Thank you so much for your video. I could have not done it without your video & another. Thanks for the link in the description to how to take the electrical connection off. I would have never figured that out without that video. Your socket size did not seem to work for me, it seemed too small. I don't know, maybe I pulled the wrong socket out. I did find that Harbor Freights 1/2" 27mm deep wall socket for $4.99 was nice and snug, it worked perfectly. Thanks again.

Solved! My main problem was actually the CDI! The stator coils were not the problem. (Like the video says the coils making contact with fly wheel was a problem that was ruining the coils and the fly wheel slowly. So grinding down the metal ends of the coils didn't harm spark but did prevent contact with the fly wheel.) I replaced the stator coils and the primary coil trying to solve this problem. The CDI was the problem. so it would provide spark that was weak for about 15 minutes and then it would loose spark. I've heard this isn't common. Usually a cdi works or it dosen't. So a temperamental cdi supposedly isn't common. Mine seemed to work better when it was cold outside but not at all when temperatures were warmer than freezing. I ordered 3 cdi boxes from ebay and one of them worked. One was the same age as the one I had and it seemed to have the same problem as mine. The second was an aftermarket cdi and it didn't work at all. The third was off a sled that was nearly 20 years newer but used the same part number for the cdi. The third worked perfectly. Now I have strong consistent spark. I'm pretty sure the reason the cdi went bad in the first place was because I had a short in the wiring of the handle bars somewhere and so I bypassed all that wiring but didn't realize I was also by passing the Voltage regulator as well and running the sled with out a voltage regulator damaged the cdi. Now I have a newer cdi that works and wired in the voltage regulator back into the circuit so far everything is now working well again. I love this sled. So fun! The Low profile let's me drift around corners of packed down snow. 😂

You have a fuel system or electrical problem here on the top end. Those were good motors. My Dad bought us a Sportcraft 19ft Caprice new that had a 4 cylinder '72 Merc 800 (80hp) and was underpowered, I say it's a good motor as when the boat was loaded it was capable of only 32mph on a good day. It was run hard just to scoot along and that motor never died. When my Dad gave it to me i traded the 80 in for the tower of power Merc 90hp 6 cylinder and I would've gotten the 115 but the 90 was a leftover and over $1000 cheaper than the 115 I wanted. It was still underpowered but the torque difference was unbelievable in comparison. It hit only 34mph but it didn't struggle to get the loaded down boat on a plane. My next boat was a '17 Cobia that when I bought it had a 115 Evinrude and to say the least, flew in comparison, mid 40's+ and it didn't have the screaming race sound I loved about the Merc 90. Truth be told the V-4 115 Evinrude didn't have the torque of the 90 Merc, but my girl at the time said the Evinrude sounded much "nicer and easier on the ears" and cruised faster than the '19 Sportcraft with the 90 Merc running wide open and anywhere else over its power band. Mercury outboards always ruled in my opinion, I say this as I had a friend with a '19 Sportcraft identical to mine with a 115hp Evinrude and my 90 was stronger out of the hole and running wide open he was barely pulling away, the Merc was rated 90hp at the prop while the Evinrude was rated 115hp at the crank. While I had no complaints with my Evinrude 115 on my '17 cobia, it clearly didn't have the stones my 90 Merc tower of power had. Mercury owned OMC for decades. Sorry this is a long winded post but I'm just giving my opinion as I agree your 50hp Mercury is a good motor and that any Mercury rated tech could address your WOT issue.

Apparently some vehicles have the filter and some don't. I'm not sure which will have it and which won't but mine had a filter underneath the oil sender/sensor. Once the sensor is removed you can stick your finger in the hole the sensor came out of and you can feel the plastic tips of the filter if you have one. Perhaps try using a mirror and a flash light and look down the hole the sensor came out of and then you should be able to see if you have a filter or not.

You don't have to unhook the full line. The pcv valve tube only. I changed mine in my 2010 gmc sierra 5.3 in 30 mins. You can also use just a 6 inch extender
