    How old do you process your meat chicken

  • @averagejeffhomesteader
    @averagejeffhomesteader Жыл бұрын

    Ideally 8-10 weeks. I have gone longer but meat gets tuff. Pressure cooking fixes that. Instant pot fixes that or if u have an older layer. Sometimes life gets in your way and things get delayed. On a side note they keep growing and u end up with more meat. Processing birds is an long day if done alone.

    The reason there are arrows to line up the tub when snapping it to the motor portion is because it has a magnetic switch on it. This allows the motor to run ONLY if the drum is setting correctly in place. You can see the wires to the switch which comes out of the control box. The cord has a G.F.C.I. end on it. I joined a CSA for the summer and I'm going to have vegetables and fruit coming out of my ears! Hey I just finished your video and this is just a suggestion for you I’d have your gauge checked because it looks like you’ve got a 15 pound weight on your canner not sure about that but anyway it should not rock like that at 10 pounds of pressure it shouldn’t rock at all it should just occasionally do a little bit of spewing out so your gauge might be off if you have a county extension office nearby they’ll test it for you hope that helps. Thanks for the video

    @@averagejeffhomesteader before you do, if your at sea level and recipe requires 10 pounds you can always use a weight and the proper jiggle is about 4 gentle jiggles per minute. That way your not over cooking or loosing too much water with excess steam. Hope that helps!

  • @averagejeffhomesteader
    @averagejeffhomesteader2 жыл бұрын

    The gauge is brand new. I dislike the weight only method. Some like it.

  • @oldtimerlee8820
    @oldtimerlee88202 жыл бұрын

    Donna, that was my thought, as well. The gauge is 6 lbs off. When canning at 10 lbs, it takes 11 lbs of pressure to move the regulator. When canning at 15 lbs, it takes 16 lbs. Your pressure canner looks very much like mine that was made in 1972. Mine is a Presto. Presto makes an adjustable regulator. It can be set for 5 lbs, 10 lbs or 15 lbs of pressure. Not only does it regulate the pressure, it also will show exactly how much your pressure gauge is off. When I'm canning at 10 lbs my dial registers almost 12 lbs. (Off almost a 1 lb.) Personally, I would have the gauge checked and/or go ahead and replace it. Or, purchase an adjustable regulator. When, at sea level, canning at 15 lb (16lbs) the food is being overcooked. The temperature inside the canner is higher, than if 15 lbs were being used at the altitude that requires 15 lbs to achieve proper temperature. BTW, after using an adjustable pressure regulator with a dial, I'm comfortable using the regulator without a dial. (Bought a 2nd canner without one.)

    I replace the potatoes with green beans to lower the carbs. Thanks for the recipe. Try 1 bay leaf, Thyme and rosemary with beef broth. Totally yummy! Also if you put your jars in the oven at 220 for 20 minutes your jars are sanitized as boiling point is 212 and 220 gives you alittle wiggle room for oven fluctuations.

  • @oldtimerlee8820
    @oldtimerlee88202 жыл бұрын

    It is not necessary to sanitize jars when the processing time is 10 minutes or more for waterbath. It is not necessary with pressure canning. The process of canning itself, sterilizes the jars and the contents in the jars, at the same time. Last I heard, guidelines for 5 minute water bath processing is being evaluated to change those to 10 minutes, as well. Canning jar manufacturers do not recommend putting their jars in the oven. The glass is not tempered for dry heat, as is glassware designed to be used in ovens. Don't take my word for it. Please research it for yourself.

    I have used this plucker a few times. Now if you get one and it stops working if a bird gets stuck and the motor shuts down and will not turn back on remember there is a reset button near the on and off switch. This is a default thing to keep the motor from not burning up and become junk.

  • @averagejeffhomesteader

    No I just live with it. Unfortunately it is a result of the drum easy to remove design. It simply rest on the bottom plate with no seal. If it had a seal it would just west out and need replaced or leak.
