Hi Keith! Just got finished adding a DRO (ToAuto) to my Lathe and used this video to perform the X and Y Linear Comp. Wow! Worked Great! I even double checked it using the math formula and the values were nearly dead nuts on! And to the question I asked a yr ago (@lyndone.2682), thanks for the reply. All is well!

I can get the measurement perfectly calibrated but then when i move to a different place on the table its off by several thousands again. Any sources of this changing error?

Hi Keith Like all your videos very informative. Have a question I hope you can help me with. My DRO on my lathe has the tones or beeps as I press the buttons. HOW do I turn the beeps ON ???? It’s a SINO. But might be the same on other models, Any help would be greatly appreciated. Instructions are no help and neither is Hare and Forbes in Australia where I purchased the lathe from. I did see a video on Utube a long time ago on how to do it but at my age forgot, should have wrote it down. Regards Greg

Morning Keith, I have the exact DRO. I’m not able to access the calculator function in lathe-2. It seems to work if I’m in mill-2 or 3. Am I missing something here? Thanks, Gary. Oh’ and thank you very much for the videos. Awesome.

Sorry but what is this to do with a ToAuto dro display?it's nothing like my ToAuto 3 axis display ( mine is an LCD touch display) I assume that it's totally different to earlier ones as you have the Kexin name on the front.

Thank you for that. I've managed to get mine set up for a job with a large chunk of cast iron and I've just almost finished the initial drilling of four 6 mm holes, and I'm currently going through up the sizes to 25 mm then boring to 35 mm using this positioning system. Now I know how to set it up it's easy. I have a later ToAuto touch screen unit which is rather different looking but the set up is the same. Bloody introduction manual is totally fucking useless!

Revisited your video and found out I was entering too small a ratio, .001 instead of .25 or .5. When I entered larger compensation numbers than I started to move towards the figure I needed. Thanks again, as I mentioned mine is a Tpactools model but the similarities between the two are close just names. I would have never gotten this.

  • @williamchristensen960

Keith, I watched your videos. I was especially excited when I watched the easy “no math” one. However, mine is a Tpactools model and while the face and button location looks similar. This method did not seem to work. Might have been error on my part. I’ve been going back and forth with the seller and he’s trying to help but….. I’m almost sorry I began the calibration process. My mill is a round ram M head with new screws, nuts and gibs. As I mentioned my error factor has only gotten higher. I’ve tried imputing negative numbers to bring it closer to value of three inches but now I’m up to 3.008. Tried putting 0.000 to reset. Didn’t work. As others have said the manual is useless. Any advice or help you can offer would be appreciated. Regards Bill

Thank you so much for helping us folks who have gone for a Chinese DRO. Mine is dead nuts on now. I was doubting my scale installation straightness, my parallel used as a gauge block, heck I even doubted my cat when she went 'meow'. You have saved me a whole lot of fiddling and wasted time. Thanks very much! May the swarf be with you.

Thank you so much for this. My DRO Y axis read 2.772” for an actual 3”. The manual that came with my DRO was no help, for a different model and quite incomplete. I had been trying to follow the instructions for several days, getting no where. Thanks to you it’s 3.000 now

My ToAuto unit is very new and doesn't appear to follow hardly any of the steps you provide in your Lin-Comp videos. I suspect the manufacturer made some Firmware changes/improvements. That said, your Lin-Comp Video's have been helpful in that it helped me put the math in the proper context and I've been able to GET IT DONE !! Now, it's DEAD NUTS on the money!

  • @frankish5314

Yup my brand new ToAuto follows none of the previous menus.. not even the book they supplied me. Thankfully I was able to stumble on how to set my X axis on diameter mode, but that all I've been able to do.

Hello Keith, Great Video! I have the ToAuto unit as well and am attempting this procedure. However, your steps vs. what I see deviate from the initial point where you press X then the MM button. On my unit, instead of displaying the "S" value, the display indicates "0.000" and the mode display indicates "COMPEN_X". In other words, it doesn't follow your video at all. Any idea? My unit is brand new, just installed... different Firmware? (the user guide is a total Joke!) I'll look at your other video's on Lin-Comp and see what I can do. TIA

  • @breadsplit1649

Follow the video, and when "COMPEN_X" appears instead of "S", that is the same, type your compensation value and hit Ent. Then repeat the whole process until it shows the desired value ...

The reason the "reversed" direction works is that the positive and negative movement is supposed to be from the "point of view of the tool" not the direction of table movement. When you set the DRO to what you are calling "reversed" it is actually the correct setting.

im new to machining but ive worked out the feed rate for my carbide end mill.. its 260mm per min.. how the fuck do i actually put that into practice when using it on that my machine (same as mine) mines in imperial as well but i do have a variable speed powerfeed

  • @keithtrusso66
    @keithtrusso662 жыл бұрын

Well, if you have the mm per min, then divide that by 60 (sec), that will give you mm per sec. Don't exceed that. So in your example it would be 4 mm a sec feed rate. You wont find that on a speed dial, but you can swag a position of the dial. Start slow ...
