    There is d/d applied to soft slings in Australia. The compressed sling diameter needs to be 3 times the diameter of the shackle

    how many degree kink or dog leg? shall be remove from service

  • @columbusmckinnon
    @columbusmckinnon4 ай бұрын

    Thanks for the question. From our training team - "Any kink in the wire rope requires that rope to be removed. There is no allowable measurable amount that can be acceptable. All kinks regardless of how small are dangerous & can lead to catastrophic failure. This is why they need to be removed from service. The best advice I can offer is take care of the rope & use it safely to make sure that you don’t kink it."

    That's pretty cool. I had watched some pretty good operators before I ever had to use a crane, and they sure made it look easy. I've worked with a lot of folks who have a hard time doing manual sway control, so when I as the new guy could place things faster and more precisely they were not happy.

    No tag lines installed by the crew which was a major no no. The footing (dunnage) wasnt secured which caused the load to slide and slip out. The strap was questionable but i feel it broke when the load was dropped causing more weight to be put on one side vs the other. Probably overloaded its capacity. Lastly them straps were on a bar with nothing preventing them from coming off. Why didnt they use a secure lifting lug with a shackle?

    if the load is stationary and it was pushed for any reason would the crane drive to counteract it?

    Our sway control is preventative, which means it predicts the pendulum swing based on the hook height, and then controls the speed of the motor to prevent sway from occurring. It won't dynamically eliminate existing sway.

    may be I can ask another question related to soft slings and shackle interface. This is related to D/d ratio for soft sling dia (D)and shackle bow or pin size (d). Generally the soft sling dia is very high as compared to wire rope slings. For example if we are using a 20t soft slings, and 20t WLL shackle, The soft sling dia will be in the range of 100-125mm depending on supplier and shackle bow/pin dia will be in range of 50mm In such scenario it is very difficult to maintain the D/d ratio . For wire rope slings the code gives clear guidelines for derating the capacity, however for soft slings it is not clear. Is it possible for you to shade some more light on this. ? 😊

    My training would suggest that no more than 1 sling should be attached to to hook at one time. Was the absence of a shackle on the hook intentional?
