Liberation theology is an infiltration of Marxism into Catholic affairs. The hierarchy was correct. Look at how callous and brutal Guevara actually was . He enjoyed killing people. He was a psycho not a hero.

🔥 The "Dirty War" wasn't dirty!! The Argentinian Army fought against t3rr0rists marxisr organizations like MONTONEROS and ERP (Ejército Revoluciónario del Pueblo) who killed and kidnapped people, put b0mbbs, robbed banks to purchase weapons Rodolfo Walsh was a t3rr0r1st of MONTONEROS. He was not murdered, he died in a confrontation against legal security forces of Argentina

The whole issue cannot be separated from the fact that in the mid 20th Century, prior to publishing alterations to the nation's constitution, it had to be reviewed and approved by the Roman Catholic Archbiship. Ireland was a theocracy.

What isn't mentioned here is the part played by the Tejano's in the actual fight and their sacrifice. Yes the 'Holy Trinity' were there, but also people like Gregorio Esparza were a very significant part of the Texian force.

The Irish-Argentines can be proud to have opposed the Montoneros and communists in the 1970's. And why should they want to give away what they had earned, in some socialist program, like what was proposed by Peron and other left-wingers?

I was given an Xmas gift of a gift certificate to a music store in Concord New Hampshire, wish I could remember the name, it was sometime in the late seventies or the early 80s. I can't remember how old I was, but I'd been listening to WBCN boston, thank god their signal was powerful enough to reach Chichester, a shit hole of stagnation and ignorance and intolerance. I spent a long, long time poring over the LPs, agonizing over which LP to get.....the gift certificate would only barely cover the price of one LP, we were a lower class family. I selected Freedom of Choice, and the patient polite friendly sales clerk gave me a beaming smile, and said, "A real classic". He meant it totally seriously, and he was correct, every track was perfect and packed with meaning, at least to me. This LP helped me to survive, which may or may not be a good thing.

Crockett was not horrible. He was charismatic and had ethics. His political career ended because he clashed with Jackson and opposed the Indian Removal Act. He said 'my decision would not make me ashamed in the Day of Judgment.” I personally think Crockett's fame got him trapped at the Alamo, a perspective encouraged by the 2004 film and Thorton's terribly underrated performance..

We are about 1M Irish descendants in Argentina. I went to an Irish school in Argentina and my house was Munster. I had a thick Irish accent as a child and was taught the 32 counties as well as the lives of many Irish Saints. Saint Columba, Columban, Kirean and Brendan. My family came from Ireland right after the potato famine in 1851 and my grandfather was a Grandson of 4 Irish born Grandparents as many of them were from Meath, West Meath and Offaly. As noted in the video indeed the immigrants were quite well educated and all became very wealthy farmers in 10's of thousands of acres.

I was born in the North of England in 1945. My parents were Irish speaking from Connemara. We lived in what you would now call an Irish ghetto, but didn’t realize it growing up with lots of Irish speaking relatives and friends. At the time Catholics went catholic schools and Protestants went to Protestant schools, and Irish history was never taught. We came to America in 1958 with the help from our Irish relatives who had immigrated here. I was intrigued listening to Brian Dooley and plan to read his book. Growing up in England, even though I was pretty smart in school, I learned nothing about Ireland and it’s history. At home we heard about leprechauns, etc., sang lots of sad Irish music, drank lots of tea and ate Irish bread, but I never heard anything about the famine or the troubles. My father was a laborer, came from a family of sixteen, most of them left Ireland in their teens and were never heard from again. However, I do remember feeling “less than” amongst English protestants. Embarrassingly, until the age of fifty I knew only the commercial ideologies about Ireland. When I mentioned this to a friend who teaches a college course on cultural awareness she said “that’s because the Irish didn’t talk about.” Today I read and watch everything pertaining to Ireland and it’s history. It is all part of my identity, and I’m grateful to those who went before.

A really interesting interview. To think that an accent would identify your nationality must be unique to the Irish! Surely, the "second generation Irish" would have been Irish by ethnicity even if British by citizenship, irrespective of their accents? Why did the IRA never establish and International Brigade as was done in the Spanish Civil War? It's interesting too that the Irish in Britain (first generation and others) never used their political clout to further the Irish cause, as the Irish in the US did? English Catholics kept a very low profile through the Irish independence movement right up to the Troubles. I guess that were terrified as been thought of as "disloyal". Would be great if you interview Mick Lynch - what a great PM he would make.
