Dubai is at best a city-state at the crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe, at worst a joke as an hybrid of everything but without a soul. To me it is more a new Indian state than an Arab city, and it has been internationalised beyond recognition. Personally, I would love to visit the other lesser-known and less visited emirates like Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah. In my humble opinion, if you want a more Islamic experience you should visit neighboring Oman, Qatar (?) and states in the periphery of the Ummah like Malaysia (ex. Kuala Terenganu) and Indonesia. Regarding the skyscrapers in the desert, they are only BS... Imagine the amount of water that just gets wasted in keeping the facades clean and shining. Obviously, with pagan Indian workforce and to please Western eyes...
