training setting for a lawyer starting his/her career. The pay is definitively not as good as in a big law firm, but that is the time to concentrate in your learning curve instead of the potential income. The high income will come later, when a law firm will be interested in your accumulated experience litigating on behalf of the government.

I love your videos. I was wondering and you may have addressed this in another video, but after attending Stanford and with your undergrad and Mater's, did you end up with a lot of school loan debt? I'm sure Stanford is so expensive. Always worried about taking out too much or how much is too much? Thanks!

If Stanford Law assigns mentors, then they are a great school. I wish the school I went to did that. They operated like a frat party and it was every man for himself. Needless to say it was toxic and not helpful.

thank you so much for this super informative video. Can you talk more about how this clerkship supports your future professional goals? (are you going into litigation?) does it help specific fields more than others? is it useful for transactional lawyers? how was the experience in terms of work-life balance?
