The scenarios that you laid out are the best scenarios for gold. Men: Coleman - Kerley - Bednarek - Lyles The caveat here is that the first handoff (Coleman-Kerley) has been spotty to dangerous (Coleman ran all up on Kerley's back). Although Bednarek is not enthusiastic about running the third leg, that is the difference between just gold and the American Record (37.10)/WR. No team besides the Jamaicans can match that foot speed (Kishane Thompson is the variable in this equation). Women: Jefferson - Terry - Thomas - Richardson Depending on when the 200m final is scheduled, I would run the 3 100m team members (since none qualified for the 200m) in the prelim with a swap out of Thomas for Davis or Clark. I'd run the 2nd team as much as possible. Thomas made her case for the 4x400m relay team in the Bahamas as well, and she may be needed more there (K. Brown - Thomas - Ellis - SML). Question: Are we going to get a test run at the Paris DL or Monaco of the relays before the Olympics? As always, excellent analysis and straight-forward presentation that engenders dialogue.

She’s in the wrong leg anyway. With her 400/200 legs she she be on 2nd but she didn’t run down Shelly Ann or hold off Shericka Jackson. She also hasn’t run anything near under 10. Exactly which is why Gabby deserves a spot. She can run almost any leg (except lead off) and has proven that despite a slower PB on paper, she is one of the fastest from a flying start. Same thing (king of) applies to Kenny B though he ofcouse is one of the fastest guys right now, but his versatility and ability to handle the baton is extremely important. It should be VERY clear that that 4 fastest people does not always mean the best 4x100 relay. Which is also why Erriyon Knighton should enter the conversation at somepoint.

The best finishers at the actual Olympic Game will, in my mind base on rules and past actions may replace two who had run heats and semi-finals. Coleman, KB, 4th place finisher in 200M; then Noah to match the Caribbean, and the rest of the world to the finish line. I love how Italy had taken the Gold in Tokyo on the line. For the men's 100 meters, I favor Coleman, Bednarek, Lindsey, and Lyles. Kerley has been outperformed too often, and Lindsey would be a better option. Regarding Knighton, I don't want to risk having medals revoked due to his pending investigation. Otherwise, I'd be perfectly fine with him on the team. I say if it ain't broke don't fix it. They would have broken that world record last year if they had better handoffs. I will say that Tamari to MJ to Tee Tee to Sha'carri is intriguing. Tee Tee is a really good curve runner and I believe MJ is legitimately the second fastest woman in the Olympics this year, plus she's mentally powerful. Sha'carri won't need much because she has closing speed and will track down anyone in front of her, hypothetically speaking. Imagine the first three legs blowing it away early. We're looking at a new world record. Sha'carri, make sure you run through that line with everything you got. As far as the guys are concerned, I really don't care who you put at 2nd and 3rd, 1st and anchor is a lock for me too. Barring injury and premature celebrations I'm seeing world-record implications from both teams. It's all about the handoffs and finishing strong. Noah, Sha'carri run until you end up in the first exchange zone. Hell, run until you end up at the top row of the bleachers. Run until you end up in the parking lot. Hell, run until you end up back at the airport. I think y'all catch my drift🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

For men 1st leg Coleman his start is very fast to get away from a lot of first leg. 2nd leg Fred Kerley his finishing and top-speed is good combined with his endurance to maintain his speed for longer which can chase down lots of athletes. 3rd leg Bednarek or knighton both are good at the curve as we saw both in the 200m curve. Anchor leg Lyle’s, his top speed is just unstoppable. The biggest threat will be Jamaica 4x1 since ackeem Blake who’s a good starter Seville, kishane Thompson both are really good at top speed could be a challenging team for the U.S. If Thompson is the anchor then it could challenge Lyle’s top speed since Thompson hit 9.77. Coleman will be able to get away or catch Ackeem Blake. Oblique Seville might keep up with kerley. But idk if kishame Thompson will be part of the relay or not? I feel like the U.S 4x100 and 100m is going to be challenging from the 9.82 Seville 9.77 Thompson. We just gotta hope for good baton pass for the team.

The problem with the USA team is their coordination as a team, Putting athletes who run fast individually doesn't matter, you have to practice as a team and build the coordination. Either the Individual athletes should do that or they should build a seperate team for the relays, who maybe are slightly slower but can practice as a team.

I agree but if you look at 2019 USA team they had 9.76 Coleman Old Rodgers Old Gatlin and Young inexperienced Noah Lyle’s on anchor. That team ran 37.10 none of them ran under 9.9 other then Coleman. Look at this years 100 meters it’s stacked compared to that. Noah Lyle’s way faster now than before. Benerak peaking and could run low 9.8. Kerley can also run mid to low 9.8 and Coleman is in 9.92 possibly high 9.8 form. This the most stacked 4x100 we’ve seen. They get the passes right i could see them running 36.9 idk about world record but they should definitely go under 37 and win gold

US sprint fans all remember the Olympic and WC fiascos with Muna Lee, Doc Patton, English Gardner, Mike Rodgers etc - and the near disaster in the qualifying round at Rio - but you're right lately things look corrected and fixed. The relay camps are working. Don't fix what ain't broke as they say: Christian, Fred, Kenny, Noah can go much faster imo because Kenny is at the top of his game. Same team with the ladies tho. No swaps. Melissa, TT, Gabby, and Sha' Carri should also go faster because of the experience of previously running together. My biggest concern is our qualifying teams. Who are in the relay pools?

I have never seen anyome run thay bend as well as Erroiyon did earlier in the season, if he hits peak form which he would before Paris, without distrupting the balance, the natural selection imo is Coleman-Kenny-Erriyon-Lyles and only father time knows how fast that team will run as its unbeatable. But a wild suggestion especially if we keep Kenny on 2nd leg and Fred not so great on the bend is moving Lyles to 3rd leg. We have never seen hin run it but the greatest 200m runner since Usain surely on paper should run that bend better than anyone in the world right now, in Eugene he practically smoked everyone on that bend to win the WC and break the American record .
