As a swimmer who did not compete at all before the age of 24, I've always held a grudge on the olympics ever since 2008. And that's because although I do agree that we should go full "Rocky" in our practices, the structure is not adapted to everyone. An athlete will easily qualify because ever since he began like as a baby and competed since six years old, he has had the sting to naïvely be good and thus he or she is a "Cinderella story" in broadcasted events like the olympics. But someone who kind of just does basic swimming lessons since the age of 9 or 12 for example and just kinds of wants to aim for the olympics realising that youngsters a little older than him are in the league, just to be thinking of this in a bad timing is kind of doomed from the start because we all wanted to feel free doing other things outsanding than our daily life routine. Yes, apart from being trained till worned out, I wanted to have entitlement, visit a new country and befriend athletes from other nations. But since I've never experienced nothing of it (and yes, maybe for the better), I can't stop feeling irritated and shrinked by how most people has to rely on a small window of opportunity which is determined by the specific compete events that I still don't understand how it works or are mostly coming from an specific program which is for, you guessed it, people who started early. Thus, no newcomers allowed in most circumstances. Yes I know it demands sacrifice, but sometimes I've got a feeling that even for provincial championships (coming from Canada by the way), it demands more than just trying to be yourself and have fun and try to be the best of the best for at least being proud of how high you're trying to get.

You definitely didn’t watch the European champs!!! I’ve watched all of your pre Olympic videos (thank you, I do love your insights) and you have refrained to mention them when speaking about: Dina (double gold), Daryl (gold & silver), Doon (gold), Marcel (double gold) … Simonelli (gold). Tamberi- an incredible gold!!! Tamberi is a big stage performer. As is Bashim. You did mention Tentoglou’s performance but not Mihambo’s at the European champs. And how could you leave Spanovic out of the long jump convo?!

Thanks for this video. All these podcasts always forget the field events. It’s so frustrating.

    Despite it was empirically predicted that Shericka Jackson has 73% (77%) probability of a first-place (third-place) finish in the 100-meter feat, there was a stubborn doubt that her state of readiness is even "satisficing." (The predictions were meant to be abstractly aspirational). Given Jackson's weight being in the upper-bound of her empirical-body-mass range (164 pounds),¹ she has an acceleration rate (87%)² to easily scale at 10.76 (± 0.12550) seconds³ over 100 meters. Over 200 meters, given Jacckson's body-mass volume of 164 pounds,¹ she can scale at 21.96 (± 0.27277) seconds:⁴ that is, she can scale optimally at 21.69 or suboptimally at 22.23 seconds in the 200-meter sprint. ___NB_____________ ¹164 ≈ [106 + (6 × 8)] ±10 pounds; lower bound: 144, upper bound: 164 ²87% ≈ 0.866205845 = (∆v/∆t) = (((100/10.84) - (100/10.65)) ÷ (10.84 - 10.65))) ³10.76 ≈ 10.759881744 = [10.84 × (((1- ((100/((164² + 164)/2)))] ⁴21.96 ≈ 21.960509977 = [22.29 × ((1 - ((200/((164² + 164)/2)))]
