    @@hnrwagner if it's equal pulling force applied on both ends, where the boundary conditions are fixed and if specimen dimension are uniform. It should fail at mid length or almost near to mid length right ?? Else if the force applied is non uniform, where the force is higher it will break near to that support. Am i right or wrong

    Its a dynamic explicit simulation, there are many simulation and also meshing parameters which also influence the results, in theory it should break in the mid section

    slide @ time 2.11 shows stress = 273MPa on graph but in damage computation you use stress = 237MPa ? Is it a typing mistake or is there another reason

    Very informative, I am trying to do a low velocity impact analysis on a composite plate but for some reason my jobs abort whenever I select the hashin criterion in the field output. I also select the previous damage criterion in the field output but after my job run it does not show any results for those variable. No Idea why this is the case..

    Dear Dr. Wagner, Could you please verify the obtained buckling stress for the same problem with any source (experimental or any formula from the literature)? I have tried to verify with formulas from the literature, but the answers are in the range of 13 to 14 kPa, where as your answer is 20.5 kPa.

    @@hnrwagner Thanks for your feedback. The comparison you made at 19:40 is very interesting. Please let me adopt it for more discussion. Since the elastic formula you used at 18.42 is based on the elastic material property, and usually small strains and perfect shell, it should be compared with the case of LBA. Suppose that I do not have Abaqus, how I can estimate the buckling pressure? I will just use the elastic formula (to get the 0.0138 MPa) and multiply it by the KDF (say 0.9). So, the question is how the elastic formula is greatly varying from the LBA (0.0138 vs 0.0203)? I have used different formulas for comparison including the exact solution and they mostly in the range of 0.013 to 0.014 MPa. This made me in a doubt about the accuracy of Abaqus in this kind of problems. How do you comment on that? I have another question but that is related to the article you adopted, their values are overestimated by 10 times. For example, the results of the elastic formula they presented in Table 6 of the paper is 138.2 kPa (or 0.138 MPa), which is ten times the value you presented (and yours is correct).

    @@hnrwagner Thanks for the double check. Actually, your numerical solution seems perfect. I have solved several problems independently and I always find the LBA about 42% of the analytical one. It seems like it is an issue with Abaqus. I will try to see if I can simulate it in another FEM software. If I am able to reach to a solid conclusion, I will share it with you.

    It's that you divide the boundary conditions into a lot of disp-bc-1,2,3...each disp-bc only limits one degree of freedom, why not limit all the degrees of freedom in one disp-bc?

    Great video Prof. I have a doubt. I am modelling a material which is linear-elastic, perfectly plastic and undergoes instantaneous damage. But the problem is the material undergoes larger values of elastic strains, almost till a strain of 150%, it remains in elastic region. So can this code be used for the doing the same? (I have to use ductile damage model)

If I want to use different types of meshes to compute a model through the subroutine, where should I declare the mesh type. Is the interface of this subroutine itself limited to the type of mesh?

    Thank you very much for the helpful video! I had some problems after following the presented procedure but was able to solve them. These tips might be helpful to some of you as well: 1. Make sure you have also installed the SIMULIA Established Products CAA API for the Abaqus (including the hot fix) version you have 2. If you are seeing the Abaqus solver abort immediately with some user subroutines, you will also need to add the following line to the abaqus_v6.env file: link_sl='LINK /NODEFAULTLIB:LIBCMT.LIB /dll /def:%E /out:%U %F %A %L %B'
